Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Valmenier advice

I’ll be going to Valmeinier in a couple of weeks for the first time. I know almost nothing about the resort. Would anyone in the know give me any pointers in terms of good places to eat, best pistes (generally blues and reds are my bag), any dos and don’ts you can think of etc?

Do a forum search on Valloire - there's quite a lot of information.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

If you are driving, then there is a super U in St Jean de Maurienne. That is prob your last chance of a decent sized supermarket.

On the Dutch forum, this year a massive thread on Valmeinier experiences. Just paste the URL into Google Translate, and voilà. Take your time, over 300 entries...

I went there last winter with my wife and 12 YO very sportive son. I went to practically all the large EU areas (3V, Tignes, Plagne, SC, Verbier, St Anton etc). I was very very very positively surprised.

Regarding slopes. Sandoniere all the way down is a nice thigh burner, 1100m vertical. Armera is phenomenal, because of views. The blacks from cretaz to Valloire, nice gradient wide and quiet.

I should have added, I have only been over to Valmenier once & ate the burger bar - was a pretty basic meal! I liked the slopes on that side, but Valloire as a place trumps Valmeinier, as one is a proper town, while the other is purpose built ski accomodation. Lots of cruising easy blues & greens. The reds are not that challenging and most are quite short. Its a nice area if you want something chilled & relaxing. The fun is discovering it yourself. It is not a very big area after all. Just a PITA to get to Laughing

Not very long? You must be joking.

Lots of descents with 900-1000 vertical metres, like Montissot with fast detachable 6 seater for fast uphill.

Most resorts have 700 hm maximum.

Well, to me they dont feel very long. Rose is easily one of my favourite runs anywhere. Also liked the newest Red on Valmeinier side, but have do not really have much experience on that side of the mountain.

It proves skiing is like Marmite as Valmeinier is the one resort I have been to that I would not pay to go back to. I thought it offered little in terms of going out quality or quantity. The skiing was a bit underwhelming, although I did like Valloire - charming real town.
I think the Maurienne has better places like the Sybelles and Val Cenis. It was cheap though.
But, the important thing here is that all opinions differ

I think most of the positive comments have been about Valloire rather than the Valmeinier bit of the resort.

Love Valmeinier, pretty resort, good skiing, snow sure and no long lift queue's in half term. Would recommend pizza le rock and les lauzes restaurant in the upper village.
