Looks like the storm is continuing for the next 3 days or so. Cairngorms look to be picking up quite a lot. Hopefully it’ll lead to some open runs and lifts once the roads are open.

@Peter S, heres hoping it also tracks a bit west towards Glencoe
Webcam at Glenshee showing not much has stuck around on top. Hopefully some will have been trapped by the fences and will be ridable in the coming week.

Report from 5pm today - very limited lifts, but skiing back to the bottom, via the Home Road

Glenshee has the plastic and beginners open, as does Glencoe.
Not really enough for proper skiing, although Butcharts side looks promising at Glenshee.
Its staying cold, but both really need a fair bit more snow.

Blencoe yesterday. Not skiable downhill anywhere. Possible to get some short pitches in uphill
This Northerly flow doesn't really help much - Glenshee needs easterly ideally, Glencoe obvs needs more NE or NW, Cairngorm got a bit in this event as did lecht but it was really localised. We have about 1.5 feet at the house here in Carrbridge, the golf course is a wonderful XC ski venue, drive literally 4 minutes away and its more of a dusting. Weird.
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I was at Cairngorm yesterday. Brutal winds higher up and barely any visibility. Snow was mostly good though. Should be some good days this week.
Claybokie and the Baddoch chair open tomorrow so a nice circuit for intermediates.
You know it makes sense.
You know it makes sense.
Lecht also opening tomorrow Eagle,Grouse, kestrel, buzzard osprey and carpets.
Be aware - avalanche observations and forecasts are all very dire. Consult SAIS esp for Cairngorms and think carefully about it for the next few days esp with wind loading. End of public safety announcement.
Glenshee might get more if they can patch up a few wind scoured areas.
It’s been bitter cold, the snow is incredibly light so it’s been blown around a lot. Next few nights will see -15+ in many places. I’m at -11 now.

May head up to Glenshee tomorrow afternoon depending on what gets opened. Road open right now but snowing.

Cairngorm, Lecht and Glenshee looking pretty decent, Glencoe filling in....But as for Nevis Range? Unbelievable Jeff! After last winter's debacle, It's as though they've lost all interest in skiing...
Here's Cairngorm and Glenshee

Glenshee was rather nice today - sunshine in the morning, with some cloud in the afternoon. Sunnyside and Butcharts Access were open - snow a bit thin in places on both, but perfectly skiable. More snow would certainly be welcome !

Pics from this afternoon, heading up Butcharts Access. I arrived at 12.30 and asked for a half day pass only to be told they weren't selling half day passes, full day only. That's just gouging, so be aware.
Looks absolutely fantastic @JimboS. We're heading to France areas covered by our (mainly Switzerland) Magic Pass, until 16th Jan - but really hoping the snow lasts in Scotland for some decent skiing thereafter.
That's shocking about the half day ticket though . Totally unheard of that - so a £38 bargain for half a day. I know they need to make money when they can but, come on, that's just not right!
Then there's the £12 Glenshee ski touring ticket - no uplift included I'm assuming they must also be charging for car parking too? And surely it's time there were paid turnstiles on the toilets? Every 50p helps!
Must say, I'd never previously had Glenshee down as money grabbers, but perhaps shouldn't be surprised as it increasingly seems that "Let's screw them for absolutely every penny" is the order of the day everywhere in Rip Off Britain these days. (Don't get me started on the arrival of the £12 cafe toastie - spotted in Keswick. Thankfully, Greggs was just round the corner )
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Glenshee hasn't done 1/2 day tickets for years, think since after coving.

It's news to me @jas915 - my last few trips there have been (free) ski touring as no lifts were open.
It looks like Cairngorm have followed suit - unless you're a beginner

I didn't go back to Glenshee for years, after i got a load of abuse from the lifty for suggesting they could open more lifts. Was a beautiful sunny day, everything was pisted and half the runs were closed. Full price tickets for half the resort.

Good conditions at Cairngorm today, lovely snow top and bottom. Some stones at the mid mountain level, but otherwise nothing to complain about at all.

Lecht reported today that their tickets for tomorrow sold out in 3 minutes
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

It’s a tricky one-the whole ticket allocation and pre-sale thing was a post-Covid measure but it really helps manage loading and let’s be blunt overcrowding. The downside is you need to be organised and blunts the ‘let’s ski tomorrow’ vibe. Taking a step back, isn’t it great that so many people want to ski-I think we had about 6/700 yesterday at Glenshee. Everyone was smiling and enjoying themselves, it’s Scottish skiing, there’s some heather and it’s narrow but you know what-it’s there and working.
I think the ticket allocation thing will keep going and maybe there will be some walk ups but for now it’s what it is.
On half day tickets, it's really hard to police it for AM tockets, not sure why you can't now get PM only tickets as if you buy after say 12:30 its just a day ticket. Yesterday for example i had a couple of people who appeared trying to get on Sunnyside with a ticket from the previous day, when challenged they walked away and went back to the car park. The liftie was busy enough, i just happened to be there and checking. I appreciate it's inconvenient if you do lots of half days. I think cairngorm allows half days for beginners area but full day elsewhere no matter when you buy it. Season pass might be more attractive if you do lots of half days, dunno.
Weather today will be alright, tomorrow will most definitely not be good !
You know it makes sense.

Scotland is the only country on Earth where the roads to the snow close when it snows.
It's on safety grounds, when the roads are unsafe or impassable - which is actually the same as they do in Snowbird/Alta in Utah, with people confined to their accommodation as well!

Some kind of joke.
If only the punters had winter tyres and were equipped for such conditions ?
Here is why the Lecht road has been closed this week

Meall a Buchaille trees for the win!
Mildly adventurous day... Aborted mission on Carn Ban.
Weather rapidly turned "radge" at 900m. 50mph winds and 2m visibility. Mitten blew away (and is now likely en-route to Iceland!).
Sensibly pulled the plug and retreated back to the car. Got back down to car at 1pm.
Weather unsurprisingly seemed rather benign in the glen - seemed a s shame to end the day there.
So drove up to Glenmore and took a later afternoon lap of Meall A Buchaille.
The gladed trees were an "absolute beaut" on the up and down.
Scotland wins again....

I laugh when people suggest our issues are down to lack of winter tyre uptake. Both of my cars have them but even the 4x4 would’ve had no chance with the height of some drifts this week! That’s the issue with Scotland, there’s always some wind just around the corner.

Great photos, looking back down to the loch - looks like a great day.

I pray for those who have tickets for today
Seems road closed today! Though ironically if it wasn't for wind we wouldn't ski in Scotland (as gully lines wouldn't fill)
Milder tomorrow then winter back later in week.

A warm up and a spot of rain is no bad thing to actually settle some of that snow thats landed as with the low temps and low humidity its v light and will blow away. From models it looks like it will drop cold again with signs of a proper (possible) BoE type situation week after next which would be EPIC. Bring it on !
Do Glenshee have the capability/staff to open the entire area if the snow does come? I imagine that the team has been hollowed out by the many poor years.
Will the remote lifts still be serviceable?

I think all the areas struggle to get staff as it's so on/off and variable. Patrol will be OK as we have enough to cover, they are pretty organised and there are more people available. Lifts are all checked annually, Ops ran a few the other day as well for various reasons. So maybe is the answer !

Glencoe Mountain Update
On Friday as well as the Access Chair, Magic Carpet, Sledging Slope and Beginners Area, we plan to run the Coire Pollach Tow. It will be early season conditions and limited skiing (run is only around 400m long). Ski tickets will only be available from the ticket office.
On Saturday all going well the plan will be to open to the top. Rannoch Chair, Cliffy and the Main Basin T-bar as well as the Coire Pollach Tow. Before we can open to the top more work is required tomorrow moving snow around mid mountain to give a skiable route. Happy Valley has good cover and has been groomed. Main Basin cover is OK but requires an exit out onto Happy Valley. Mid mountain will be for access only. Lower mountain with the exception of the Coire Pollach area will be for Access only as the bottom section of all the lower mountain runs has a thin and patchy cover. Online ski tickets will go on sale for the weekend tomorrow morning.

Nice day at Glenshee today. Very light wind and good visibility most of the day. misty after 2:30. Only sunnyside and Cairnwell Tbar open above the bottom runs but the pisting has been excellent and there are some long runs available back to the plastic slope Poma and the Baddoch chair. No queues today and some good skiing. A few off piste lines available with a bit of walking

Butcharts access, Tom Dearg and possibly the Cairnwell Chair tomorrow. Limited runs but good surface conditions on the open runs.
