Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I stayed in Hotel les touristes years ago , it was OK but the walls are paper thin which was fine until half way through our trip when a group of Norwegians arrived and came back at about 3 am with a couple of English chalet girls whose exit in the morning was rather more subdued than their activities through the night.

@Mosha Marc, cheers, let me know what the A Larze is like then please Smile Do you hire a guide at all when you are out?

Will do.

On most of my previous trips I've either been with the Warren Smith lot or with my kids doing the similar stuff we did with Wozza. However I have used Gilbert Crettaz, he's a lovely bloke who seems to know his stuff

@kitenski If you're on a tight budget, had you considered staying down in the Rhone valley and then driving up to some of the resorts? There's the Valais Magic Pass that gives you access to over 30 resorts (but not Verbier 4 Vallées). Somewhere like Martigny or Sion will have cheaper accommodation compared to a ski resort. Of course, you'd need a car (well, it's easier with a car, although plenty of locals use train/bus). And obviously you lose time to/from every day, but gain in terms of skiing multiple areas. Rather depends what you want. One upside of staying in the valley is you can do a thermal spa thing like the Bains de Saillon if the weather up the mountain is hopeless. And if you've got anyone in the group who wants to take a break they can hop on the train to Lausanne, Montreux and/or a boat trip etc. day out.

@LaForet, thanks for that. I'm not on a particular budget conscious trip, but also don't need/want 5* luxury!

It's always worth taking a look at the Swiss National Tourist site at www.myswitzerland.com - they have quite a well-structured set of pages and usually various offers of one sort or another.

Heading over to verbier tomorrow, just wondering what the snow cover is like after what looks like some hot temps over the last week. Has the warmer weather made it dangerous for slides in the afternoons like I’ve seen every year in Val D?

@T1mbro, got back from there on Monday , snow cover very good all over , had three fantastic days exploring all four valleys , off piste variable to say the least , north facing higher slopes still in good Nic , even with warm weather the snow didn't seem to soften up till after 2pm in the sunnier aspects, snow only really deteriorated in afternoon on the home runs , some stuff defo closed due to avi risk , but loads of fun to still be had on the itineraries that are open . and some new snow due soon I think

Anyone in the area at the moment for latest snow/condition on and off piste.
I booked from 10/3/ next week, 3 days short ski break but I'm thinking of cancel it,
Forecast still show mild temperature rain.?

@toro, my daughter is there at the moment.

Reports lovely piste conditions, off piste has been affected by the warm weather...lots of slides on the southerly aspects that always slide late season.
Good chalky stuff to be had up higher and oblique to the sun.
100% coverage on piste and everything open.

Forecast has quite a lot of snowy days, but not huge quantities, for the next week.

Unless you are a pure powder-hound (in which case you will still find some if you are willing to hike) why would you cancel?

in verbier now, snow is good but the weather is inclement at best. Total white-out today, couldn't see your hand in front of your face stuff.

Can anyone recommend any really good runs or best places to hide away from bad weather as we're on a non-flexible pass so gotta make the most of it !

@j4ck100, forecast looks good for tomorrow but in bad weather head over to the Bruson trees. Or just follow 8yo Mika under the Mont Gélé Gazex Shocked

I got back late last night; great few days, Tuesday in particular was surprisingly good and we found nice new snow all over the place. I'd say that at the moment the off piste above 2000m is still holding up well. Apparently there's more snow due in next week too.

Oh, and kitenski the A Larze is a fantastic place. New, clean, bright, stylish and some of the friendliest owners/staff I've ever come across.

@kitenski, I promise you, she will love it.

We ate at the Couloir Bar twice (Wednesday is beer and burger night for 15 chuffs) and enjoyed the laidback vibe and chatting with the locals at the bar. We also tried the Cantaloupe which is a good Greek place - a bit smarter and, we found later, owned by the same lady who has the Couloir.

We also went up on the gondola for beer and food one night, then caught the bus back down later. It's really easy.

Pelting down all day and all evening. Entire Verbier sector was shut by 1400 because of wind. Only the third time that’s happened to me in 15 years here.

I guess things will be understandably slow to open up tomorrow, especially up high, but in the meantime there will be plenty to play with lower down, especially with a brand new pair of JJs.

Been snowing heavily since lunchtime. Mont Fort sector shut all day and the strengthening wind shut the Savoleyres bubble this afternoon.
