Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Doesn’t it just!! Bravo @mountainaddict

On the parking front - I had no issues with the new system buying resident’s parking (confirmed next working day).
They clearly didn’t consider hire cars - numpties.

Can I use Indigo Neo with a rental car ?
5 months ago Updated
Of course you can ! Just add the license plate number in your Indigo Neo account, but make sure to add an end-of-rental date for this vehicle.

To do this, go to "My Account" and "My Vehicles", you can modify an existing vehicle or add a new one. On the relevant vehicle page, check "Rental or sale vehicle" and enter the end date and time. It will be automatically deleted on this date.

I believe at this point that can be the only answer!

It isn't even possible to enter a placeholder reg and update it on the day, as the only way to update a booking is to cancel it and rebook. The mind boggles.

May I ask how do you cancel your booking? I have a reservation from 1/12 - 4/12 but I am no longer going to Val d. It's in Car park 0. I have browsed the website but can't seem to find a way to cancel my booking except emailing them?

Thanks for sharing; I did read that, although when attempting to purchase, the vehicle registration is mandatory and they state this cannot be modified Puzzled

I haven't done so personally, although this is their support article that leads me to believe it is possible:

You cannot edit a booking, but you can easily cancel the first one for free and purchase a new one with the correct informations. You can cancel your reservation up to 1h before it starts and you will be fully refunded. Go to your account on the website or in the app and simply click on Cancel Button.

I found out why I can't cancel that easily now, I booked directly on the Val D parking website instead of through Indigo. This might be why. I have emailed Val D to see if it can be cancelled and refunded. Thanks!

Fantastic snow conditions top to bottom in Tignes today for our first downhill day of 2022-23 here. Any skiing is good after the conditions up to about two weeks ago but there was a
disappointing amount of runs and lifts open in the Grande Motte sector today.

I know that it's been pre-season price of €32 a day up to today but it just felt like they hadn't made too much effort. Worst of all, the run down from the glacier to the bottom of Vanoise Chair was closed. The Vanoise Chair was closed too - with not even any sign of chairs on the cable. This was despite the run down to the chair being perfectly pisted. As a result, the only way to exit the glacier was by taking the funicular down. However, we saw loads of people skiing the closed run, so we did too.

To cap it all off, after we skied down to Val Claret at about 12.00, the funicular was closed - big banners across the entrance showing Fermée. Although information earlier in the day showed the last run of the Grande Motte cable car as about 2.00pm, there was no way to get there once the funi closed. So were stuck with only Les Lanches Chair and Double M run for the rest of our skiing.

It will be interesting to see what is actually open on the first day of winter season proper tomorrow. Not too much I fancy.

We still had a great ski today (great snow and quiet slopes) but IMO it was a poor show on the part of the lift company Confused

Does anybody know if skinning up early before the lifts turn (say 6am) is permissible in Tignes? I quite fancy a sunrise ski, but not if there is any by-law against doing so.

@valdorange, Its all a bit of a muddle and depends who you ask! Practically, people do start skinning from first light, but they do advertise bans when avalanche work is on. The piste basher drivers can get a bit testy if you get in the way, certainly if they are using a winch. Best advice would be to follow a local. If you use the dedicated skinning track up Palafour you are unlikely to encounter opposition, apart from avalanche control days.

@valdorange, Normally on the local radio and on the Tignes App. Radio Val website is good too, if they are banging away it's likely Tignes will be.

Yeah, hopefully Palafour and Grand Huit or Replat to complete the loop. All those lifts keep skiers from escaping to Val before they open (unless you go for a short skin!)

I skin up frequently in the mornings for exercise and the pleasure of skiing down on empty pistes with no background noise. I never set off on pistes in the dark though, as whatever the regulations, it's only fair that piste basher drivers and pisteurs can see you. That does limit what can be done early in the season. Plus it's cold! My aim is always to reach the top of a lift and be ready to ski down before the lift starts running. As chocksaway has said, blasting can be an issue and the pisteurs are normally in place just after dawn.

I've never had a problem with basher drivers but move well out of their way as soon as I see them in the area. Pisteurs so far have been fine, but do make the effort to greet them. Sometimes they will stop to check where I'm heading for and that I'm aware that lifts will be opening soon. My main routes are all based on starting on Palafour.

The Val d’Isere issued season passes worked in Tignes today Very Happy

We parked in Lac 2 then up the Paquis chair and down into Val Claret and up Lanches to the Grande Motte. The avenue linking the top of the Lanches chair down to Vanoise doesn’t exist yet, its just a rock field in places.
Grattalu and Lac were nice if a little solid in places but remember the rope tow isn’t on, Anemone still had grass poking through with a lot of rocks and really needs more snow.
Generally a nice few hours and good to back on skis and not as busy as I expected.

Before I go hunting round the internet, presumably supermarkets are open on Christmas eve?

We're travelling down to Tignes on Friday 23rd Dec, looking at a c.7pm ferry, and will drive about as far as Troyes on that evening.
We'll then set off c.9am on Saturday 24th Dec, and the plan is to stop off in BSM at Lidl or Super U around 2/3pm.

Will the shops still be open then?

@swskier, I always stop for shopping at Super U in Moutiers. It's on the road.
You'll get there sooner and it's bigger plus more special deals I presume.
I have no idea at what time they close on 24 in the afternoon but I just read on another chain' s Facebook page (Supermarche Casino in Moutiers) that last year they were open till 18:30.

Good old Indigo Parking rolling eyes After parking in Golf car park for a few hours this afternoon, we couldn't pay the fee at the barrier - three credit cards between Mrs MA and me were rejected. All came up on the payment machine as invalid, which is not the case. We've used two of the cards no bother on the current trip.

The man in the office was most bemused. Despite his best efforts, the cards still wouldn't work. He said he couldn't take cash - so ended up apologising and letting us off with the fee.

On another parking-related note, does anyone know why the Tignes website appears to be not showing any free parking spots nowadays? It did (Les Brevieres, Les Boisses and Tignes 1800) last time I looked a while ago. Do these free places still exist?

Indeed... and trying to get some myself. Successful on that front having collected card and sticker for Golf today. Looks like lots of new machinery installed at the barriers so expect teething issues as already mentioned by @mountainaddict. I didn't have to scan the card to get in, the barrier just lifted up magically - looked like there was an ANPR camera on the ceiling.

Tomorrow I'll try getting out again (!) and drive around as many parking areas as I can to read what's posted up at the various entrances.

Everyone I speak to bemoans the state of the parking admin. But I should mention that the staff at the main office were polite, helpful and efficient.

Parking at Golf with a hire car - the booking site Indigo says that it is full for February half term week as are all carparks in Tignes. Have I left it too late or are they all genuinely full for that week? If so does anyone have an alternative that I could consider? Arriving on Sunday 19th Feb leaving on Friday the 24th.

@james75, When I persuaded my phone to go to the general Indi-nogo website (presumably cookies were sending me to the season pass section) it said no car parks were available at all. I would wait, the car parks are never full except the 2 weeks over Xmas/Ny and the Feb hols and generally for Feb booking before Xmas is OK. Ultimately, they will squeeze everyone into Tignes in Feb as they invoke a manual street parking system, not ideal but pragmatic.

Hi all,

Considering hiring an indie camper from Geneva and driving to Tignes. Heard you can park in Tignes Les Brevieres and stay there overnight. But have also read on the internet that you’re “not allowed” to camp during the winter?

Have read some reviews online saying that the indie camper vans are really good in the winter.

Would love some advice on whether I risk it and get an indie camper from Geneva and then just find somewhere to camp and potentially use the car parks during the day and find a secret spot to hide overnight or if we do Airbnb or a dreaded package deal Eh oh!

@rhiannanwinters, excerpt from front page of https://en.tignes.net/holidays/car-parks: WARNING - In winter camper vans are not allowed in the whole resort!

That includes Brev but there were some side spots along the road along the valley floor from the decheterie into Brev by the processing plant but I’m 100% sure they’ll be strictly policed (or gendarmed). I’d steer well clear of attempting to camper-van in Tignes area.

Last winter in Val d’Isere there was camper overnighting after the Spar on the way out to Fornet - directly opposite the Gendarmerie ;o) in the fields by the Étable d’Alain resto/bar.

@Grinning, There's quite often a proper "overlander" ex military looking camper in a field or paddock on the left before you reach the Laissenant chairlift. I've always thought that they must have an agreement with the farmer/land owner.

@rhiannanwinters, There is a proper camper site by the roadside as you exit Bourg st Maurice. But you would have the added expense of hook-up fees, plus fuel costs and possibly parking charges every day.

A few years back we knew a guy who was working in 1800/Boisses. (I think the old Melezes) He had shoe-horned his van into a space down the side of the chalet and was letting a ski-bum mate kip in it. They'd run an extension lead from the Kitchen into the van to power a little a heater. All good until late one night someone unplugged the lead so they could use a toaster and didn't plug the lead back in. The poor lad in the van who was probably sleeping off a few beers was lucky to wake up the next morning Skullie .

Thanks for the detailed parking update bobski62. All very helpful.

Shame we'd moved our car to the Blondin car park about 4pm yesterday, before I'd read the parking information last night! As a result we got the 9am bus back down there this morning, to move the car to the Gde. Motte pay car park.

Fortunately the car hadn't been towed away and we didn't get a parking ticket. However, I have to say, there are no signs whatsoever at the Blondin car park to explain any restrictions. There were only about 10 cars there and none appeared to be displaying any kind of permit.

One car had a warning notice on it from yesterday as it was (allegedly) blocking snow clearing. It didn't appear to be doing so, so must've just been a jobsworth inspector. Interestingly, the warning notice still shows all the old free parking spots!

In my opinion, it's an outrage what they are charging for parking. It must be dearer than Vail and Whistler! A minimum of €19 a day Shocked Why do they have to completely screw the punters? We're back here for 11 nights in January - and looking at over €200 for parking. What a joke Evil or Very Mad
