Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi,

We're off to grand bornand for new year. A fella at the grand bornand stall at the Birmingham ski show sewed the location seed in my head and mentioned one of the lifts was free! (realise snow condition might or might not allow) but does anyone know which one it is? Thinking about an easy first day toodle with the kids for free.

I'm sure it's one of the learner slopes, no? I think a few stations have that.

If you've never been to LGB, I prefer to start at the Chinaillon area a few kms or so to the north of the town center. I take the Chatelet lift then the Lac green traverse down to the Maroly or Terres Rouges (which, despite its name, goes to a bunch of blue slopes.) Chinaillon tends to be quite sunny and pleasant. I can't remember if the Floria lift stops at Lac or just goes to the top, but the upper slopes can get a bit treacherous if there hasnt been any fresh snow in a while. There are stunning views from the top of Chinaillon across to the Tete des Anes and a couple of nice picnic tables.

@Shipjack, The only free 'lifts' as far as I know are the beginners tow rope at the base of the Floria lift and the new carpet at the base of the Charmieux lift. Neither will allow you to do anything more than a couple of beginners turns. If you want to do an easy first day I think there is a lift pass option which is restricted and at a lower cost but will give you access to some nice runs - have a look on www.legrandbornand.com for all the ski pass options
