Hi - looking Looking for advice. In Japan next week (19th+) and have bookings in Hakuba valley for 5 days before heading off elsewhere in Japan for non-ski part of the trip……recent warm weather looks to have washed out the lower slopes in Hakuba valley so wondering if anyone with experience would advise switching to Niseko? Whilst the trip isn’t 100% ski-focused it’s our first visit to Japan and wanted at least the chance of some decent skiing. We could just do some spring-skiing on the upper Hakuba slopes or cut losses and get the bullet train to the northern island?

I'd go to Hokkaido, the snow will be much better this time of year. We went to Furano at christmas, they'd had more snow than Niskeo at the time. Is a smaller resort, but quieter and more Japanese than Niseko. If you want to check it out then fly from Tokyo Haneda to Asahikawa, and then get the lavender bus. I would stay in the Kitanomine zone.

I have a similar trip starting tomorrow.
5 days at the Sumo tournament in Osaka and then skiing. I've been looking at Shiga Kogen because it is quite high and also Hokkaido. I plan on making a very late decision based on the forecast.
The bullet train is great, go Grand Class if you can. Free bar It only goes to Hakodate though. There's loads of internal flights too.
