Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Skoda (probably VW/Audi/SEAT as well) Alloys and winter tyres

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Our faithful Octavia Scout is being replaced and my winter wheels and tyres don't fit the new car.

They are therefore available. I am posting here in advance of putting them on Ebay as they might well suit a Snowhead as the answer to all ski car questions seems to be Octavia Estate 4x4!

Wheels are 16 inch 5x112 alloys in good condition, light kerbing scratch to one of them. Tyres are 205/55 R16 with decent tread depth remaining (around 5mm, I can do a proper measure if anyone is interested). They match the correct specification for winter fitment in the handbook

I have had the car for 9 years (the tyres are newer than that, this set replaced an older one when they got worn down below 3mm) and done probably 15 winter trips out to the Alps over that time and whilst I have always carried chains I have never needed to fit them. The winter tyres make a massive difference. Drives up the snow covered 10% gradient into our parking from a standing start with no trouble.

Any questions please ask.

Available in Colchester or East London. I may be able to deliver elsewhere if I am travelling that way.

£275

I have actually been out and checked the tyres!

3 are Nankang with 6 to 7 mm of tread, one is a newer Continental with 8mm (I had a puncture near Reims which could not be repaired and the Continental was the one with the tread pattern most similar to the other three. They all have the 3PMSF (three peak mountain snowflake) logo.

The wheels are 6.5Jx16 ET50

@DJL, have you sold these yet, or are they still gathering dust somewhere clean & dry?

Still in the garage. I was going to bump the thread before I tried Ebay. Feel free to send me a pm if of interest.

sorry for the thread drift - I have just changed over to the winter wheels on our Scout so am not in the market!
But what are you replacing it with? We have had ours 10 years and done 114k - still working well and seldom feel any hire car is a meaningful improvement but we'll need to move it on before too long so I'm curious.

@jedster, Audi A6 Avant Quattro is the new one. We fancied a bit more space and luxury with similar on snow performance but better over the ground performance. The boot is actually smaller!

The Scout has been great but would have needed 5 suspension links plus a set of shock absorbers to get through the MOT. At nearly 10 years old and over 125k miles and well battered it was time for a change.

Nice - we were thinking of the old version of one of those when we bought the Scout (we'd had a M535D Touring before) but decided we CBA to spend the extra money. I was surprised at the time that the Scout felt roomier (not just the boot) than the 5 series! I think it is a lot because the seats are a bit more upright - you sit a bit lower and longer in the A6 and 5 series.

We've now got a VW California Ocean so think we might be going for something a bit less sensible when we replace the Scout.
My wife drives the Skoda more than I do and so far three people have said to let them know if she ever wants to sell it...

@jedster, they are great cars - was very sad when ours needed moving on in Jan 2024. Even with a broken gearbox (needed replacing, first gear didn’t work) I got £4.5k tradein and can see it’s been successfully MOT’d twice since I sold it.
We replaced with the current version of Octy estate; 2.0l tdi automatic (but no 4wd), which is a little wallowy on windy roads but plenty power.
@DJL, Sorry for the thread drift…

The cold/snow has arrived!

Final bump for these - £200 to shift them. Otherwise I'm taking my chances on eBay.
