Poster: A snowHead
|
Afternoon!
Looking for recommendations please.
When: Easter 2024
Who: family of 4.
Parents intermediate / advanced skiers / snowboarder + 2 kids who have skied before age 11 & 7.
Preference to be as close to piste / lifts / ski school meet ups
Love to have pool &/or hot tub
Obvs as it’s Easter Prefer to be high / as snow sure as possible
Not bothered if catered or self catered, chalet, apartment or hotel.
Last time we went skiing as a big group, self catered in chalet Nichol in La Tania with Tony & Julie McMahon of Family Ski. And kids had fabulous lesssons with Matt and Chris of SnowLimits.
Snow Limits and FamilY Ski we’re both brilliant. I highly recommend.
However OH does not want to do another holiday like that as he is a do-er and ends up doing more than his fair share.
So this time we need catered or self catering but just us!!
I’ve looked at Club Med Peisey-Vallandry and I’m tempted. But conceded if ESF are any good there. (Poor experience previously and an absolute fabulous experience with Snow Limits who were excellent with my free spirited and independent kids!!!!)
So. Any recommendations would be really appreciated!

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Obertauern would be a good shout. It's high and will have as good a snow as anywhere in the Alps. Ischgl also but not ski in and ski out but that's not really an issue there

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks. Who would you recommend as a travel agent? Or do you have specific accommodation in mind that could be booked direct?

Tignes Le Lac? Terrific pool and sports centre. Endless high altitude skiing. Plenty of non-ESF ski schools. Don't know it well enough to recommend specific ski in/out accommodation.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

The Radisson Blu at Trysil, or the Skistar Lodge Trysil (FormerRadisson Blu Mountain Resort & Residences) but its not as ski in ski out as the former.

Hameau Kashmir, VT would tick all the boxes. Also recommend Roc Belle Face in Arcs 1600 for a cheaper option - esf at 1600 used to have very good rates for private instructors too. Done both several times at Easter, would go with the former on balance for a swankier experience, better location wrt the skiing, and extra bit of snow sureness.

@pam w, Tignes Le Lac for an easy stroll to the pool.
Also Les Arc 1800 has a great pool/sports centre.

We're going to Les Arcs at Easter (first week, arriving Easter Saturday).
We are staying in an apartment in the Alpage du Chantel residences. This is uphill from the lifts/ski school, so is ski in/ski out and will remove the need to walk along the flat and uphill to get to the ski school meet point. There's a dedicated lift to take residents back from the lower slopes (Dahu).
It has a pool in the complex, and there's also a public pool in 1800, literally feet from Dahu.
My two boys are 10 and 12 now and could be described as free-spirited. We used Evolution 2 in 1800 and they were excellent with them. They have a maximum group number of 8, and lessons are conducted in English. From the Chantel residences, you can take the private slope directly to the lesson meet point. We plan to use them again on our Easter visit.

Skiing around 1800 can get a bit slushy by midday at Easter, but up in the 1950/2000 bowl, it was fantastic right up to the lifts closing. Skiing over at Peisey was lovely in the mornings.
Staying in 1800 sort of sticks you right in the middle of Les Arcs, so it's really easy to access all of the other villages and runs. Forêt Pitchouns over in P-V is particularly good fun with the family.
We went for the first time this Easter on a recommendation on here as we have similar requirements to you. We absolutely fell in love with it and can't wait to return.

https://www.central-flachau.com/en/holiday-resort.html Great for kids and they ski free after mid-March. Short transfer from Salzburg and 20% saving on lunches on the Mountain compared to France. Most slopes N facing. We've skied every year we've been here until Mid April with runs always open to the bottom of the valley.

@SirCharles
I've been to the ClubMed at Peisey-Vallandry and it definitely meets all your requirements. It's actually one of my favourite ClubMed's.
When we've gone with a friend and her teen son - he loved the classes with ESF. I think they put some of the better instructors onto the kids classes. As for you and LadyCharles; you can always just use the ESF instructors as ski guides
