What are the reds like? Are they relatively easy or are they more difficult reds? Or just standard.
Hoping to go mid March.
Is it a nice resort, never been before. Not been skiing for years but usually go to scheffau or courchevel, but saving money this time as the others are expensive lol.
Thanks

@Skioilers, the reds cover all of the spectrum from the blue / red end of the scale piste 23 to the black / red end of the scale piste 24 all of course depending on the conditions. The reds in Auffach (free ski bus) are more in the middle of the scale and Alpbach is accessible via Auffach making a reasonably large area although not on the scale of Skiwelt etc. Mid March the snow will likely be soft particularly on the valley runs in the afternoon but should be good in the mornings.
The village itself is a small, quiet typically Austrian village more like Scheffau than Courchevel. The main (loud) Apres bars are not opening this year but there are a couple of other bars open so there is ample opportunity to socialise if that is your thing.

Other than the answer I have just given what specifically do you want to know?

About 20cm of new snow overnight and so far no sign of letting up. So far the lifts are shown as going to open but it does look like it could be quite stormy so may have stoppages during the day.

|
|
|
After a bright morning yesterday it clouded over and then fresh snow fell overnight which has continued this morning. As the wind has also picked up this has meant only the lower (surface) lifts are open. Hence a morning for practicing technique in poor light, low / murky visibility with a layer of powder on the pistes. Forecast for the next few days is looking good

@EggRider, that sounds a bit like the weather for us last week when the owner lifts ended up being the only ones open. But then the end of the week, Thursday and Friday, in contrast were so good.
At least we got to the end of the week, and in our case three weeks as we came from Hinterthal, in one piece and feeling in good health.
Unfortunately as we drove home Saturday and Sunday we both started to feel sore throats and colds coming on. Tested when we got back and found we were +ve and one of the other couples we were with have also tested positive. Not sure where we caught it as mask wearing really was tightly adhered to, hey ho, at least it didn’t happen till we had travelled. The other four flew.

Today was bright and sunny which resulted in a mass exodus to Auffach and Alpbach - I went to Alpbach but got back mid-afternoon and found that the Niederau slopes were in great condition as although the morning corduroy had gone, the pistes had not mogulled or ridged up and once the shadows lengthened they also firmed up making for the sort of very fast conditions you usually only get early on a cold morning. It was clear that very few skiers (or boarders) had stayed local.

Chris hi,
I understand that you are an instructor. My 5yr old and I would both be interested in joining group lessons starting Sunday 20th, in children and adult groups respectively.
Do you have any availability?
Tony

@tonyfo, Hi Tony, I only work for the ski school and don't have anything to do with bookings . If you call Theresa on 004353392200 she will be able to take your booking, alternatively you could arrange lessons through Crystal. I don't think there are any cost benefits either way. There will be availability for group lessons for both of you.

Be nice to see you guys again, it's feeling like we are getting back to 'normal' this year. I had to sign a paper that said I would comply with Covid regs when I got my Liftpass. They gave me another sheet detailing that there are no Covid regulations!

Had a morning at Auffach today, a little chilly at -14. Mixed man-made and natural snow giving good skiing conditions. Not a great deal open yet, I suspect they are keeping a lot closed until the weekend to allow more snow making. We are starting lessons this weekend at Auffach as Niederau isn't opening until 23rd.

@Beans, sorry hadn't seen this, too busy at work aside is very busy at the moment. The pistes are holding up OK but many of the links between the s.opes in the valley are missing. Snow conditions vary day to day, yesterday morning was very good and quiet (transfer day) but today was very icy on the runs to the valley and the blues in the valley, much the same as everywhere else at the moment. There have been some bad accidents in Tirol with icy slopes but fortunately none that I am aware of locally.

@Cymro66, only about 15 cm on top at Niederau but it was windy so not all of it stuck, pistes are fine but areas where they haven't got artificial base are scoured in places. In the valley all pistes are open apart from Tennladen T bar but most of the links are not there yet. Making snow in places tonight and temperatures are still dropping so expect more snowmaking to start soon. More snow is forecast in a couple of days and we don't really need much more to get the links between the valley pistes open.
@BRi87, Widersberghorn has good cover now according people I have spoken to today.
We have a FIS masters race on Schatzberg (Auffach) this weekend.

@Beans, The only lifts in Niederau that are closed are the Tbar at Tennladen and the beginner rope tow near the gondola, the drag near the gondola is open. There has still not been much snow in the valley which means some of the links between pistes are missing but the pistes are fine as they have artificial base. It hasn't been anywhere near cold enough to make snow for quite a while now. Now the good news, snow is forecast over the next couple of days and the temperatures are set to plummet so bring your thermals.

We have had reasonable snowfall over the last 24 hours, hopefully enough to open all of the links. Pistes today had a little fresh on top this morning which was fine on the mountain but polished to marble in the valley in the afternoon. They will be much better tomorrow when the groomers have been at them. Off piste still limited in Niederau but should be fine at Auffach and Alpbach.
