Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Which Flachau ski school?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
We are going to Flachau in February and starting to think about ski school options for our daughter who will turn 4 while we are there. We are familiar with the area and staying in Radstadt but likely to be doing most of our skiing in Flachau. She will most likely do half days, and we are just wondering which people think is the best option for young kids in the area?

It's a while since we went there (2017 iirc) but we used Fischis - a large group of us with children age ranges about 5-12 and all were well catered for, all 1- about 6 week skiers, there was one who was much better than the others and had their own equipment who used a different ski school but seem to remember Fishchis did an euiqpment inclusive rate. We did 3 x full days so had some time with the children at the end of the week.

@Skimama, well there is a Flachau skischool run by Hermann Maier: https://www.skischule-hermann-maier.at/de/kinderskikurse-flachau.html

We used Fischis and we were unimpressed. Very poor response to a request and then subsequent complaint.

Sport am Jet https://www.sportamjet.at/ is the only ski school in Flachau that has a dedicated beginners area on the mountain, located at the top of the Achter Jet Gondola. They will probably have all English Speaking Group lessons through February. If not then the Junior Instructors all speak English so a mixed group won't be a problem. It does mean that you won't have to come all the way down to pick her up when the lesson ends and if she's had enough then the Gondola gives you a good option for the way down. They also have private lessons with English Instructors if you ask nicely.

We were with @always29 on that trip and our son (8 yrs old and about 8 weeks of experience at the time) was the one with Herman Maier ski school. It was a bit of a scrum 1st thing in the morning (1/2 term week) to get up to the meeting point at the top of the Achterjet lift but he buddied up with another lad and was more than happy going to ski-school every day. Maybe for younger and less experienced kids you should follow @always29's suggestion if they're more geared for younger kids and a bit more easy going.

Thanks for all the info, I didn’t say in my original post we are going Monday to Monday of half term week. Is starting on a Tuesday going to present a problem? Just looked at sport am jet and Herman Maier and they both only offer Sunday or Monday starts through their online booking.

@Skimama, Sport am Jet will let you join on the Tuesday, but she may have to start in a lower group then you might like. The problem is that with a class starting on day X, the rules prohibit the instructor from taking them too far from home until a proper asseessment has been made. If you then get new kids the following day, then the whole group is back under the same remit. This week, due to the holiday timetables, we had 40 new kids join on Wednesday. Chaotic but we managed by pulling favours across the resort in order not to disrupt the "weekend starters".

Thanks for the info, This will be her first time in ski school - she skied for five days last winter with me and her Granny mostly on the baby slopes at Haiser Kaibling but that was more playing than anything, so would expect her to be in the “bottom” group anyway!
