Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Airlines and Montreal Convention 1999

The airlines have a thoroughly miserable approach to the Montreal Convention 1999. This convention basically covers compensation for airlines and their agents c0ck ups.
In Jan 2025 Air France left my bag and skis at Charles de Gaulle airport, and they arrived at Tokyo, Haneda on the next flight 12 hours later. The AF Haneda agent couldn't tell me that at the time, so I continued my journey to Aomori, N Honshu.
Equipment rental/replacement wasn't an option in the timescale - the nearest ski shop with telemarker gear was in Niseko, Hokkaido. Black Cat baggage transfer looked like taking 3 days, again wrong timescale for skiing.
The only option was fly back to Haneda and recover my stuff and back to Aomori in a morning. A £400 or so round trip.
When I claimed a refund I got the usual rental/essential replacements blah, blah, blah - possibly from an AI chat bot - over several emails to and fro seeking a refund.
Eventually after a "double envelope" hard copy letter to the CEO, it was acknowledged that MC99 applied and that passengers are entitled to reasonable expenses to recover stuff. I was fully refunded.
In Jan 2026 deja vu. BA left my skis at LHR. This time the HND agent was more on the ball and told me they would arrive the next day. We again got into the Black Cat 3 days+, due to heavy snow, delivery options etc and I was facing another whizz back from Aomori to retrieve. Luckily as BA and JAL code share, JAL agreed to fly the skis to Aomori, so just an airport taxi ride to retrieve.
I submitted a claim of £40 to BA, pointing out MC99 compensation and the AF 25 saga. And I got back exactly the same rental/essential purchases blah, blah, blah from a named customer service person, but possibly an AI chat bot, over several emails back and forth.
It was only after I accused the customer service/AI chatbot of incompetence and not understanding MC99 and suggesting a court action, that BA relented and confirmed a refund.
Phew. The airlines are b*ggers and no doubt the fat cats at the top enjoy they're undeserved bonuses built on the incompetence of their underlings - whether human or AI.
Interestingly, an Aomori Haneda round trip this year is only £170.

It’s not the “incompetence of their underlinings”. After all, they’re responsible for the competency of their underlinings!

It’s by design to be difficult. They are hoping most customers give up, and they don’t have to pay.
