Thanks for starting the thread.
I have my second trip to Zillertal in early January.
Had a great time last year in unseasonably warm weather so hope to explore more this time with some colder temps.

@swskier, I think you have more appetite for researching these kinds of things than I have
Do you have any idea what's happening at the top of Horberg? I spotted a crane up there on Saturday.
And, Zell closed for the summer last week. I've heard that they're renovating/upgrading? the Rosenalm gondola. Do you know anything about that?

Must be lovely being able to see the upper mountains go white like that, particularly living in a ski resort! We obv see and feel the seasons changing here but darkness doesn't quite equate to the excitement and expectation of the mountains getting ready for skiing, although every year without fail as soon as I feel that cold creep in my mind turns to it. To be fair, my mind is rarely far from it....

@swskier, Yes, as usual I was being his mobile aid station
I was on a mission to get to the gondola to get down to the valley before he finished so I didn't stop to see exactly where the crane was - it might have been at the Schneekarhütte, I suppose.
Just skim read the Rosenalmbahn articles... New cabins, refurbish the buildings, new control systems.
Yes, they've been widening the Kaltenbach valley run.
8erAlm in Hochfügen is being renovated and extended.

@8611, it's cool to watch it coming in. The snow from Friday is gone now, but hopefully it won't be long before some more comes along and it starts to stick around.

One of the advantages to the new house we've moved to in Fügen means we're now really close to the Spieljochbahn
I had a message from @SaraJ yesterday about next year's season passes, so I popped over to the kassa on my lunch break today to confirm everything with the office there.
Due to the EU laws with offering local discounts (or in this case, not offering them now!) the Zillertal have a bit of a work around for this which also benefits non locals if you're in the right place at the right time!
So there's 3 options for season passes next season:
The Zillertalberg pass will be available to purchase between 10-30 November in person only at the lift pass offices for €625 and this includes skiing from 14th November to 15th May. (As soon as you ski more than 10 days this pays itself off, and even quicker if you're doing 2 separate weeks for example)
The Zillertal superski pass is €1098 this covers skiing from 5th Dec to 12th April
Tirol Snowcard pass is €1029 if purchased before 31st October, or €1169 if purchased after 31st October. This covers skiing between 1st October to 15th May.
So that's your options, but if you happen to be out here in late November, you can score yourself a relative bargain!
For me it means no skiing until mid November, but with plans we already have that's actually 4 times i'll miss out on skiing, and if conditions are really good I could always buy a day pass.

So the far cheaper pass covers a much longer season?? What areas are on the Zillertalberg pass?

Everywhere, Fügen to Hintertux.
It's cheaper for a reason, it's likely to be locals that purchase it as it's only on offer a limited period, and has to be purchased in person. The lift companies aren't allowed to offer a locals discount though, so this is their way round it, but if you're here at the right time it also works well for non locals too now.

Ta for that @swskier. I've bought a Magic Pass for next winter but it's good to know for future seasons that it's worth an early season Hintertux trip to pick up a Zillertalberg pass. Is it available at all ticket offices, or just specific locations?

@mountainaddict, I'll report back for future seasons, but I would assume this is the way it'll work going forward.
I didn't ask specifically at the Spieljochbahn, but I assume any open lift pass office.

@swskier, are you sure for November? not in October? strange...
however, the same ist for Freizeitticket , Tirol Regio Card and Tirol Snowcard
Do not know if Sölden makes something like last year for 333 Euro
However all of them you have to buy personally in October.

The buying in person thing came up last year after an Austrian court ruled restricting passes to "locals" was discriminatory. However not all areas are insisting on in person sales for pre season offers. The Arlberg is selling heavily discounted season passes including online up to the 11.12.

@turms2, 100% November, no October skiing without the Snowcard this season.
@matejp, no idea I'm afraid.
@Glosterwolf, I'll be teaching between Christmas and new year this year, but I do have Jason and his wife and kids (not sure if you know him, coaching gloucester now) staying at ours 1-4 Jan. If I'm free I'm up for a meet up
@munich_irish, locals discount was still possible last season in Zillertal when it probably shouldn't have been, so it seems as though the in person during a specific period is to aim it 99% at locals.

@swskier, Hi yeah I do know Jason, we went to a Landgraaf camp with him as a coach. We crossed over clubs at the same time unintentionally due to my daughters preference, we never seem to cross paths these days. We are closer to the Innsbruck resorts but its only about 30 mins round to fugen according to maps so I would be up for it towards then end of the week. Speak closer to the time

@swskier, ok strange but it is what it is
@munich_irish, but Arlberg as some other cards were available to everyone. Ski Amadé and Salzburg Super Ski Card also; they only offered an early-bird discount that was available to everyone.
Until last summer, the Tirol Snowcard had a discount only for the locals and Freizeitticket, Tirol Regio Card were available generally ONLY for the Tirol Residents or Tirol Students
Then someone filed a lawsuit (I think it was a consumer protection organization in Austria). The ruling was that for every card sold with a local discount, there would be a penalty of around €720. As a result, they canceled all local discounts.
Instead of local discounts, they now sell season ski passes only during a specific time period (from xx.xx to xx.xx), and you have to purchase them in person — online purchase is not possible. So they are still aiming to the locals, but if you live nearby its also possible.
Some other resorts still offer local discounts. But with some tricks, e.g. the locals has the privilege of a local card for many thins (pools, libraries etc) and with this card you have among others also a discount for ski pass (ok, there is not different at allo but....) , or you have a discount as a member of "Chamber of Labor" (is this the right name in Englisch??)
I suppose each lift company/community etc has to decide for itself how to proceed with this.
To be honest, on one hand I understand the locals’ frustration about issues such as finding apartments, jobs, traffic, etc. But usually, it’s the locals who earn the most from tourism.
On top of that, many years ago an Austrian resident sued a swimming pool in Bavaria because he had to pay €1 more than the locals… Karma?

@turms2, my first winter here, 23/24 I had the Tirol Snowcard, with a locals discount via my Meldezettel.
Last winter 24/25 I bought the Tirol Snowcard again at the early bird price, asked about the Meldezettel and was told nope, only early bird. Mrs Swskier bought a Zillertal bergpass with a Meldezettel, for somewhere around the €600 mark, similar to the 25/26 price. That's now disappeared with the new limited time, in person only purchase between 10-30 November.
As you say, Tirol Snowcard and Freizeitticket are both in person only purchasing also.
I can get discounted day passes within Zillertal via my work. There's also discounts available to ski instructors too depending on the level of your qualification.

Good morning, I hope I am. In the right place. Looking to go book a DIY trip to Mayrhofen the first week in February. Looking for a decent price transfer company. The best so far I have been quoted is £114 PP return from Innsbruck. Anyone have any suggestions?

When we take a taxi it’s normally 120-130 for a family of 4 in a large taxi. So that price sounds reasonable.
We tend to use Taxi Olly in Mayrhofen but have used Alpstria as well which is Innsbruck based. Only issue is they are very popular and a couple of times we have had to wait at Innsbruck for the car to arrive.
