Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hatched a cunning plan this morning, after I saw the weather was not too bad, well at least so I thought.

Rather than battle with the holiday hordes up at the Lautaret as today and tomorrow are public holidays in France; so many have taken the whole week off or are making an extended long weekend of it.

I decided to drive up the trail in front of where we live as I know it's open to the snow-line as I've been running up there, and with yesterday's snow I could see that there was a lovely white blanket above circa 2,100.

And at first I was most optimistic as I started skinning on lovely fresh snow as the trail suddenly changed aspect after where I had parked at 1,950m, for sure it was heavy but that was to be expected at that altitude and I planned to climb to one of the highest points of the resort and N facing.

After circa 250m of climbing it became obvious, apart from loads of snow, that it was very very heavy, and where I was heading was steep and I could see numerous slides already, plus I felt totally fecked skinning in the heavy snow.

I persevered for another 250m but if anything conditions were getting worse with the sun warming things up very quickly, and then the viz went very flat, with another 150m to go as I called it a day

So the pics might look lovely and yes would have been superb, if only the snow was not stupidly heavy, twas overall a big disappointment Sad

But at least Mutley enjoyed himself terrorising the marmots Laughing

For those that know Serre Che that's the Eychauda drag, and I skinned up there about 1/3rd of the way.

A friend climbed up the Breithorn today in 1m of fresh. Apparently was all they could do due to weather. Snow wind affected so very heavy but lots of it. Unfortunately the Furi exit for the Schwartzor and Klein Matterhorn glacier runs doesn’t have enough snow Sad

Ridiculous amounts of snow up there. This was at 2200m today

Alas the solar radiation is transforming the snow fast so we backed off a Bec mission today after seeing the state of the slopes on the lower ridge

Have a plan to go higher tomorrow for one last mission…
