@kitenski, anywhere in the penines with something skiable I suspect nothing much, but it would be good to get helonsnow out for a first mini ski tour if its possible

@russ_e, hi Russ, Amber weather warning still stands I think and is saying this:
Rain associated with Storm Goretti will turn readily to heavy snow on Thursday evening, initially on hills and then to lower levels overnight, before easing through the course of Friday morning. Accumulations of 10-15 cm are likely fairly widely, with the potential for 20-30 cm in some locations, mainly on hills above 200 m elevation, more especially in Wales and/or the Peak District. Snow will ease through the course of Friday morning, turning more to rain or sleet at times at low levels, but disruption is likely to persist into Friday after snow stops falling. There is some uncertainty over the exact track of Storm Goretti, which will influence the locations most likely to see disruptive snow, and it is possible this warning may be updated.

We are running tomorrow but I’m afraid it is very thin and will probably get skied out fairly quickly. A day for enthusiasts and probably more of a ‘social’ day.
Season ticket holders only I’m afraid. We won’t be selling any day tickets because of the thin conditions.

@Peter S, sadly not going to make it I'm afraid. 2&1/2 hours drive each way for a couple of hours ski at most on thin cover not worth it for me. I will however be there like a shot if conditions improve. Hope to see you soon. G

Hi Whitegoldsbrother. You have the most Yad moss Milage logged up of a single day that I know of. Obviously you are match fit and eager for the next conditions to suit you proper, we can’t all be telemarking mountain men or women like Mr Peter blasting through all conditions in all seasons on the hill but we try. You try and I watch and would like to have a insight in your off season training Whitegoldsbrother if I may, that keeps you wanting to retain your magnificent long day out on Yad Moss hill last season where you recorded such a feet for the marvellous to marvel at.

@Whitegoldsbrother, lovely day weatherwise but the runs were a bit rough. Solid frozen grass and thin fast skiing. Knees are feeling it a bit now. Until next time.

That didn't materialise - yet - but they're now saying there'll be 14cm tomorrow and another 21cm on Fri/Saturday.
Here's hoping!!

Had a pleasant couple of hours at almost-deserted Weardale today:
- 12 members' names in the daylodge log book.
- Fun in the sun - lovely after what feels like weeks of grey/rainy weather in the north east.
- Very pleasant temperatures - sat outside for lunch.
- Thin cover in parts, grassy bits and all. (It doesn't take much snow for Weardale to open )
- Only F1 draglift on - not enough snow to run F2.
- Tricky refrozen/granular snow to begin with - which improved a lot as it was skied on.
- Seems very unlikely to be open tomorrow - no snow forecast overnight and more bare bits appeared throughout the day today.

Great effort. Not quite enough snow at the bottom of Yad Moss. Hoping for a bit more on Friday but temperatures look marginal.

Cheers @Bergmeister. I bet the snow was better at Weardale too!
We did have some nice fog on the way up there today

Fendrith Hill (ie Weardale summit) appears on the highly regarded Yr.no forecasting site.
Friday/Saturday may yet be a goer in the Pennines @Peter S, albeit in poor visibility.

It's been snowing since early evening at Weardale
Looks like it'll be topping things up nicely after Wednesday's skiing. They are deciding first thing in the morning whether to open for tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

Thunderbirds (plus skiers and boarders!) are go at Weardale! Live trip report
- Snowing on arrival.
- A bit murky but visibility not too bad.
- Snow better than on Wednesday - skiing quite nicely despite the grassy bits.
- Only about 9 or 10 people here.
- F1 and F2 tows running - F2 runs described as 'survival skiing.'
- Turned to drizzle by about 12.30...not sure how long the tow track and snow might last at the bottom.
- Good job the Weardale diehards are very easily pleased
(*Edit/update: Skiing closed at about 13.30, by which point it was very sticky at the bottom.)

And - sadly - forecasts now downgraded in terms of cold in the North Pennines this week... Precipitation forecast, but temperatures look very marginal (around 0C to -1C at Fendrith Hill, which is 40m above the top lift at Weardale).

Snow accumulating at Weardale today...

For those who don't mind a long day out (wellies recommended for the walk in), managed to get 200m of vertical per run on on the North East of the Cheviot yesterday. Not much of a view, but the novelty of being almost certainly the only person out ski touring in England more than made up for it. Snow was really nice in parts, and certainly no rocks to worry about!
