Poster: A snowHead
|
I am looking into taking a year out after completing my A levels to persue an on snow instructors qualification abroad. I'm booking onto a club instructors course taking place in a few weeks for my drysloping but I also want to go to the snow at some point to improve my all mountain technique whilst hopefully achieving a recognised qualification. I'd appreciate any recommendations for gap year courses etc

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

do a search on the forum of www.natives.co.uk and you'll find a lot of discussion on this
one thing to bear in mind, you can get your qualifications without doing a full gap year course and it'll probably cost quite a lot less doing it that way. it will, however, require you to sort out your own accommodation etc etc

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

easiski, only the "official" ones, if you look at the ad's in the BASI mag' you see some others. I don't think either of the ones I mentioned are on the BASI site. They do say you can contact the office though who'll presumably have details of others.

New Generation Ski School are running GAP courses in Courchevel and Meribel. New Gen are a BASI training centre so you train for 10 weeks with actual BASI instructors. Worth a look. http://www.skinewgen.com

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Yep. If you're interested in not following the BASI route, a realistic alternative is to go the CSIA (Canadian) route.
The link above is nonstopski - great people that run it, but if you fancy going to Whistler to do your course, I can thoroughly reccomend Dempsy Tours.

I have just come back from training for my NZSIA stage 2 & my girlfreind was doing her stage 1 with the Rookie academy based @ Treble cone NZ. They are by far the best in NZ, I can not fault their teaching at all which is proved in their pass rate, 91% passed their stage 1 and the 9% who didn't pass were told not to take it as they wouldn't pass.
The housing was fantastic, Wanaka is a brilliant place, it's just a wicked course, Oh and you get to go Heli-Skiing whih was amazing.
The benifit of doing it in NZ is you can head over after your exams, get your cert and then they will help you find a job for the winter. We are heading to Keystone in the states.

Dean & Garret are the guys that run it.
