Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

You've got the Sauze/Sansicario/Sestriere half, and you've got the Montgenevre/Claviere half. Sansicario's the most central of the villages, but the best spot would be in Sestriere near the Fraiteve gondola.

we've stayed at the Uappala in Sestriere a couple of times. its good value but defo not luxurious - a pair of the big ugly fiat towers, but it is almost ski in ski out (bar the icy steps and crossing the road!) close to the Fraitieve gondola, so convenient

people say Sauze has a bit more apres life, although Sest isnt too bad for that either.

If you wanted to eliminate the terminal bore of crossing from S/S/S side to Mg/C side and back then actually basing yourself in Cesana would be the answer and then either going upto Sansicario and beyond or heading towards MontG a couple of days would work.

The downside would be having to drive or bus to the gondola / chair both ends of the day and it may be quite quiet of an evening there, being a small "normal" town vs a ski town/resort. Makes the transfer from Turin airport a bit shorter also as saves a drive up the hill to Sauze or Sest.

There was talk of a ski pass discount if you arrive with a train ticket to Oulx as an incentive to use lowcarbon travel. found a link

Does anyone know, if you have a mont de la luna skipass in montgenevre there is two days of sestriere included. Can we just go by car to cesana and there enter the lifts with our skipass? Or do we need to get another skipass at the skipass office?

Its automatically on your card so just pitch up to Cesana and off you go. Doing it that way also saves the boring long & cold chairs transfers across the valley.

yes did that and worked perfectly. Even went up to Sansicario to park so we didn't need to take the gondola down

Sauze does have a decent bit of nightlife plus it's the cheapest, went last year and stayed at a budget hotel near the Clotes lift - but it is the far end of the area and Sestriere had the best snow.

I guess now Bardoneccia is also on the lift pass "bonus days" then Sauze is the handiest for that either by car or the buses mentioned up thread.

Sauze fans might find Episode 294 of The Ski Podcast of interest - I was joined by James and Sinead from SauzeOnline. They talk about the area and how they ended up there.

Stopping in Montgenevre from 8th for a week and I see the pass has a day in Serre Chevalier. Does anybody know if there's a service bus from Mongenevre to Briancon?

Isnt it BArdoneccia that got added in this year, not S.C? see upthread re dedicated buses from Sauze. Also train from Oulx goes to Bardo.

Not sure about Bardoneccia but from Montgenevre that will be too long a haul, that's why I was interested in Serre Chevalier

Ah I was thinking Italian side of the Via Lattia - they include Bardo as an extension, the french side pass includes SC, which makes sense. There will be a bus - google maps is your friend

Briançon bus line 5 takes you from Montgenèvre to a stop 300m away from the Prorel Gondola (Sainte Catherine) from where you access all of Serre Chevalier. It's quite easy.

How are conditions looking? Heading out this weekend and getting a bit nervous with the warm weather we've had and the lack of new snow in the foreseeable forecast.

Also interested to hear how conditions are. Not arriving until the 13th of this month but if conditions are bad we may go elsewhere.

Also interested to hear, albeit I am headed that kind of area 28th so a lot longer away. I bet it will be fun anyway, spring skiing on a very deep base.
