Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

LemonJelly, Your pictures are really very good, are you a keen photographer?

I do love photography but I am no expert by any means, I just point and click. It isn't difficult to take great pics with scenery like that Smile . Thank you all for the comments though.

LemonJelly, No it's not hard to take good pictures with scenery like that but I think that you are being a little bit modest as you have composed( is that the correct term?) the pictures with alot of thought.

LemonJelly, I have to ask - your user name Puzzled sorry Embarassed

Chris Brookes, Chris, sorry I hadn't looked at yours, which I should have seeing as I'm thinking of going to the Jungfrau region. They are all spectacular and I am yearning to see it all for myself. snowHead

IncogSkiSno, and what exactly are you trying to say??? Wink The name is taken from a music group called "Lemonjelly", I guess the genre of music would be chill-out music. I was listening to it one day when I was picking my xbox live gamertag and I guess it's stuck with me ever since.

You can call me Dave though if you want Very Happy .

Well as I predicted the rail link to Lauterbrunnen will be open less than 2 weeks after the damage was done, it will in fact open again from Friday 2nd September, as will the line up to the Schynige Platte from Wilderswil, the repairs to the main road and the rail ling to Grindelwald from Zweilutschinen will take quite a while yet I think, it will from Friday be the only non opperating line in the area

They've done such a nice job with their new web site that I thought I'd add a quick link to my favorite hotel in Wengen, the Hotel Alpenrose

IncogSkiSno, no but I do know the family well and I get a very good deal on my room, how else could I afford to go there for so many weeks wink , the younger daughter is in several of the pictures and she let me know yesterday that they'd just redone the website.

As I've said before it's a very nice hotel to stay in, the lounge areas were redone last summer and they've just refurbished the dinning room this summer, prior to that they refurbished virtually all of the bedrooms at an average cost per room that would make your eyes water, all the bedrooms are pretty similar with handcarved wooden furmiture, telephone, tv (with remote), plus a minimum of chair or two and a table or desk for writing postcards etc, the larger rooms have slightly more furniture but all are spacious (except mine),almost all of the rooms have ensuite facilities though not all of them have a bath some just have a shower, the best views are those from the south, or if you are rich the south east corner, the access road in the picture only leads to the hotel so it's very quiet, in the winter they don't have the tables outside the front of the hotel but all of the balconies have chairs and a table on which is nice at the end of the ski day as you can watch the sun sink behind the ridge of mountains in front of you. The rooms at the back of the hotel are on average £8 pp/pn cheaper but don't have a good view or balcony to sit on.

Chris Brookes, it's about an easy 5 minutes downhill from the train station or an extra couple of minutes to the Mannlichen cable car station, add perhaps 3 minutes for walking uphill as it's quite steep. Easy in walking shoes but not so comfortable in ski boots, fortunately for those of us who ski or walk back to the hotel in ski boots you can get a lift up the hill in the morning in the little 4x4 or the electric buggy

I was talking to a friend last night, he's just back from a paragliding trip to the area. He's impressed with the view of Murren from the air, as it perches on the edge of the cliff.

Chris Brookes, don't even think it, temps are still forecast up to +15C at Kl Scheidegg during the next 5 days, any snow that falls at this time of year soon vanishes, realistically snow won't stay until the end of October

Brian T, good question. I along with the FIS will be praying for good snow as the Lauberhorn race is on during the weekend of the 15th of Jan,I'll be in the Alpenrose from the 9th to the 16th of Jan.

The Alpenrose web site was updated at lunchtime on the 4th of September, Fiona sent me an email to ask me what I thought of it.

I often go 2nd week in Jan...and have yet to have a problem regarding snow. I've never not been able to ski to Wengen or Brandegg. Once or twice Grund has been an issue. It's usually better a bit later in the season, but is always skiable (although I didn't go in jan 2 years ago, but my friends who did said it rained all week Crying or Very sad )
