Any reports on the conditions today? Trying to figure out where to go tomorrow, keeping in mind it's pretty warm and cloudy even overnight.

Skied all the way down to the bottom of prodains today. Snow was beginning to get wetter at the bottom, but it was still great.
Tomorrow will be sunny and busy. Looking out of the window, night seems to be pretty clear.
Edit - windy though, which wasn't forecast by meteosuisse. Not sure if the wind will last or cause a problem tomorrow.

Spent today in Les Gets and Morzine (started in Nyon). Anything below the top of Perierres and below the Chavannes Plateau in Les Gets is very much skiable but becoming sticky. The runs off Ranfoilly and the new Rosta chair were lovely this afternoon though. Chamossieres was ace as always. Planning to head to Chatel, Linga and PlJ tomorrow before our late flight back to Blighty. That would be my suggestion for you @klanfa.

Cheers, ended up doing a loop from Ardent to hit Grand Paradis (first time after 50+ days in PDS!), over to Super Châtel, and back via Linga.
Great snow as usual on Ripaille drags, though unsurprisingly rest of Swiss side was very soft by noonish. Fun and grippy moguls on the way back in the afternoon. And it was sunny most of the day!

Uncomfortably busy in some of the usual pinch-points yesterday ... the lift infrastructure seems to have coped well as we didn't have to queue for more than 10 mins. But Ardent was overflowing by 9:15 ...
Biggest issue for me was the abundance of brain-dead, speed merchant w*nkers on busy runs (Grand Plan down to Lindarets and the runs off Cornebois come to mind) as well as key intersections such as Lindarets (saw a teenager coming down from the Chaux Fleurie side take out an elderly gentleman who was poling towards the restaurants from the bottom of Prolays - it looked nasty).
Lesson learnt ... stay at home with a cup of tea and a paper on peak-season Sundays ...

@franga, indeed. Unfortunately i am stuck with the school holidays. And i have to mention there are some pinch-points which i feel really insecure...
And usually there are these heading to avoriaz , either from Switzerland (from Grand Conche until the cross with cubore lift) or from Chatel (Grand Plan slope) or Morzine e.g. this piece of slope after taking the proclou or lindarets and trying to ski to folie douce or the ESF Meeting point etc is something like a Minefield in Vietnam..you do not know what going to happened in the next 2m.

Hi guys, two quick questions, if anybody could help, please.
I'm returning to the PDS for the 15th time but this is my first time bringing a group to Châtel.
I'm just wondering which lifts would you advise to get out of the village (or bus) to avoid having to queue in the mornings, unless this isn't an issue?
And are there any free beginner lifts in Châtel that some could use when we arrive around 1300hrs Saturday 31st?
We're staying on Rte du Petit Châtel.
Thanks for any advice.

@Ukformula, There should not be any issues with queues as you are there one week before the school holidays start and it will be relatively quiet and the skiers will disperse quickly as most of the areas are now open and more snow is on its way. I am also there from 30th to 2nd Feb and I am not at all concerned.
There is a ski bus that runs from Petit Chatel to Linga along your road which gives you options of starting from Super Chatel or Linga - the latter gives faster access to the Pre La Joux sector and to Linderets / Avoriaz. Super Chatel has great sunny beginners area and snowpark and also links to Linga and Petit Chatel by lift. Don't take anyone to start at Linga unless they are comfortable on hard blues / easy reds. You could also start at Petit Chatel on a day and explore that area between Super Chatel, Torgon and La Chapelle.
There are no free lifts for the saturday but you can buy a "Happy Ski" pass for the Chatel area (ie not PDS) that starts at 14:30 and costs around EUR20.
You do however need to book restaurants in advance as they are in short supply. There are recommendations earlier in this thread.
Enjoy your stay

Once a year skier - we are staying in Morzine, weekend of 28th / 29th February, which ties in with the backend of French school holidays. A couple of questions for the experts
1). Is this weekend as busy as the weekend 2 weeks before which ties in with UK half term? We skied Avoriaz that weekend a few years ago and the Sunday was very busy.
2). Is it generally quieter on the Pleney / Les Gets side compared to Avoriaz on busy weekends?
thanks

@parsonm, Shouldn’t be too crazy as it’s change over and it’s only France Zone C : Créteil, Montpellier, Paris, Toulouse, Versailles on holidays the next week. Other countries are all back at school.

Snow falling steadily at Petit Chatel (1300m) and just on freezing level. Starting to settle on roads. If this carries on it will certainly freshen up the pistes.

Just a few cms unfortunately. When I was coming home from the fer at around midnight there were already patches of clear sky.
No worries, it's forecast to snow lightly all week, which would be a needed refresh.

It was great for the first few runs on piste, until it skied out within 20mins. Maybe there was 5cm up top but mostly cosmetic.
I heard someone on a lift claim 7cm, but that was definitely a "gentleman's" 7cm.

Last Saturday morning I made the most of La Rosta/Grains d'Or to loop on Yeti and Myrtille, so today I was hoping to do the same, but instead stayed on a relatively empty Chery (there were clubs training, of course, that's why we were there in the first place).
Plus there was enough snow to allow getting down on skis...
Wish we'd stay the afternoon!

Skied the Swiss side today, all over round to lunch at Coquoz under the Planachaud chair above Champery. Didn't bother dropping over int France which we did yesterday, cos just really nice on piste skiing conditions everywhere although TBF my skis had nice harp edges after servicing yesterday - having realised that they had not been serviced for probably >50ski days
Any new snow, and really it was little more than a dusting, would have gone by the time we got out, but the snowmaking and grooming over this side has been exemplary so far this season.
Oh, and sunshine this afternoon made the whole experience even nicer.
Tomorrow I'm out in new boots, having realised that my old ones, having done something in the order of 200 days (not counted, I can't even remember if it was five, six or seven years ago I got them) really were no longer fit for purpose.
Head Kaliber, if anyone's interested. Set on a 120 flex which is clearly a lot stiffer (in the shop) than my old ones now are, but can be changed to 130, depending on how it goes; whether I feel the need or not I can't yet say.

Likewise not out yet, but looking out the window there's a good 10cm on the car roofs here at 1350m. REports suggest that's all that's fallen higher up as well though, so Im not getting too excited or digging out the powder skis.

Well in the event I did, and it was. Mostly edge piste around Chalet Neuf and Morclan areas, but as many may know there's some quite nice open stuff around there.

Well that's a waste of time then. So you can't even do 2 days consecutive?
It's a long way to go (from pds) for one ski day.

@snoozeboy, i think is what @shep, mentioned...only Sunday + Monday, however i do not know exactly , didnt bother to aks.
I aks PDS and Nendaz and they mentioned , there its possible either consecutive days, or 1 days , as you want, but you have to go everyday to the desk to become an one day ticket.
Do not know if its possible to become at once 5 x 1 day tickets (with the Alpspass its possible)

Haven't used the extra days anywhere, but it was always my understanding, based on what it said on the pds webpage, that you would need to get a day ticket for each day you want to ski in any of the partner resorts. But yes, there's an additional rider for that area

We did a week in La Thuile last year and took advantage of the 5 days. It was great and we were looking forward to doing it again this year. We had gone as far as booking an apartment before it became clear that it was not consecutive (in the early booking details it did not say). Fortunately we had free cancellation, so rebooked for a week in Champoussin where we haven't stayed before. I wonder how many people won't be aware and get caught out. We are also staying in Fiesch (part of the Aletsch Arena) again this year. We know we'll only get 3 days there but it's worth it. For our final week in March we are staying in Veysonnaz (Verbier 4 Valleys) and have successfully used our 5 free days there for the past 4 years.

@turms2, Yes, it's not 100% clear, but the way it's worded with the number separated from the object is consistent with five individual days., more so than if it said "5 days, winter 2025-26" , for example.
|
|

|
@Chaletbeauroc, i think you are right...
however i think that Chatel, didnt put the number separated from the object in order to give the meaning of five individual days
I suppose the make a translation vie Deepl or something like that, or simpel 5 days in Winter and 1 day in summer. Its not their motherlanguage also
The 5 X ski day vouchers is more clear.
However it is what it is. But this with La Rosiere is a really bad communication. And i wanted to book there for HT.
Nice that i didnt do it

I'm arriving Saturday and, looking forward to it. Forecast looks mixed to favourable. First time in PdS so would love your suggestions for my first day on Sunday please, I'll be solo this day.
I'm staying in Morzine on line U so have easiest access to Super Morzine and Pleney. Snowboader, Intermediate, 1 week a year. The forecast (wepowder) currently looks overcast and potentially a snowy/wet afternoon.
1. Looking for suggestions for spending time on Sunday. Want to ease into it, before expanding out to cover some ground in the afternoon. Looking at the map perhaps starting by heading over to Les Gets side around Rosta? Open to suggestions but if staying on that side I'll buy a Morzine pass that day and start my PDS pass on Monday.
2. In concert with the above, also looking for coffee stops and early lunch suggestions (light and/or good value), maybe with a view or people watching considering I'll be solo.
Mostly avoid blacks and I will "suffer" technical reds. Probably avoiding both on day 1.
Generally look to avoid surface lifts, flat or uphill sections if alternatives exist.
Thanks in advance! There's a recent tips thread I am in the process of reading through.
