Hi Snowheads.
I need some help, for various reasons we've booked (and cancelled) 2 trips this season already and not managed to get away.
Family members have been sick and we've cancelled and deffered holidays.
The stars have aligned and we have a slim chance to go on 4th April for a week.
It will be a Sat- Sat self drive DIY as usual, looking at a Friday tunnel and stay half way.
Family of 4. 2 adults and a 13 and 10y old who are competent red slope ESF silver star etc.
Sunweb are holding £2.5k of our cash currently so would like to use that if possible. Otherwise we are heading to Gerlos in March 2027!
We've looked and options are , Tignes, Three Valleys, Val Cenis, La Rosiere.
Tignes- accomodation is looking like Tignes 1800. Is this too far out of way?
3 Vallees looking at Les Menuires
Val Cenis been there 2 years ago and enjoyed but a little small
La Rosiere - never been, plenty of options, what's it like?
Advice and options please?
Open to curve balls and other options and resorts. It's 3 days away, what would you do?
Feel like this holiday was never meant to happen and this is the last chance to get on snow this season.
Many thanks.

I’ll start this off and see what other comments come in. Have stayed in 1800 a few times at this time of year and should be fine. Yes it’ll mean taking a little longer to get up/back compared to le lac but only talking about 15 minutes each way.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

We are just back from Tignes 1800 and I really enjoyed it. We were at Kalinda which is decent accommodation. The snow was excellent everywhere including down to Les Brevieres and further snow has fallen this week.
However we were skiing as a couple so did not have any ski school restrictions and could ski round the whole Tignes Val D’Isere area.
I personally prefer it to the three valleys.
One trip to Val Cenis was enough for me.
I really like La Rosiere and it would also be a good option as it has some high slopes and is linked to north facing La Thuile. We have skied it before in the second week of April.
Let me know if you need further info on Tignes 1800

Not ruled out Paradiski. However we've been to la plagne 3 times and fancy a change.
What's 1800 like in the evening? Plenty of places to eat and drink?
I guess we can always take the shuttle to le lac for the evening.
Looking at the bus timetable there are not many buses in the evening

Still skiing winter like powder to below Tignes 1800 yesterday. One bubble and you are above Lac - there's a selection of routes home including a blue. There's a good bus service to Lac in the evening if you want some more lively action.
Bit of a shortage of loo roll in Plagne 1800. UCPA gave over 100 teens D&V after one meal. At one stage they had 3 doctors and 20 firefighters there doing first aid!

I love Tignes but I would choose Les Menuires from that list. If you're not yet happy on blacks the route back to 1800 from the Toviere/Val d'Isere side can feel convoluted and the 3V is a truly incredible ski area

@Boarderfarce,
Seems like a great last minute plan!
I've just sent you a message about a possible option for Val Thorens.

1800 is quiet in the evenings. There is a restaurant and a bar or two. All the main residences have pools, spa etc. However there are regular bus services all evening to Lac and Les Brevieres. We had a nice meal at L’Armailly in Les Brevvs one evening and there are other restaurants there like La Bouida. We also had our car so drove to Val D’Isere one day after skiing which is only a short drive. There is a bus from 1800 to Val at the beginning and end of the day and we spoke to a few people who had got it back from skiing each day. There is also a more regular ski bus back from le lac. There is no need to ski a black to get back. You can download on the Toviere gondola and ski to the chaudanne lift or take Henri or the cut through from Le Borsat to Val claret up tichot and grattalu and then either down to lac and to the chaudane or up to l’aiguille percee and down blues/reds. On a couple of occasions during our week it was a windy whiteout and the only visibility was in the sector above 1800 and on the tree lined runs down to Les brevieres!

@Bergmeister, Thank you, sorry, I did not see your message until I already booked. I'll bear it in mind for next year!
Thanks all, pleased to report we booked Tignes 1800 this afternoon, staying at Résidence Lodges des Neiges. More than we wanted to pay but we've had a tough few months so think we deserve it!
Today has been a mad rush of organising the car, putting on roof box, digging out the chains etc.
Booking Ski Hire, hotels for half way stay there and back.
For those intested in booking the day before like us, a few tips.
1. Accomodation in resort still plentyful however no last minute bargins so to speak of. Holiday is costing us much more than the holiday we booked way in advance last November but had to cancel.
2. Accomodation for half way overnight stays very limited.
3. Cost of the tunnel very expensive, only credible option was flexiplus.

Set off this morning just after 5am. Should get to the tunnel around 7:30.
Not been to Tignes since 2009. Bet alot has changed in 17 years!
What are the must do runs?
Family like crusie blues and fast open red runs.
We will head over val d for a day or 2 and head to the folie for a bit of entertainment and to reminice

You call this very last minute?! At midday today, I booked a flight to Innsbruck departing at 6am tomorrow.
Five hours later and I'm only a little closer to knowing where I'm going. But I have at least packed my case and board bag.
Still, it's a bit easier when you're travelling alone. Hope your journey is going well and safely

@Boarderfarce, Hope you have a great week in Tignes 1800. I imagine your family will like the long red and blues down from the Grande Motte in Tignes.
The descent from L’Aigulle Percee to Tignes Les brevieres is also enjoyable. Didn’t have our adult kids with us to do a reccy on the black so we did the red/blue options.
In Val D’Isere there are too many good runs to mention and it does rather depend on time of day and snow conditions as to which runs will be best. Definitely worth having lunch at La Folie Douce self service at least once.

@snowymum, thanks looking forward to getting out on the snow tomorrow.
Hardly any traffic on the way in from Dijon today.
Met up with some friends in Dijon who were overnighting on the way to val cenis. Had good food a few beers and a 30 min walk back to hotel which meant a good night sleep all round.
Arrived in tignes at 3pm after a stop at supermarchie BSM and filling up with diesel.
Lift passes and skis all collected.
Kids and a play in the snow while we unpacked. Quick swim, pizzas cooked and we are ready for the slopes tomorrow
