There has not been SB thread yet this season so I thought I would start one.
SB saw a lot of snow through December and above 2000m looks like getting 100cm+ by the time the week is out.
I will be there from Saturday and will provide some updates from both the French and Italian side.

The conditions here are fantastic. Wall to wall sun shine and great snow quality with cold temps.
Hoping to be back out in March as I dislocated my shoulder on the third run of a 3 week trip. Fingers crossed for similar conditions then.

Its getting plenty of snow at the moment and more forecast over next few days. We're there mid-march for a long weekend - planning to split between La Thuile and Pila. I did a day there (also in feb 2020 @MotownJunk)
@kettonskimum, a lot of it on Italian side is high and exposed, so wonderful in good weather, less so in bad weather. I believe la Thuile is nicknamed little siberia, It has a bit of everything really, a good beginner / improver area at top of the main Gondola, steeper reds to progress onto, long valley runs down either side back to LaTu and "over the back" and obviously the connection into La Rosiere which is sunnier (due to aspect) and a good mix of red and blue. La thuile faces mainly north and east, so snow conditions hold up well in the sunshine.

We’re in La Rosiere too for half term so good to hear it is snowing Any recommendations for lunch stops? Ideally up the mountain but needs to cater for one person not skiing but i think some of the lifts allow non skiers.

Lo Ratrak (near the Les Suches gondola top station) is my favourite and has stunning views of Mont Blanc on a sunny day. Very popular though, so worth booking for lunch.
Lo Riondet (part way down piste 7) is good too.

From a quick webcam scout, poor visibility today, possibly some more snow happening in amongst the mist& cloud. Unsurprisingly, better visibility with flutters of snow down the road in the more sheltered Courmayeur and Pila resorts.

Great day trip to La Thuile today (day 3 of 4 of an Aosta Valley £30 Ryanair jaunt - I'll do an overall trip report!). First trip to La Thuile for at least 10 years.
- Absolutely perfect snow conditions after a lot of fresh snow.
- Lots of powder (shame we didn't know the area well enough to take advantage...).
- Not very busy, though fairly big queues at Chaz Dura chair mid morning, to get over to La Rosiere.
- Mainly sunny in Italy - foggy and flat light in France (we didn't stay over the border long).
- A lot more 'stand up and go' flat connecting runs than we remember. Also a bit surprised to see that the two endless drag lifts to return from La Rosiere haven't been upgraded/replaced.
- Nevertheless, a totally brilliant day amidst fantastic scenery The views were amazing.
A few snaps...

@mountainaddict, looks awesome! Can you remember which piste your tree pic is from? Just seen a post on the La Thuile FB page boasting 3m of snow on piste and up to 6m off piste / on mountaintops (that may be a wonky translation)

Does anyone know if ski rental places in La Thuile (near the lift) also offer ski and boot storage?
Thanks.

ok, to answer my own question it looks like Onlyski offer ski lockers with any rental.

Hi, we're out at half term and have reserved a ski locker with OnlySki - 10 Euros a day for a 4 berth. Emailed them and they said my email reservation would be enough to secure a booking. Didn't rent direct from them but used Alpinresorts which saved a bit......not sure if that'll give us any discount when we actually get our gear in their store (not banking on it).

Just finished our week skiing in LT. Has been lovely and sunny (apart from today). Snow has been lovely but now getting a bit scraped in places so could do with a drop more - which I believe is coming.
Totally preferred piste 7 (via 4) to return over piste 6. Although there's a bit of a 30m kamikaze stretch if returning late afternoon about mid way down - bit icy.
Went to La Rosiere and was very warm.....sort of preferred it if being totally honest. Very cruise reds and maybe I'm just more of a converted spring/fair weather skier. Didn't think the long drag to return to LT was that much of a bother (and ours stopped for 5 mins mid way!). You can avoid the second drag by going left at the top and taking the blue run.
Left hand side of LT (when looking at piste map) had lovely cruisey reds which are nice in good weather. Lifts are a little old. Kids (teens) were a bit disappointed there was no snow park but we found a few jumps.
Had lunch on slopes at a couple of places but much of a muchness. I did hear the Roxy (something like that) at the bottom of the Fourclaz lift is very good. Evening wise we've eaten at La Lisse which is our nearest place and it's very good (fondue valdostana lovely and is for one person rather than minimum of 2!). Brasserie du Mathieu cheap and cheerful but nice food and proper locals place.
Enjoy if you've yet to go!

Just returned from a week in La Rosiere too, was amazing weather. Enjoyed skiing in both La Rosiere and La Thuile. Kids had ski lessons with Oxygene in Les Eucherts who were great (smaller groups then some of the other ski schools we saw).
Roxy at the bottom of La Fourclaz lift on LT side is lovely for a drinks stop. Really cosy inside. We ate at Ratrak whilst over at LT which is at the top of the Suches Gondola (all thought it was the best lunch of the week compared to France side). We skied pretty much the whole resort - went down the black 2 & 3 down to LT which are manageable. It was the Mont Valaisan area in France which tested me most - but was the last day and slopes felt hard / icy - definitely could do with more snow.
We loved the area, La Rosiere is a very pretty town and slopes have lots of versatility for everyone. One of our party went snow shoeing which she highly recommended too.

I hadnt noticed this earlier and I think the super G or one day of it is an extra to compensate for St Moritz being cancelled in December but the FIS womens racing hits La Thuile 11th -15th March. Racing down black 3 Franco Berthod (top of main Gondola back into Town)
https://www.skiworldcuplathuile.com
Shouldn't effect the main recreational skiing area too much., but traffic and parking may be a pig.
We may leave it until the 16th to pay a visit from Aosta, and defo avoid that piste, it will be solid ice!

We are in La Rosiere from 8th March. Did ski down the Franco Berthod piste a good few years back when I was fitter and younger and was skiing regularly. Found it tough then, don't think I would try it now and anyway looking at the online piste map I think it is shown as closed, most likely so they can prep it for the race. Looking at XC Weather La Thuile is due a fair bit of snow from Sunday onwards.

Wasn't going to be on my agenda regardless. IIRC, red 7 was the most pleasant way down if you were skiing to the base.

Was at La Ros over the weekend, it was extremely windy and therefore scraped up all day long. Mostly very, very firm but not icy - although there were of course a few ice patches here and there.
Snow was much nicer around the Col and on the Italian side, albeit soft below ~1800ish.

I will only be skiing probably blue groomers this trip as need to take it easy. I expect they soften in the mid morning for La ros in the sun, or still very firm?
Perhaps I need to get my beginner over to Les suches for some better snow.
With that in mind, how doable is Bouquetin for a beginner? May she need to walk a section?

Last weekend it was firm until close, the temp was around 0 at base but with very strong winds. I think it's warmer this week. Météo France was the only forecasting tool that caught the wind btw.
Bouquetin is somewhat narrow at the start but I didn't think it was too bad of a red - especially in the morning when there were no moguls. It wasn't icy except for the first few meters that were wind blown.

Never take your skis off to go downhill, that's asking for trouble.
Learn a good sideslip if necessary. Skis have better edges than ski boots.

They put a new Chardonnet lift in for this season which decouples and there were beginners taking it down to avoid Bouquetin. You do have to ask the lift operator though.
