Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ishgl Recommendations

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi All, I'm off for an extremely late season trip to Ishgl on Saturday 22 April. Please can I have any recommendations for:
Bars lively or chilled
Piste restaurants for lunch
Ski shops (I'm brining my own gear but it is useful to know the best shop in case I need it)
Anywhere they may be selling off skis cheaply (I'm in the market for a new pair of freestyle skis after my old pair failed a binding safety test)
Any recommendations of where to ski in the resort (anywhere there is snow left I guess)
Any other recommendations

Thanks

Bars: I've never done Ischgl this late in the season and it can go randomly quite some weeks but in general the usual Ischgl rule applies - if the bar you're in isn't the vibe you're looking for, just go to the one next door and see if that fits! The main clusters of Austrian apres party bars are; by the bottom of the Pardatschgratbahn gondole/1A home run (Kitzloch/Niki's Stadl/Schatzi/Freeride), at the bottom of the Silvrettabahn gondola/1 home run (Fire & Ice/Kuhstall/Hexenkuche/a 4th I forget the name of) and 2nd turn, just the Galtur side of the Silvrettabahn gondola/1 home run and 3rd turn (Trofana Alm/Champagnerhutte). Then there are dozens of other bars dotted around that you'll pass just walking around town/between bars, and that's before you get to the hotel bars that are generally open to the public too (Trofana Royal worth a visit if you're feeling civilized one evening).

Piste Restaurants: Not sure any of them are actually bar, either quality of value. Certainly you want to hit Alp Bella for the rotisserie chicken and I really like Vider Alp ("j", just down from Idalp towards the 2a red/heading to C4 chair). I'm not sure how much fun the smugglers run to Samnaun will be in April, it's low and flat at the bottom and aften slusshy even in March but Samnaun's the one place where the foods only OK but expensive. There's a big restaurant with a large sun terrace - but we always just the little one just before/across the road from it as while the big one's busy you can normally walk in and get a table at the smaller one.

Ski shops: All much of a muchness really - both one quality and price! The only savings for hire kit are really Ski2Rent, tucked away down past the 'underground' car park entrance. For servicing I'd say the best options are likely to be either the skit storage locker place under the Fimbahbahn gondola (little hatch next to the lower lift entrance) or the service centre up the top of the Fimbahbahn/Silvrettabahn gondolas (on your left as you walk out onto the snow).

Cheap skis: You might get luckey but generally Ischgl ski sales are more about, at least back in the lots of Russians days, selling the most expensive skis you can so people who see you buying them know how much money you have.

I've ridden there closing weekend before now - later than this - but not since pre-Covid days. I'll be interested in the snow conditions as there's still a little time there.

Saas Fee was perfect last week above 2200m and from the look of it Ishgl will be similar. Although the lower runs look like they are going to be absolutely awful at the start of the week due to rain, I don't know if they will close the lower runs but I'm quite likely to be downloading rather than getting rained on!

Sounds promising. When I was there very late April some years ago you could ride to the village, but it was sloppy. I'd not personally depend on that working, but there's plenty higher up. I'll probably end up in Sölden which closes Monday 1 May, weather permitting.

I'm there (well, Kappl anyway) till Sat 22nd. I'm not the best to ask for bar recommendations, but for piste restaurants my favourite options are the salad buffet and chips at Idalp Panorama or Hollboden, or pizza at Hollboden or Schwarzwand.

Snow conditions are very good still, though it looks like it's about to get warmer on Saturday. The recent weather has been a mix of snowy days and clearer days, with snow down pretty much to resort level. The snow off-piste on the higher north-facing slopes has stayed fresh for a day or so. Almost all runs are open and in decent condition (pistes 7a and 80a are shut, as are half the itineraries, but pretty much everything else is open)

@Henwc, a small group of four of us will be in Ischgl from Tuesday next week if you fancy meeting up for a beer or lunch?

@Henwc, a quieter beer experience is the Golden Eagle, not far from Silvretta. Its more of an english pub vibe but decent music.

@phil_w, best to check the Sölden dates. I think only the glacier area is open after the 23rd April.

My friend has been in Sölden since last weekend and he said it's deserted. Many bars and restaurants are closed (maybe they'll open at the weekend).

If you're downloading there are a load of lockable ski racks at the top of the Fimba/Silvretta. Might be worth checking out as why carry if you don't have to...

Not sure I'd have called the Eagle quiet - though is nice to escape the apres pop for some rock once in a while.

Probably the quietest (non hotel bar) beer is Kiwi Bar, 2min up the hill on top of the Eagel.

@Mjit, Whilst I've only been to Ischgl for one week, it was quiet (by comparison to the other bars) the 6 nights we went there Laughing

Proved correct - everything except the glacier closed today and Obergurgl closed too. Pity, I'd say they could have on a bit. Lucky I saw your post as I was considering it!

Hi All, The trip went very well, the snow was excellent until Friday when it rained quite high up and we decided to leave early. The town was very quiet although we checked out the Eagle bar. We stayed in on Tuesday to get an early night for the powder day on Wednesday which was lovely.
