Poster: A snowHead

northantsred, i also thought about going for 2 weeks for an extra £800 but its the price of lift prices ,lessons etc that made it expensive.
I'm planning on getting away without the kids for a week next year again and I am thinking of either booking a weeks course with warren smith for example or doing the first stage of BASI.
I've always wanted to do BASI although I wont be packing work in to use it for 16 years or so but I thought it would help me with the kids for the next couple of years and get me out of my bad habits

you aren't buying wholesale from companies who supply your programme of 50 chalets and half a dozen hotels

They don't always seem to do that. I have often seen a pile of Crystal reps struggling round the big supermarket in Albertville with their trollies laden. I'm sure everybody above is right; it all comes down to your chalet staff. Mostly we've been lucky, with staff making a good effort, working hard, and providing value for money. My son cooked from early March this year in a super expensive chalet in Val D'Isere, which had been having lots of complaints about food, and everything else, in a group of super expensive chalets. He got back last week and said every group of guests he'd had had said the food was the best they had ever had in a chalet (and they included some people for whom money is no object, not the likes of me who get an extra child and ski hire and insurance free for booking at the Ski Show). He said he found staff fed up and demoralised by poor management and by having too few staff, they could never catch up with themselves. I suspect he threw his weight round a bit and threatened to go home again unless he was able to do a really good job. Persuaded the girls that if they got themselves up the stairs with the food with a bit more willingness, and a bit more of a smile, everyone would enjoy themselves better. And they did. Got some record tips, too. I suspect that whether you are in the most expensive chalets (how does £40,000 for a week, for ten bedrooms, accommodation only sound?) or the cheapest, it still comes down to the guys doing the work. And whoever said they'd be jaded at the end of the season was no doubt quite correct - make an effort, get to know them, do what you can to make their job easier, don't treat them like servants, etc etc. I think catered chalet holidays with good friends can make for one of the best kinds of holidays. Just hope none of your fellow guests are internet gambling millionaires; my son reckons they are the worst. Not likely to be found with First Choice, I suppose.

I have no idea why a company the size of TUI does that. Bloody ridiculous and bordering dangerous when they do it late season with meats and dairy.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Lizzard, they are often in Champion in Briancon, and certainly when we were staying in a Crystal chalet in La Ros, the reps from ValD came over with the shopping that they had picked up in Bourg. Meat was delivered by the butcher though.

They might stop it next season as they've just merged with First Choice, who already have contracts with suppliers.

Yes, it does seem daft, and not at all efficient. The kids have big lists, and trollies full of things like toilet rolls and kitchen rolls. The kind of menus they are using presumably use the same items all the time and it should be possible to organise it all better.

Lizzard, oh bum. thanks for the confirmation, but it really annoys me as I will never use first choice again, and as I mentioned relally enjoyed my crystal holiday so bang goes another tour op.
Has this been in SnowNews?

nbt, you could always look at it from the other point of view and assume that it will be better because it's all now Crystal.
From an employee point of view I'd work for First Choice again but I wouldn't touch TUI with a bargepole.

That would be nice - we could stop having to time our trips to Casino in Bourg so as not to run into them or find the shelves empty after they have left!
