Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Eh oh! Eh oh! ️ #OrangeVigilance | Metéo-France puts the department of Savoy on orange alert for a snow-ice phenomenon this Thursday, January 8, 2026, starting at 6am

According to forecasts, a drizzle will allow moderate snow accumulations in the pre-alpines, but cold air will be more persistent in the valleys of the Maurienne and Tarentaise. Accumulations of the order of 5 to 20 cm in these valleys are expected between 400 and 1000 meters high and 20 to 40 cm beyond.

This snowy episode could make travel conditions difficult across the road network. As a reminder, since November 1, all drivers driving in Savoy are obliged to equip their vehicles with winter tires or to have chains or snow socks.

Eh oh! Vanina Nicoli, mayor of the Savoie, invites users, especially motorists, to double vigilance and inform themselves about traffic and weather conditions before going on the road.

Eh oh! If you must hit the road, ride equipped with: winter tires, chains or snow socks. If you don't have this gear, don't take the road.
Eh oh! If you have to chain, install in the designated areas to not disturb traffic.
Eh oh! Reduce your speed and increase safety distances.
Eh oh! Make the road-clearance engines pass easier, don't duplicate them.

With fresh snow accumulations expected over the next few days, the snow coat will be fragile across several massifs across the department, with an increased risk of avalanche as of Friday, January 9, 2026. For the safety of users and first responders, it is essential to consult with trail rescuers and mountain professionals before embarking on a route off the safe trails and equip yourself with essential equipment (avalanche detector, probe and shovel).

Lost in translation!! Laughing

I assume that means don't overtake them, not fit a snow shovel to your Renault Kangoo in an attempt to outdo them!! snowHead

Eh oh! ️#Vigilance | Savoy is currently experiencing a snowfall episode that is making traffic conditions difficult, particularly for access to the ski resorts. This weekend, nearly 160,000 vehicles are expected in the Tarentaise and Maurienne areas.

If you are heading to a ski resort:
Eh oh! Only take the road if your vehicle is properly equipped
Eh oh! Reduce your speed and increase safety distances.
Eh oh! Facilitate the passage of snowplows and never overtake them.
Eh oh! In case of chaining, use exclusively the designated areas for this purpose, so as not to disrupt traffic.

ℹ️ Heavy goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes
With degraded traffic conditions, particularly marked during the night from Friday to Saturday and heavy traffic toward the ski resorts, the Prefect of Savoy and the President of the Departmental Council prohibit the circulation of heavy goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes in the Maurienne and Tarentaise valleys from Friday, January 9 at 10 PM to Saturday, January 10 at

They're obviously anticipating difficult conditions - prohibiting all good vehicles over 7.5 tonnes.

all the rat runs off the main roads into the Tarentaise will be closed to visitors too, no doubt. But it's not a very busy Saturday, so hopefully things will keep moving.
