Be warned! We’ve just come off the M20 to go to Folkestone services, but they’ve closed the slip road to get back on going south. Sending you back north for 5 miles to return south again. 10 mile diversion for a quick fuel stop!

We're off. Hardly the relaxed start we had anticipated with our First Class tickets. I'm currently sat on the floor of the First Class carriage as they have only put five carriages on this train between Bristol and London, so all seat reservations are cancelled. It's usually an eight carriage train.
I've squeezed into the space behind a wheelchair (with the chaps permission). Rest of the family are in the vestibule.
Duck family are already en France. Think their scheduled 0626 Le Shuttle left a bit late, but they were certainly on their way by 0700.

From the outside eurotunnel looks jammed and m20 closed judging by the jam on the a20 and puppets trying to get into eurotunnel by the staff entrance

Oh Lord - what a lot of woe! My son and family are living in Lyon and on their way north by train with two small kids - I hope to pick them up at the local station late afternoon. My daughter in law spent a lot of her life including all her secondary school years in France so is bilingual and very good at navigating French trains so hopefully they'll make it.

@Owlette, that’s annoying to say the least!
We made it down London with LNER without a hitch, spent an eye watering amount on a sausage roll at St Pancras, now awaiting the food / drinks service as we whizz along on the Eurostar. Very civilised!

We're on the Eurostar, currently in the Tunnel. Swiftly throufh security. As ever no seats until the earlier train began to board. On time departure. Unbelievably, I've already had to ask the guy across from me to put in his earbuds as he felt it was necessary for us all to hear the videos he was watching. He looked genuinely surprised that it was an issue.

The toilets in carriage 8 are truly horrifying. And I've used a loo that was essentially a shower drain, in Santorini. Save yourself!

Talking of loos:
We've just had a lovely 2 week trip in India.
Every loo we used there was perfectly OK (times have changed), all seats, with paper and shower head things for those that prefer those.
Soap in the sinks, all clean.
Service stations on the highways, grages when refueling
..all loos were as described
A 20p equivalent tip to the loo keeper ensures it is all kept nice.
France:
Squatters and seatless.
Really not clean.
No soap in the integrated all in one soap/water/dryer sinks.
In fact...rather the inverse of what you might expect

I didn’t think they were that bad but then my bar is low thanks to festival portaloos!
Nice to meet you @Owlette, so random that we were three seats away
We’re fed and watered, ready for part two from the Gare de Lyon tomorrow

We took the Portsmouth to st malo ferry thursday night rather than the portsmouth to caen ferry last year. Much longer and better sleep for the journey today as its just me who drives.
Made it to chambery ready for a much shorter drive to val thorens early tomorrow.
Bit hectic around Lyon and also the interchange before chambery but probably only 30 minutes at most of delays.
No issues with getting petrol other than massive queues at total energies as I think people are queuing for cheap prices but readily available.

Lovely to meet you, too! Small world that we were so close to each other. I saw you get down your skis and thought 'if he lifts a board bag down now...'.
I went right as we were arriving into GdL. There was a dog pee mat smushed on the floor next to the toilet and the seat was covered in wee. I'm not usually too much of a princess, but there are some rotten folk out there.
Lad2 and I had dinner, then a lovely bumble along the Seine to Notre Dame, and finished with gelatos sculpted to look like roses. He's now fast asleep. I'm just waiting on Mr. O and Lad1 to get back from the football (0-0) and then I'll be early to bed myself ready for leg 2.

I'm up. Fair play to the Ibis Styles Bastille, who when I said that breakfast would be too late for me (0630 start), offered to provide a small early breakfast of pastries. Sat here now with them and a cup of tea.
My alarm was set for 0535, but I was wide awake at 5 (excitement/anxiety about missing my train) so I rolled with it and got up.

Morning @Boris.
Train from GdL left on time and I am now hurtling through French countryside. Full carriage and not a peep to be heard from anyone. It is lovely.
Have been in contact with Family Duck. They arrived in Lyon midafternoon yesterday and have had a lovely long rest. They plan to leave the hotel at 9am, hit the Super U in BSM at around 1130, then be up at 1800 between 1230 and 1. I'm aiming to ski straight to the hotel to dump my backpack, so all being well, we should be there at similar times. Rest of Family Owl are still snoozing back in Paris.

We made the 9:45 train from the Gare de Lyon, almost made the mistake of boarding the Chambery section (I think it splits there and our section continues towards Milan?)… Double checked that we’re on the right one for Modane and all is good!
