Champagny regulars, have you got a preferred ski shop for base repairs?
I believe I need a base weld as I have a small core shot that I'd like repairing. I've used the ski set atelier next to the timbale for waxing / sharpening before but never more "involved" work.

@Ruswit, We use the same ski set shop for all our servicing and repairs, they always seem to do a good job although we've never needed any major repairs.

Anyone there at the moment to report on the snowfall/rain limit and how the big dump is developing? Forecast still looks good for up to 1m of fresh snow above 2000m in next few days…. But possible rain lower down…

It's pissed down all night in Bourg Saint Maurice. The snow bombing has been going off since 7am . Not sure of the snow line as it's thick cloud above but looking at the hill to the south, possibly about 1000m ..

Webcams this morning suggest it was mostly rain in the lower villages (Champagny, Montalbert, Montchavin) overnight but now definitely falling as the white stuff….

Looks like temps slowing but steadily dropping today and tomorrow.
And Saturday night and Sunday forecast to be -10 in the lower villages.

From the La Plagne official website:
En raison des conditions météorologiques exceptionnelles sur les deux Savoie, le niveau de risque d’avalanche est évalué à 5/5 (risque très fort). Dans ce contexte, afin de garantir votre sécurité et celle de nos équipes, nous sommes contraints de fermer l’ensemble du domaine skiable pour la journée du 12/02/2026
Enjoy the day off, I suspect the rest of the Tarentaise will come to the same decision.

Just seen that on That's LaPlagne FB group - big decision but I suppose with HT just days away, better to control what's fallen and make it as safe as possible.
I'd be surprised if it's the only resort that takes this decision

Not really a surprise. The avalanche risk has been at level 3 or above for most of the season and with the large amount of fresh snow on a very unstable base it is the correct decision. In January people were just ignoring the level 4 avalanche risk (highest risk where the resort is still open) and going off-piste or down closed pistes, sometimes with fatal consequences.
I don't think it being British half term week next week will make any difference to their decision making, it looks like heavy snow early next week so that could result in closures. At least the pistes will be in excellent condition when it is open.

Roc des Blanchets - good value plat du jour.
Le Sauget - cosy spot with a fire.
Le Forperet - nice grub near Montalbert.

Roc des Blanchets also has a very nice snack bar round the back with lots of sun loungers. It's my preferred lunch spot in La Plagne in good weather, as there are beautiful views across the valley to Courchevel.

Klammy, have you tried Le Sauget recently?
It used to be brilliant, then the old couple who ran it left.
Some younger crowd (their children?) took over and it went rapidly downhill.
The old couple returned to try and improve things, but from our experience they unfortunately failed.
Therefore not visited for a few years.
It would be great if back to its previous glory.
But, returning to Specialman's query. Would "with kids" mean chicken and chips or pizza?
Then Monica's is a good bet - Plagne Soleil, off Ecartée piste.

Looks like a panicky overreaction.
They only got 50-70cm of snow.
That's barely a sprinkle for places like Japan and Washington.

Beautiful morning in Champagny, some lifts here due to open around 10am. Info below from the La Plagne website.
The avalanche risk has fallen to 4/5 this morning: an Avalanche Triggering Intervention Plan is underway to secure the ski area. Gradual reopening expected in the morning. You can follow the opening status in real time on this page.
Maximum vigilance remains in place regarding avalanche risk. Only the slopes are safe, and the off-piste area remains extremely dangerous. Do not venture off-piste, including local off-piste (on the edge of pistes and between two pistes).

Anyone there now can confirm what the road up from Aime to Belle Plagne is like now? We picked up hire car today from Geneva and could only get snow socks not chains, overnighting in Albertville tonight and planning on heading up to Belle Plagne first thing in the morning before the main rush. Hoping socks will be enough for the police to let us up if they’ve done a good job clearing the roads today?

@chopkins13, I am not on the ground but my understanding is it's been a clear day and a calm night and morning to follow. So I would be amazed if roads were not clear and there is any sort of enforcement in place.
Another big dump incoming Sunday night through Monday though so you are in for some incredible conditions.

With it being HT I thought the webcams would show some apocalyptic-like scene of hoards of people trying to get up the mountain - I guess today is transfer day for many so it's quiet. Be interesting to see how many are there tomorrow. The snow looks 'ample' to say the least, some very lucky people who've timed it nicely for a week's holiday this year, fair play

@Specialman, I'm not so sure anyone's going to get great conditions this week.
Mon-Weds looks like it could be pretty wild weather wise. I'd expect a lot of the higher runs to be closed for chunks of that given the wind forecasts and the amount of snow landing early in the week.
Hopefully it's still enough for people to get out. At least if you're there with kids the sledging will be epic.

Well, it certainly looks lovely in La Plagne just now:

Weather forecast for the mountains is a dark art.
Take each day as it comes - you often get surprises, pleasant and unpleasant.
Here in London it is miserable and raining. Give me the alps any day.

@Jonpim, It was lovely in La Plagne today, lots of fresh snow on piste and good visibility as opposed to Saturday when the visibility wasn't great. Snow to the side of the piste was deep but quite heavy and the avalanche risk level had dropped to 3 today. The slopes weren't too busy if you timed it right and we 've not had any major queues although we avoided the regular busy areas.
According to Lauren, the crepe maker at the Inversen restaurant, they had about 2 metres of fresh snow in the storm last week and it took 6 of them with 2 snow clearing machines 8 hours to clear the snow from their terrace last Friday.
He won't be happy as it started snowing heavily again earlier this evening and is forecast to continue all day on Monday.
Just remind me why you're back in wet and miserable London?
