Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

The Northern Powderhouse: Allenheads, Raise, Weardale and Yad Moss. 2025-2026

Season tickets are now on sale at Yad Moss, Allenheads and to retuning Members at Weardale and the Lake District ski club.

Allenheads Ski Club, North Pennines http://ski-allenheads.co.uk/
Lake District Ski Club, Helvellyn Massif http://www.ldscsnowski.co.uk/
Weardale Ski Club, North Pennines http://www.skiweardale.com

Last season we skied seven days at Yad Moss including a spell over a week in January which delivered excellent conditions after a perfect north Easterly snow fall. We had over 150 skiers on the Saturday, which is about our limit without a long queue.

Season memberships at Yad Moss are still only £50, with returning members paying only £40. Junior season memberships (under 18 and accompanied by an adult) are just £10 (!).
Or you can just join as a day Member each time, for £25. This year day memberships are likely to be all on line and probably limited in number.

The four northern real snow ski clubs also offer reciprocal arrangements to season ticket members, to ski at each other’s facilities, although there are some restrictions.

Let’s hope for more good skiing again this season. snowHead

Fantastic things are afoot, Thankyou Mr Peter for posting the links and the webcams contained within the links no doubt. Another great season of cruising the Pennine beauties beckons.
Mr Whitegoldbrother is on it and that’s tremendous to see, with all the hearty mileage and feedback of the days antics last year achieving many days of unprecedented slopey Pennine mileage. It’s going to be a great season for opening up the outer reaches again of the Pennine piste maps I’m sure.

( separately. I just tried to gain membership of a club and asked not to say what gender I was born as, It then asked me, what gender I would like to be assigned to? Non binary, obvs…Ok, but you will not beable to compete in certain events! I thought why o why that I as a non binary, prefer not to say born as human beam not able to compete in all the events. I have to say, I put my false baps in and was affronted.

Up on Raise the Lake District Ski Club have now serviced and installed their Pomas ready for the season. They also used the excellent weather last Sunday to finish off some fencing and ensure their high altitude flushing toilet is ready to go !

If any SHs are heading to the Northern Snow Show at the Chill Factory on the 4th and 5th October, say hi to us at the ‘Ski Northern England’ stand https://www.northernsnowshow.com/brands/ski-northern-england

We are there to chat about the joys of real snow skiing in the Pennines and Lake District and how you can get involved snowHead snowHead snowHead

@Peter S, It would be super cool to be able to string them all together in small road trip. I've skied Raise but not the others so need to do that.

Great that @Peter S! Very Happy What a good idea to promote it in that way. I was at the show last year and enjoyed it as there was free skiing/ski tests on offer. The stalls and stands weren't very extensive though.

I don't think that was me. I did do Allenheads - Yad Moss - Harwood - old Teesdale (?) site - Weardale in a oner but it was definitely a bit longer ago than that. On twin tips with skinny skins, Fritschi touring bindings and mega flexy Scarpa Denalis, I still had a film SLR with me and it was before reliable web updates on tow operations* etc so reckon it may have been 15 yrs ago. Glorious day out with great cover. Skis off to cross the village in Allenheads, again at Killhope cross, once more on the Langdon Beck - St Johns road (walked up a bit of this as getting tired of skinning and the S facing snow was heavy in the afternoon) and then again at Daddry Shield after a run down all the way from Chapel Fell top.

Anyway, some good turns were had last season but, oh for a season like that again....

*I set off in the morning before Allenheads had started up, partly because I could get dropped off early. But i didn't realise that Yad Moss would be the only tow that I'd see running (and get to use) that day. Harwood was like the Marie Celeste (I think it was their last season - the gear was still there before moving up to Lowther Hills) and Weardale (where I was a member) had run for so many consecutive days by then there wasn't anyone available to run the tow midweek. A day or two either way I think all of them were on the go.

@skier_of_teesdale, Time flies ! What a fabulous weekend. Sunny calm and almost hot at altitude underneath the anticyclone Cool
The grass has now been ‘pisted’ on all the main runs at Yad Moss Laughing and the fence repairs are complete.
The tow has been tested and there are just a few small jobs remaining.
The Pomas will go on when we get close to running.

Snow-forecast.com usually shows only six days ahead for non-subscribers, so sure enough, the graphics for Weardale show only up to 27th October. However, the front page shows as follows Shocked

The question is, is this:
- A blip in the system/utter rubbish? Or
- Time to get the powder skis out of the loft for unprecedented 1st November turns? Very Happy

The snow is gathering on the fabled slopes of plenty and then summit the range of digging out the old piste runs that are made viable when we have a grand spread on Britains peaks .

Yes definitely maybe, Congratulations.

The first turns of lift assisted skiing deserves a medal. And I would be happy to attend the ceremony if not in a official dishing out role but a mute observer. Well played.
