@8611, It didn't feel busy. There weren't any queues apart from the Olperer lift where the people who are race training congregate.

A lot of snow and cold temps in the forecast, I wonder might they get the run down to mid station open looks like they've been running the cannons on it

First day of the season yesterday for us.
Weather wasn't great, but the snow was in pretty good condition generally. Some icy patches where the wind had affected things, and some small stones on the Kaserer side of things, particularly at the top of the Kaserer 2 t-bar.
A good day though overall. Pretty busy up there, but that's what weekend skiing in the Autumn is like.

Thinking of a short getaway over new year's. Can anyone help me figure out where in Uderns the ski bus stop(s) are please? Trying to figure out if an apartment is close enough to it. And which ski lifts/areas would the bus serve?
Also, anyone know what time a supermarket might be open until on new year's eve in Uderns?
Thanks!

@qanuk, A quick Google says that Spar in Uderns will be open until 3 on New Years Eve. And, the Hofer (Aldi) website says ask directly at the store nearer the time
It would probably easier for you to say which apartment you're looking at so I can figure out where it is in relation to the bus stops and train station.
The buses will go to Hochfügen, Hochzillertal and Spieljoch. On the train you can go to Zell, Mayrhofen, or Hintertux with a change to a bus.
This is last year's bus timetable. I expect this year will be something similar. https://www.hochzillertal.com/fileadmin/Busplan_24_25.pdf

@qanuk, Thinking about it... Every ski area around here has a ski depot at the bottom of the gondola. If you leave your skis in a depot then nowhere in Uderns is more than a 5-10 mins. walk in street shoes from any of the bus stops.

Hochfügen to open some runs early this weekend and next weekend

And Hintertux have announced they'll open the Lärmstange 1 chair, Ramsmoos t-bar and Sommerberg chair, with up to 42km of skiing available.
The T-bar from tomorrow and the 2 chairs on the weekend.

Looking at popping over for a few days from Dec 7 to 11th, but will hold off booking for a few days yet to check on the weather. Don't want a 3 day whiteout. Seems like a lot of snow has been falling.
Any suggestions for the most accurate forecast for the valley?

@JimboS, all areas will be open from Friday 5th Dec so you're not just limited to glacier whiteouts if that is the weather. Can find yourself some trees along the valley.
I always use bergfex but I'm not convinced by it's accuracy.

Hochfügen pistes in great condition today
Not too busy up there either, presumably with Hochzillertal opening as well this weekend people went there to save driving up the hill.

Lovely touring conditions up at Hochfügen. Quite a lot of parties out there. Could hear regular whooping - always the sign of good conditions.

@Legendarry, loads of people skiing about off piste, i wouldn't be risking my bases this early
Hintertux announced yesterday that everything is open even the Schlegeis chair. That's the first time I've seen that this early in the last 4 seasons I've been going there.

@swskier, there is a certain inevitably about it.
Regarding the trains from Innsbruck/Jenbach/Mayrhofen, how flexible are the tickets, ie if I miss the train I book, can I use it on a later train? Or would I be better off just buying the tickets on the day?

@JimboS, I'll don't know too much on the train tickets as we just have monthly passes and jump on any train we want.
As its only a week away, its not like you'll get any special price or anything, so I'd suggest just buying it when you arrive on your phone with the ÖBB app or the VVT app.
And to follow up on @Alastair Pink's picture, here's Kaltenbach this morning.
Piste conditions are good considering it's still November!

@JimboS, The tickets for the trains & buses are generally valid for 2 hours, as far as I know no benefit in buying in advance. If I know I am going to be using an RJ which are usually busy, I will book a seat (you can book seats without a ticket, it costs a couple of Euros) then buy the ticket when I know I can make the train. If it is all regional trains then no point. There are lots of trains from Innsbruck to Jenbach so unlikely to be any sense in booking seats. Book on the ÖBB or VVT apps.

Just looking at the combined train ticket from Mayrhofen to Munich airport, same train and times,
OBB 135 Euro for two
DB 66 Euro for two
Is that normal?

Well I pulled the trigger and booked, flights were going up daily, especially on the Munich return flight.
Fingers crossed for the weather, bergfex says sun on Monday 8th while other say cloud.
Kim had her ACL rebuilt out of a spare ham string just 6 months ago so won't be joining me on the hill to ski but plans to head up daily for lunch.
The hotel is offering "free" 3 day passes with the deal so no problem for her to get up the mountain.
I'm normally (always) leading/directing with either family or friends so this solo trip is going to be focussed on technique improvement for me.

@JimboS, no, I have done in the past, but we're limited to half a day skiing because of leaving the dog at home, so wouldn't want to spend the best part of an hour driving to and from Mayrhofen, and then not skiing just watching the racing.
Mrs Swskier worked at the Unterbergalm in our first winter which is the hut next to the run the women race on there.
