A small delay on the tunnel is usually of no relevance as they just bump people.
When we were going out on Fri 19th everything was running 30 minutes late but we got on earlier train so left at our scheduled time.

I alway put an hour's delay in my travel plans at the tunnel as that appears to be the median delay. Once or twice we have been put on an earlier train.

I think that some people here need to realise that you will always have queues when it is busy.
Also, when there are issues in the Tunnel some of the UK based staff are unable to get to work at the French end.

And even when it isn't (i.e. when I travel!) I've never just driven straight onto a train. But except when it's very delayed it remains a beautifully fuss-free way of crossing the channel. For me it beats all that traipsing around on a ferry. Sit in comfy car seat, recline the back, shut eyes and rest. With your own choice of music or quiet. Drive off and straight onto the road. Magic!

I usually have a snooze or eat my lunch. Sometimes not pleasant when you are stuck in the boarding lanes in hot weather though. Not an ideal place to get the dogs out of the car either, as there's no shade, and no grassed area.

Very quiet today from Folkestone. A certain northern Snowhead was bumped forward by an hour.

Yep
We gained 1.5 hours thanks to the very efficient border guards and security chap whose only question was is the car automatic or manual!

No queues at all from Ashford this morning. Offered and earlier train, just enough time for the loo and drove straight through and onto the train. Not even swabbed, which is unusual

Travelled from Calais to Folkestone on the evening of the 1st January and the queue for a Quick burger (kid's insisted!) was longer than the queue for border control...both French and British.
Back from Folkestone last night, no queues at all and offered an earlier train.

@Layne, when the offer email dropped into my inbox, I had the momentary feeling off elation that i'd save money until I realised they never discount Easter holiday travel ... £425 for a normal car with a roof box and a pet! Jeez, might be cheaper to hire a private jet soon.

My experience yesterday was this. We had a standard ticket for 21:45 arrived at 16:30 at check in they asked if we wanted to pay £105 to get on the 17:46 or we could get booked onto the 19:31. We took the 19:31 but drove straight through the terminal to border control did the border checks and straight to the lanes and got the 17:15 train. The single deck part of the train was mostly empty.

@MAthert, Interesting to hear of some flexibility - we have largely switched to ferries, as nowadays the very cheapest DFDS tickets give 4 hours each side flexibility - means effectively that you always get put on the next ferry regardless - if the tunnel offered that consistently I might consider the extra cost.

@Hells Bells, I'm not sure if this is why there are capacity restrictions today, but when there are high winds, AIUI, the trains in Calais have to go more slowly as they are more exposed there.
