Happy New Year everyone....
On the same Subject, I'm going to be driving from Hook of Holland to Alleghe for the Pre Birthday.
So if anyone has any red hot recommendations somewhere not far from the Autobahns around Wurzburg.
Similarly Somewhere after Rossenheim towards the Brenner, or even somewhere on the Italien side of Brenner.
I get pretty tired of driving after 3 hours so 6 will be pushing it for me these days.
We don't need any nightlife on the way down so a comfy B&B where we can safely park the car.
I think the main priority is just somewhere villagy rather than a city, so we can offand on the Autobahn quickly.
I'm looking forward to the trek, but I'll be looking forward to arriving somewhere before too long.
I don't think Germany has places like Formula1 or similar.
It might be a case of "Metzgerie mit Zimmer".

@DrLawn, HNY .
Well, La Vielle Ferme was a quirky place. Old building with rather soul-less concrete motel style rooms, overlooking Saone just outside Macon. Room was warm enough with the exception of the loo which felt like an outdoor netty. Not damp or mouldy but condensation on walls . Food in restaurant was very trad French and very good. They're closing now for their winter break until end of January. Possibly not a place for a winter stopover but very convenient for A6. https://www.hotel-restaurant-lavieilleferme.com/
EDIt- there is a large Tesla charging station here for those of you with electric vehicles.

@DrLawn, Have stopped twice at the Akzent Hotel Krone in Helmstadt, close to Wurzburg. Would definitely recommend based on our experience. Booked through booking.com.

Now on our way home. Our old dog was quite ill during our trip so we took a lsst minute decision to make an extra stop. We booked Hotel Escatel on the edge of Macon having being reassured that they had ground floor rooms and lifts. Dog has been very wobbly on her feet and may needed carried up. She's a German Shepherd so not small. They failed to mention that access after hours was via a night door with a flight of slippy concrete steps. Dinner was a pretty dreadful buffet but breakfast was decent. Rooms very small.

Just arrived for our summer trip to Serre Chevalier. We took 2 nights to travel down as we aren't in a rush to get on the slopes.
Night 1 in Hotel de Champagne in Epernay. Great location in a quiet street just off the roundabout at the bottom of Avenue de Champagne. Nice comfortable rooms, and a great breakfast. Epernay is not the most convenient for an overnight stop though it is a nice one, and it isn't difficult to get back out of town and back to the A26.
Night 2 in Hostellerie St Vincent in Nuits-St-George. Just next door to Ibis. Short walk into town with plenty of restaurants, cafés and bars for food. Cheap eats to gourmand. You can get a menu du jour for less than 20€ at the Café du Centre. Hotel used to have a restaurant, but this is currently closed. Hotel has been refurbished quite a lot since we stayed last time. Rooms are spacious with excellent shower and separate loo. Wifi is poor though that could just have been our room location, and we had a disappointing view of the car park when there are vineyards all around the hotel, but we spent most of our time there out in the village. The noisy air-conditioning won't be a problem in winter. Breakfast was a bit of a scrum but I think we timed it badly, so get there early and you won't have to queue with your breakfast tray.
