Poster: A snowHead
|
Hello all
I am trying to go over to Sainte Foy (near Bourg st Maurice I believe) around the 12th of January and need some help!
I have been looking around the internet what feels like non stop for ages now and I cannot find how to get from Geneva to Bourg! One forum post I read said you can get a train for about £38 euros but the post was over a year old and it didnt say details about where the train goes, only that you need to change about 4 times!
Apparently there are around 4 buses a day but also I havent been able to find times let alone prices!!
Does anyone know any train details or bus times for around midday?
I'm travelling by myself and every transfer seems to be for 6 people or more.
Many thanks for any suggestions
Emma xx

emmalou, welcome to snowheads. I expect someone will be along soon with more local knowledge. However, there are lots of buses between Geneva and Bourg St Maurice, because BSM is "en route" for so many resorts. There are more buses on Saturdays than on weekdays, but that's not a busy time, so you shouldn't have a big problem. There's a desk in Geneva airport where you can buy bus tickets. They're not exactly cheap, though. And St Foy is quite a way up from Bourg. Even with one of you, hiring a car might not be an entirely mad idea, especially if your time is limited and waiting around for bus connections might waste too much of it.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Welcome to emmalou,
All of the above with the Chambery suggestion giving you some good options as the train will take you there (BSM) quite easily...and then cab, maybe
However, you could see who is on your plane to GVA and what TO's they are using to where...and then bung the rep some cash to jump on the bus...if you are likely to use it both ways, this will be the cheapest option...
Getting to BSM should be easy...and then you just have to get up the hill to St Foy

if you don't have heaps of baggage, you might find you could hitch up the hill to St Foy. I give people lifts on those roads, not infrequently. Would depend on the time of day, of course, and the weather!

Check www.sncf.co.uk.
And if I'm around I might be able to give you a lift up from Bourg for a bit of petrol money.

I'd go for the bus (http://www.alpski-bus.com/). I'm a keen train traveller, but the trip from Geneva to Moutiers (which is on the same line as BSM, I think) is rather peculiar so the bus makes much more sense.

emmalou have a look at this website. It might help: http://www.raileurope.co.uk/.
Like Hoppo I luv trains and Geneva to BSM is via Chambery, but can take a while. I agree with others that bus might be best, unless your flight connects with the 1016 from Geneva which gets into BSM at 1355! It is relatively cheap tho' in comparison with a taxi!
