Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

The good thing about the bumps today was that they were frequently invisible in the flat light so it slowed a few erratic skiers down.

could the collective please give me some advice. We'll be looking to go to the dollies next season, We'll drive from Wrocław in Poland. which village would you recommend for best access round the whole area. we'll have our ski van with us so driving around isn't a problem. We do multiple Alps trips a season. Is there an early bird season pass?

There is an early bird season pass, I got mine at the start of November. Early bird price runs to Dec 24 IIRC. We always stay in Selva so I can’t comment on other places to stay.

@Baron von chippy, You refer to “we”.
There are also “family” passes which can be worthwhile depending on number of people and how long you are in the area for.

It can get quite complicated.

A family pass for myself, son and his partner gave 30 days skiing interchangeable between the three of us and was very cost effective for us.
It needs a bit of research on the website for your personal circumstances but can save money

Snow report 7.2.26
I’m in Val di Fassa waiting for my tour operator bus to take us to Verona airport.
There is lots of snow and it’s snowing outside at the moment.
The off piste seems okay with lots enjoying it in the second half of this week
It’s snowing down to resort level, and adding to the lying snow.
The side roads are white but the main road is okay, some lying snow on it but the Saturday traffic is keeping it clear.
If you are coming out to the Dolomites - enjoy your holiday

Bottom line - conditions are good and getting better

If you are talking about just the Sella Ronda area villages -- Corvara ; ronda on one side ; alta badia the other

so far in the season ... I've endured bad early/mid January trip ... witnessed with my own eyes the brown landscape ... enjoyed the scenery and skiing on mostly man made "snow" and now I might be coming back for more !?

Curse of the Dolomites !

This time my whole family would like to partake - 2 late teen girls (one skis well), spa loving wife, food loving me (I can ski).

In the past, our late March trips to La Thuile and Courmayeur did not disappoint, would Dolomites deliver better experience in late March ?

March 21-28 ?

btw ... Olympic venues look awesome - true mid winter wonderland !

Best time to ask probably around the 18th March!

Could be lucky. I presume temperatures are actually the most important thing? Or is the sun so warm it doesn't matter what the air temp is?

Posted this elsewhere….. but now adding a map. If it is of help to anyone. Colfosco/Corvara to Armentolora for Lagazuhi / Hidden Valley

Take the chair to the long nursery slope colfosco (Run 36 - warm up for the morning!) then/or straight in the bubble to corvara, up the chair, turn left at top of chair (not right - my map looks a little messy, but its at the top of chair between the chair & drag lift) & follow run under bridge (be aware the road at the end, so stop!) , follow down to Col Alto bubble.

From Col Alto bubble
Up the bubble, down to the chair (2) , down to lift 9 (run 14)… up the lift & follow run down (run 10a by las vegas) & follow to where it meets run 9a, keep an eye on the right (just after the hutt/bar) for the turn armentolora & stick to the right again by the drag.

@Cheapski, personally I’d go to La Thuile as it’s mainly north facing and known for being cold, anywhere on the Sella you will have to encounter south facing slopes and unless it stays cold until then and new snow it’s going to get very soft on the south stuff after 12 , the latest I’ve been is up to the 22nd. If you can make your decision nearer the time, sit tight and see what happens would be my advice.

I’ve never been to La Thule but I’d second the suggestion Toofy Grin
I’ve been to San Cassiano in mid-March a couple of times and the weather has been lovely but that means the snow has been very, lumpy, sticky and slow

@Cheapski, it could be great last week of March if it's cold and you get a snowfall or two, but as others have said, it could be very soft and slushy on anything South-facing. Arabba tends to hold its snow best towards the end of the season.

If you can wait until nearer the time and decide...or just be happy with whatever there is because you want to be in the Dolomites...

If not, then you're probably best heading somewhere a bit less prone to Spring thaw conditions, I would suggest one of the higher resorts in France or Austria that stay open through April.

If it must be Italy, then N-facing La Thuile or high altitude Cervinia should still offer decent slopes. There is Sulden in S Tyrol which has a long season, but it's a bit limited there.

Alternatively, after the (flattish) Costa de l'Ega quad, you can take the Campana Nera poma, then turn right with a minor yomp (or go up the magic carpet) then across to the Pralongia 1, ski down to the Pralongia 2, up then left onto 9B and cruise down to to the Piz Sorega piste, which you join just before the Armentarola turning.

We're off to the Dolomites for the first time next week, staying in Colfosco - can't wait! Any hints and tips welcome.

We also need to video my youngest for his GCSE PE - including doing 2 slaloms (preferably a relatively easy one, and a slightly harder one). Are there any in and around Colfosco/Corvara?

There's a couple in Corvara too. One is on the Col Alto (Red 4): follow the first part of Gored's directions (not mine). https://www.altabadia.org/en/poi/what-to-do-in-alta-badia/detail/poi/moviment-movie-slalom-audi-col-alto.

I imagine that would do as the "slightly harder" one, with the one in Colfosco relatively easy.

That could work out nicely - use the Colfosco one as the blue slalom, and the Corvara as the red slalom. Perfect!
