You’re doing a great job. Glenshee had 8 main lifts open today compared to only 2 at Cairngorm. If the wind drops tomorrow and the Cairnwell chair can run that will make a big difference to the queues. Hope the weather plays ball for you.
Whoever is coordinating the Socials at Glenshee is doing some good work

Cairngorm was excellent today - they managed to dig out the funicular and had it running from late morning. Lovely snow on all the main pistes. At the top it was so deep they’d had to cut three or four steps into the snow so you could get out of the top station and up on to the piste. I should have taken some pictures but I was having too much fun.

@orange, I appreciate all the hard work of you and your colleagues at Glenshee. I've had a week in Braemar from 21st February booked for some time, looks like I could have hit the jackpot skiing conditions wise! Watching the forecasts and Glenshee reports avidly!

Yeah you’ll hear Glade used to describe shallow gulleys and rolling land Sc ape, probably Caenlochan is the most epic example, and the finest run at Glenshee, yes better than GM.
Team have been out working most of last night, we’ve borrowed a driver from Glencoe as well so have 3 bashers working.

Personally, I am conflicted at this news...............its my favourite area to ski (I was there last time it was open !)
I get my left hip replaced tomorrow so no skiing til next season.

Hopefully they can get the ski area fully open all the way out to Glas Maol.
If they do that then the crowds will come. Glenshee deserves a good winter season - always had a soft spot!
I guess in the old days Glenshee could justify having enough staff (ski patrol, piste bashers, lifties) sitting ready to open up the whole area.
These days it needs to be more a little more opportunistic and ad-hoc depending if the snow arrives.
Heard Charlie Munro was heading east to offer support - the best piste basher driver in Scotland!
He has literally been driving piste-bashers since he was 12 year old

Good to see the Scottish centres getting some snow this year.
Was up at the Lecht yesterday and had a great day in spite of the weather, glad I gave it a go.
It was pretty quiet so got heaps of runs in but legs feeling it today.

Skiing in Andorra today - just like skiing at home in Scotland, blowing a hoolie with wet snow/rain! Snow was excellent, though poor visibility most of the day - again, just like home ……

Hadn’t realised that Glenshee had joined the winch-cat club though I did spot an anchor at the top of the Cairnwell blue racetrack and wondered what that was for. Should be useful this year dealing with those big cornices on Meal odhar.

how was the buzzard? debating Lecht or Glenshee for Wednesday... weather not looking the best for either though but might be worth a 2/3 hours ski.

Buzzard was the best for snow the three main bits complete and snow in other bits but did not look pisted, some skiers were going down.
Buzzard did not open until afternoon, though.

Have a week off next week and seriously considering trying skiing in Scotland for the first time! Only downside is I live in Plymouth....was thinking of potentially taking the train to Dundee, staying in hotel for a few nights and taking the bus from Dundee to Glenshee. Don't really fancy driving 11 hrs there and back...Glencoe is about the same distance drive wise but train wise prob longer if going all the way up to Fort William and prob less accommodation options there?
What's the chance of the snow forecast affecting my transport plans? Looks like it may be a bit continuous snow particularly for Glenshee for a while- though maybe rain on lower ground? And although the webcams look snowier in Glenshee than Glencoe, why is the quoted snow depth a lot lower? Is the Glenshee quoted snow depth out of date?
As a background I’m an experienced skier that likes reds/blacks and out of choice might prefer the steeper slopes of Glencoe or Nevis Range if it eventually opens but ease of getting there is fairly important!

@Dr. Will, there's more snow at Glenshee, though Glencoe have most of their runs open too and you might get better weather overhead there if the run of easterly winds continues.
Dundee is quite a good city to base yourself in for Glenshee now there's a direct bus service. Lots to do if you end up not being able to ski.

More snow at Glenshee by miles, and more terrain as well as they will open Meal and Caen this weekend. Note next week is school holidays for some Scottish school areas, Aberdeenshire Mon-Wed and some Edinburgh schools. So will be a little bit busier than this week but not mega busy. Road will stay open I’d think now.

Thanks I think I'll give Glenshee a go if looking like the Plymouth-Edinburgh line and Edinburgh-Dundee line will not be screwed by snow weather warnings...will be a lot cheaper than Plymouth-Glencoe!
Do you know if you are allowed to take skis on the bus from Dundee to Glenshee (Or indeed the crosscountry mainline and Edinburgh to Dundee train for that matter!!) if not, are there ok ski hire places at the base of the lifts?

Check the Ember bus Dundee to Aberdeen (https://www.ember.to/) it stops at Glenshee and you can def take skis on that. Its also electric and thus saving the planet. I think the morning one goes at 8:13am or something like that and theres a return about 4:45 as it's always in the way when i am trying to cross the road after lift closedown.
Skis on trains no problem at all.
Yes there is ski hire, you can book tickets and hire but if you have decent gear bring it.
Angus hotel in Blairgowrie is pretty good and cheap, has a nice spa (sauna, pool, steam room), or stay in Fundee. If pubs are your thing the Speedwell Bar and Phoenix on Perth Rd both excellent, esp the chilli in the latter.

Thanks that’s really helpful. Will prob travel out Monday, 2 days skiing back Thursday if the weather conditions permit- looks like will snow quite a bit over the weekend so won’t be lacking snow, I guess visibility in the fog and access the only potential stumbling blocks!

I did look at those policies, most of which are of the ilk: "we reserve the right to refuse to let you carry your stuff if we think there's no space", which is not precisely a ban.
I've travelled extensively in the bottom right corner of the UK by train with snowboard, and encountered no problems at all. Ditto in Vancouver, of course.
TFL - where there's also no problem, actually use wording which is functionally the same as the "bans" listed on that linked site, except their "ban" covers any item at all. Which is obviously worse. Except it's not, in practice. Granted I've not used LNER, who may be different, but no one blinks on any line I've used. In any case I can stand my bag up on end and it takes less room than most suitcases.

I definitely wouldn't chance a transatlantic trip that was contingent on a jobsworth LNER staff member allowing a ski bag onto a train from the North East to London. Not after previous carry on simply getting two (booked) bikes onto an LNER train

^ never had any issues with ski gear on trains from Glasgow, Edinburgh or Newcastle on trains to/from Aviemore/Inverness or even south to Manchester airport come to think of it.
As above bus is possible for Glenshee and Perth another possible overnight spot if hedging your bets between ski areas/weather North/South/East/West. For Glencoe bus is (or was - not done if for ages) easiest from central belt.
Looking very promising conditions if a clearish weather spell aligns with the weekend (maybe Sunday??). Especially for the Lecht and Glenshee which haven't had a great run of luck the past few winters.

If staying in Dundee, the Ember bus leaves from near/at the train station i believe, so probably good idea to stay somewhere close. Limit the walk with ski gear to the bus.
The ember bus does seem good, not had a chance to use it yet. Hopefully I will as it links in quite well with the train timetable from Fife so defo doable for me. Normally drive as have the wife and child but a solo trip it would work and probably cheaper than driving.
