Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Just read the report and notice someone rescued from a lake in Tignes, Tremplin area. Where is this in Tignes.
We were on the Mereles lift yesterday and saw someone recovering a glove in an off piste area and was very close to a flat area which we assumed is a snow covered lake

Not clear if this was the slide that killed the 2 skiers in Vallee Perdue but I'm pretty sure that this video is from that location? I skied through there (with gear) a few time pre Christmas.

I suspect it is a mis-translation, that doesn't appear to be the name of any sector in Tignes.

which Google translates as

quite where exactly that is I'm not sure - but I wonder if it means the Bun-J ride, which is indeed near Merles. (and yes that flat area is a lake)

Currently in Andorra and avalanche warning was 4 today, which is quite rare in my experience. Oh and EES in Barcelona ws very straightforward.

@Tubaski, @MogulMonkey, tremplin refers to the summer jumps (ski, tubes, whatever) that folk use to jump into the lake and are at Le Lac end of the lake (no where near Merles) easily visible from the Toviere bubble.

I think its likely there is a very dangerous snow structure out there now, that will need another 1m snowfall to make safe. The reason is because the prolonged dry period and thin snow pack has turned most of the existing snow pack into a weak layer of depth hoar. This is a persistent weak layer that doesnt go away. Only thing that makes it safe is enough good quality snow to cover if and bridge it. The recent 1m unfortunately seems like not enough

@MogulMonkey
Here between the Tufs fingers and Tovière bubble - he finished up on the edge of the frozen lake, not in it.

A photo from a roof at 1500m at Grand Bornand today that perfectly illustrates the current snow situation - fresh snow on a hard base, with a bit of sun on it....

And yet people had still skied near-vertical couloirs like this - tracks were clearly visible at the top... Confused
