He wasn't very competitive on Sunday morning. |
No, looked distinctly uncomfortable. maybe he should stick to GS. |
In Felix Neureuther's opinion, the slalom skis Hirscher was on weren't up do the job - not good advertising/publicity for Van Deer.

Watching videos of Hirscher skiing when he was retired, I felt that he looked like he had lost the leg strength needed to ski the way he was trying to do. I only saw an edited video of his run at Levi which didn't include the main pitch.

@TheMikeSki,
she was seriously impressive today, at the age of 41 and after being retired for a few years, i wonder how much of a difference a shortened course mattered today?
though i feel sorry for Kajsa Vickhoff Lie (i follow her youtube channel), as i thought it was hers when LV's timings were in the red initially.

@terrygasson, I think she said that she knew she'd struggle a bit on the glide section near the top, so maybe with the full course she could have carried more speed though it?
No matter though, she bloody impressive for sure.

You could see she made time up in the turns compared to the others in the 3rd sector.
She seemed to just have her skis more parallel and working better with little to no slough of them.
Whatever, what she is doing is incredible.

After her crash today, I was just looking back at the posts from 2024 in this thread. Has anyone changed their minds about whether LV perhaps knew best/was not actually bonkers and/or changed their assumptions about what motivated her to come out of retirement?
It would be a tragedy if an injury sustained on an unsafe course kept her out of the Olympics. (I'm no expert, but "You can't see and it's bumpy everywhere" [Romane Miradoli] sounds unsafe for a Super-G to me).

Absolutely gutted for her. It's her "good" knee that she was clutching, not the one that was partially replaced in 2024. Can't see her coming back from that in time for the Olympics, or perhaps, at all.

I don't think there's any question that she's slightly nuts but in a very admirable "I don't care what you think" way. I love it. If you ever see any of her in depth interviews she comes across as totally sane and just living her best life as long as she can.
I would dearly love to see her pick up the downhill crown again and another Olympic gold would have been (I don't use this word lightly) legendary. I hope she can at least finish the season even if she can't make Cortina.

"She has some pain so it's better to have some checks, the physio did some checks they seemed OK but there were things he was not 100% sure so it was good to have it checked (at the hospital)," two-time Olympic champion Aksel Lund Svindal, Vonn's coach this season, told Reuters.
I sincerely hope she's ok for Cortina, and the rest of the season.

Hasn't she had 8 races and 7 podiums this season already, with a couple of wins?
A lot of skiers would be delighted with that over a career!
Genuinely hopes she makes it to Cortina in good shape.

Spoke to her at a company organised thing a few years back. She seemed much more normal than some of the comments on here about her would suggest. Jon Rahm was also there, I’ve no interest in golf but he was a really great bloke.

Speed event skiers have crashes and injury is a when not if. If Olympics were the main purpose of her comeback you have to question the decision making behind starting on a difficult/ dubious course so close to the main event.
Nevertheless I suspect if it is at all possible she'll drag herself to the Olympic start. Where's she going to get her social media capital for how brave and heroic she is otherwise?

Whereas "bottling it" would have been great preparation for the Olympics? She might have said, "glad I didn't do that, I might have got hurt" after they cancelled it, presumably still after 3 crashes.
That sounds like what Dave Brailsford didn't call "the accumulation of marginal losses".
No-one on Snowheads has an insight into how an athlete at LV's level approaches risk.

What a ludicrously prejudiced comment. She's currently leading the 2026 downhill standings by the skiing equivalent of a country mile and you think she's only doing that for social media?
She's the greatest downhill skier of all time, male or female, and still producing the goods at the age of 41.
You're the one who's trying to gain social media capital by posting antagonistic crap, not her.

Nah she's doing it because she couldn't find anything else to replace the competitive skiing shaped hole in her life. And she's done exceptionally well at the comeback even though the risk level was extremely high. But she always has been known as a drama queen - see the sniping about the team competition at last season's world champs. So fit or not you'd expect her to be all over the Olympics, helped of course by a US media machine that probably doesn't recognise that skiers like Johnson or Moltzan exist.
