I'm trying to sort out long weekend/4 days skiing for a group of 7 old friends. All have been good skiers at some point, some still keen and all have got a bit curmudgeonly so getting a few demands.
Thinking about Flachau. Looking for a reasonably nice good value hotel that will do single rooms and a 4 night booking. Sauna would be good. Fairly central location to restaurants/bars with bus stop outside to whatever the main lift access is, don't do walking in boots so a good ski shop at base of lift with ski/boot deposit included as well. B&B preferred as like to sample local restaurants but good HB considered.
Only know what I've read on here so all advice welcome. Many thanks.

Try Bergdiamant, about 70 yards from the Achterjet which has ski deposit
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I'd look at the Montanara, a little more expensive than the Bergdiamant but worth the extra. Your dates will determine availability of single rooms. Most have Austrian doubles so you may struggle without a supplement. There are ski shops with lockers at the bottom of each uplift.More central to village restaurants would be Hotels Centrale or Alpenhof. Do not be tempted by "The Place" unless you like Russian, drug dealer kitsch. If you want B&B there are multiple guest house options but you'd find it difficult to get 7 single rooms. Most of the hotels will give you a B&B option.

@RedandWhiteFlachau,
Thanks for this, I googled before I posted and if I'd had no advice I'd probably have gone for Stangl ok reviews and like the name. What puts Sport2000 over them? Thanks.

Next question ...
Good restaurants for the evening, nice if they also had a decent cellar of Austrian wines to try. Group of seven so want to try and book a week or so ahead. Central Flachau great but don't mind a taxi ride if need be. Thanks again for any advice.
Cheers

@MajorMarmaduke, how much do you want to spend? upmarket Seven, Gluckskind. Schusterhausl for steak. Alma Soul Food is new and getting great reviews for for gastronomy. Dorfalm is also good. Dampfkessel, when the Apres dies down a bit, is good food. Schützenhof just outside Flachau in Reitdorf gets good reviews, we haven't been yet but plan to. You'll find good Austrian wines at all of them.
Some might recommend Hoagascht but I'm not keen.
Where did you end up booking?
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

@MajorMarmaduke, We quite like the Hoagascht (probably the better wine list) and have yet to try the "new" Alma Soul Food" but their taster option comes highly recommended. We also like the Holzwurm for the best Kalb Schnitzel. We ate at the Sattlebauer last night and then took a Rodel down. Some of the group had their Ribs, which if you choose to try them, don't have lunch! They also have a fantastic Honig Schnapps. The ride down was entertaining.
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Yes, Forgot about Zum Holzwurm - need to go back. Sattlebauer also good

Hi, another ask of those in the know in Flachau. The very best restaurant up the mountain for a good leisurely lunch. Preferably a bit of a ski away from Flachau but straight forward return. Many thanks.

@MajorMarmaduke, hiw far us 'abit if a ski'? Auhofalm half way down the flying mozart is excellent. Winklalm at Flachauwinkl via the Panoramabahn, Kreistenalm alpendorf way, burgstallhutte on the home run down to the Highport lift base station, return on the bus or shuttle across to Flachauwinkl for the panoramabahn back to Flachau

@MajorMarmaduke, If the weather's good then you can't beat the Wagrainerhaus. probably the easiest ski back home. All of @holidayloverxx, suggestions are good too.

Thanks @RedandWhiteFlachau, and @holidayloverxx, for the advice on Flachau thus far, it has been very helpful.
We head out next Thursday and have three days skiing. I'm deducing from the webcams/forecast that it will likely be a bit scratchy on the snow front but most pistes open. Fair comment?
That in mind, are there any suggestions for particular areas for each day, circuits and for where the snow might be holding up best? Generally the group don't approve of too much busing about and we won't have cars. Mixed group, some stopping starting needed to meet for lunch etc. Most can be persuaded to ski down most stuff as needed. Thanks in advance.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.
@MajorMarmaduke, we were there last week, first time in Ski Amade and staying in Bischofshofen with a car. Started a few day sin St Johann/Alpendorf and also a day in Schladming, a day from Maria Alm for Konigstour and Saturday morning Grossarl/Dorfgastein. All great.
A suggestion for you. Do one day heading towards Alpendorf - you should be able to cover most of the Wagrain/Alpendorf area, one day across to Flachauwinkl and Zauchensee (you have to get the bus across the motorway but it is entirely painless). Once your legs are tuned in you could join the whole lot up and do the 12 peaks tour for day 3.
We found aspect was pretty important, as far as possible ski the sunny slopes first thing before they get too soft. Try to stay high and avoid coming below the G-link station either side or down to Flachau as much as you can.
@MajorMarmaduke, Pistes are great until Midday. Soft after that. What I deduce from your posts, is nothing too taxing for a mixed ability/enthusiasm group. So, looking at the weather forecast, Friday is likely to be a lower visibility day. My suggested itinerary is:
Friday - Ski from Flachau to Kleinarl, easy slopes, better visibility and trees. Coffee stop at the Lumberjack https://www.lumberjack.at/en/. Skip skiing to the bottom and come back up the Lumberjack lift. Ski down the Flachauwinkel side to the Winklalm for lunch. https://www.winklalm.at/ If things get too soft to return via the Panorama link or your post lunch legs are not up to it, you can downlift from there to Flachauwinkel and hop on the bus back to Flachau.
Saturday - Ski from Flachau via Flachauwinkel to Zauchensee (or take the bus up the valley to Flachauwinkel if you don't want the extra milage). Run down to Flachauwinkel will be great early doors. Highliner to Zauchensee. Ski down skiers right (Blue run)to the arena and up the far side to the Rauchkopfhütte. Good for coffee depending on timings. https://www.rauchkopfhuette.at/. Ski back down to the Arena and then take the gondola to the top of the Gamskogel. Ski skiers right first back down to the Arena and come up the gondola again. Ski the world cup run and across to the silver gondola to take you back up to the top on the Flachauwinkel side.
My top recommendation is then to ski down to the Burgstallhütte for a long lunch https://burgstallhuette.com/. If the weather is good this is an outstanding spot but you MUST book a table on the tearrce in advance if the sun's out. Aim for 13.00. Short ski down to Flachauwinkel and you'll probably take the bus back.
Sunday - Head to Wagrain/Alpendorf. Take the G-Link and keep going. Don't bother going below mid-station above Alpendorf. On the return I'd cross the G-Link before lunch. Lunch choices, the Auhofalm https://www.auhofalm.at/ as recommended by @holidayloverxx, (Top level is table service) or Wagrainerhaus https://www.almstadl.at/. The Wagrainerhaus has the easiest return to Flachau via the Kogelalmbahn.
Saturday/Sunday are interchangeable, but no visit to Flachau is complete without experiencing the Lisa Alm anytime after 2pm. https://www.lisa-alm.at/. Just be aware that the ski down to the valley post Apres and on soft snow can be a bit challenging. At the very least the less able should be able to negotiate Blue "L" to the top of either Space Jet 1 or Star Jet 1 they can download on the chairs.
For valley based Apres I assess that the Dampfkessel will be more to your liking than the other options. https://www.dampfkessel.at/
If all that sound a bit complicated, I don't normally teach Fri/Sat so if you want a guide my rates are discounted for Snowheads.

@DJL, @RedandWhiteFlachau, @Frosty the Snowman, thanks for all input.
Missed a vital bit of info ... Our Social Secretary has booked Burgstallhütte for the Friday. So will switch suggested days around.
@RedandWhiteFlachau, - Flachauwinkel to Zauchensee. There seems to be a road between the valleys if you're skiing there is it just a walk across or bus from bottom of F-winkel.
Thanks for guiding offer - we're just too flaky as a group to engage I'm afraid.

@MajorMarmaduke, What @holidayloverxx, said. It is a different bus to go straight back to Flachau. The postbus stop is next to the little umbrella bar and not in front of the lift.

@RedandWhiteFlachau, that's at the Zauch side. He's asking about FW where both buses use the same stop.
@MajorMarmaduke, the postbus serves both FW and Zauch. On the way there it stops at High Port...Zauch...then terminates at FW. Reverse to go back to Flachau

@RedandWhiteFlachau, ah, I see

You know it makes sense.
Now I'm confused on buses ....
My need will be to get between Shutteberg and Highliner 1 lifts as I see it on the map in both directions and, as we don't believe God gave us ski-boots just to walk in them, get a bus.
Let's forget the bus back to Flachau from F-W and assume we want to ski in both directions. Is there a separate loopy bus running between the bottom of the two lifts? Where do I catch it and how is it identified?
Oh and am I correct that if we want to do something like the suggested itinerary over the weekend the best value pass is 3 days Ski Amade?
Thanks as always for advice.

A free bus, it shuttles back and forth.
Don't worry, not much walking and it's free. You can't miss it. There are signs and it stops right outside the lifts.
Here it is from Highport to the Sunshine Shuttle lift
@MajorMarmaduke, the loop runs from the doors to enter the lift station at highport lift station which contains the highliner 1 gondola, which is the first lift up towards Zauch, it connects with the highliner 2 chairlift which takes you to the top, from where you ski down into the Zauch arena. There is only one bus stop at FW, at the bottom of the Sunshine shuttle lift, which is the only lift there and takes you up that side. You can't get lost
To be aware the highport side, which is the entry point to Zauch is technically still FW. Each mountain in the area has one side of it in one area and the other side in a different area. E.g. flachau on the flachau village side and Wagrain on the other side (Flying mozart side), Flachauwinkl on the sunshine shuttle side, Kleinarl on the Lumberjack chair side
