Was at La Ros over the weekend, it was extremely windy and therefore scraped up all day long. Mostly very, very firm but not icy - although there were of course a few ice patches here and there.
Snow was much nicer around the Col and on the Italian side, albeit soft below ~1800ish. |
I will only be skiing probably blue groomers this trip as need to take it easy. I expect they soften in the mid morning for La ros in the sun, or still very firm?
Perhaps I need to get my beginner over to Les suches for some better snow.
With that in mind, how doable is Bouquetin for a beginner? May she need to walk a section? |
They put a new Chardonnet lift in for this season which decouples and there were beginners taking it down to avoid Bouquetin. You do have to ask the lift operator though. |
Oh that's great news, I assume it is easy and instant to get this sorted?

Yes, you can just walk up and ask and it looked like they would wait for a gap where there aren't too many people getting off so they can get people into position to go down. It's written at the link below on the La Rosiere website too. Bouquetin is steep and narrow at the start and the first section can be icy but after the first corner its ok.

Was in La Thuile / Las Ros today - sunny, slightly mixed but pleasant piste skiing above the mid mountain in La Thuile, with heavier spring conditions below the mid mountain.
Windy and very wind scoured pistes over in La Ros and very heavy spring conditions below the mid mountain there - hardly a soul on the pistes over there, and for good reason - definitely stay in the Italian side going on current conditions.

Yesterday in La Rosiere on piste - a bit of everything, from v hard and scrapey to slush at town early afternoon. V v strong winds all day made top of drags a bit of a mare tbh. Not cold but the wind was managing to whip up every loose bit of surface ice and we felt pretty battered by the (early) end! Good, reasonable late lunch in the snack bar bit of Relais du Petite St Bernard at foot of slopes. A few centimeters fell overnight and wind has dropped

On a nostalgia trip to La Ros ( 13 yrs since last visit and the kids learnt here. Staying in Eucherts this week - headed over to the Col today where it was absolutely glorious . Quier, blazing sun v decent snow etc. Almost otherworldly if you haven't been. Red 7 down to LT in good nick and passed the prep for the womens downhill. Ros side was heavier going by 3 but tis the price you pay for south facing.

Arrivée last night.
Out at 9am and headed over to La Thuile from Eucherts via Plan De Repos. A few cm overnight meant some good conditions u der the blaring sun. Pretty grippy but you could tell it was firm underneath.
Fantastic conditions from Col all across La Thuile. Probably had 15cm of fresh snow overnight. We mainly stayed around Suches.
After a few laps of grand tetras it started to cloud over so we headed back to La Ros.
Some pretty hefty moguls had developed and was pretty heavy headed back into resort.
All in all, fantastic conditions.
Looks like moderate snow for the rest of the week so we will probably stick to the La Ros side.
Any suggestions for the best runs in poor visibility, heavy cloud or snow?

Today we popped over to La Thuile from Ste Foy . Although in cloud from a sunny La Rosiere the snow in La Thuile was great very good depth on all runs with some new snow. Because of the cloud we skied the lower runs returning to the resort and all were in very good condition with the added attraction of watching the last preparations before the ladies downhill events. Tried a new venue for lunch Lo Tata , another one added to our list. Although sunny and well prepared the runs in La Rosiere below the fort were scoured and compact and it was rather busy for this time of March , the recent foehn winds have taken their toll .

I hadnt noticed this earlier and I think the super G or one day of it is an extra to compensate for St Moritz being cancelled in December but the FIS womens racing hits La Thuile 11th -15th March. Racing down black 3 Franco Berthod (top of main Gondola back into Town)
https://www.skiworldcuplathuile.com
Shouldn't effect the main recreational skiing area too much., but traffic and parking may be a pig.
We may leave it until the 16th to pay a visit from Aosta, and defo avoid that piste, it will be solid ice! |
The downhill element of this got cancelled and in some scheduling rejigging with half an eye on the weather forecast, the 2 Super G's are now today and tmr morning 11am starts.
That said Saturday still looks vulnerable to iffy visibility particularly up around Chaz Dura etc

Any suggestions for some good family friendly piste side apres bars at the Front de neige?? Or at least not to far from it.
As said above, staying at Le Roc Noir so anywhere close with the skis or a short walk after putting them in the locker, will be fine.

We’ve enjoyed our three days skiing here in La thuile. Skied over to La rosiere yesterday too. I think the ski area is great.
It’s a little warm lower down resulting in poorer snow conditions.
Really enjoyed some of the tree lined runs and imagine they’d be fantastic during the middle of winter

Back home Saturday evening after a week in La Rosiere. Quick overview from my perspective. Great for families with young children (mine are 4-13), with the EFS set up for the younger ones perfect. We had them in morning lessons with a lunch included taking the time to 2pm pick up. We would ski from 9am to 1.30pm, which was enough as by 2pm+ the snow was getting slushy and the pistes very mogulled. This was due to having a week of blue bird days (except the first day Sunday), so the resort was just big enough including two trips to La Thuile, to keep us occupied for a full week.
We stayed in the Roc Noir Aparthotel, which was perfect for ski in ski out and the EFS drop off in the morning. We had a party of 14 in total so had the large top two floored apartment that they have and it was spacious for us all with plenty of room/bedrooms.
Town was lovely and had plenty of bars/restaurants to keep you busy all week. The Luge was great fun and is a must if you have little ones with you.
Overall we enjoyed our stay in La Rosiere and would happily head back in the future.

Came on here to find this winters updated thread but it appears not to have been set up. And further to my surprise, that I was the last person to contribute to last winters post!
I was looking for any updates from the past 3/4 weeks post opening?? Snow conditions, any new resort news, etc.
As per my last post ("would happily head back in the future"), we've booked the exact same accommodation again for Easter week (28th-4th). But with that comes concerns on snow conditions at that time of year, as will be arriving a few days after our departure day the previous year, when it was desperate for some new snow and a few colder days to stop the lunch time ice cream.
Any experiences of skiing in La Rosiere into April?

@Roscoe We’ve skied in La Thuile at Easter, 1st - 8th April 2018, and had big dumps of snow (50cm+) followed by bluebird days. International connection was open every day and although the snow was thin at resort level towards the end of the week, there was plenty at altitude.

When there last year it was blue bird days 6/7 days and sometimes skiing without a jacket. I prefer skiing in brutal cold but with the young kids the sun/warmth keeps them happy.
