Hi all,
We are heading back to St. Foy in March two of the party are looking at getting some new boots. Both have humalumpesque feet, so the skills of the bootfitter will be truly tested! Ideally, we would like it in the village, so as it is a quick return to get mods done etc. and then back up the mountain again.
Thanks in advance

There may well be a good Bootfitter in St Foy....but if you don't get a recommendation, you might consider getting over to VDI and book in with Bruno at Killy Sports.
I think there is a bus you can get. It will be a torture, but might be worth it to get a good fit. This is likely to be a 12-15 year investment, so best to get it right. Maybe combine it with a day's skiing in Espace Killy, where the boots can be tried.
I agree it is not ideal.
I wonder how good the Bootfitter in S&R (Dublin) actually is?

@Dublinfella, La Grange Ski in the nearby LaRosiere - very reputable bootfitter works there.

@Old Fartbag, Thanks - yeah, I had thought about VDI but ideally would try to avoid it. As for Dublin option, I don't like the idea of not being able to get tweaks done when on the snow. As you say, 12 year investment, so best to get them right from the start, especially as there are some challenging feet to deal with.
@mooney058, Thanks - if that is the option (a bit closer than VDI) is there anyone, in particular, we should look for?
Thanks

@Dublinfella, there is one guy doing it in La Grange. His wife/partner runs the shop. Booking is needed. Will look up his name. Did my sons boots last Feb - everything was spot on. He is one of those bootfiting whisperers type
Edit: found the name - Jocelyn Pillet, La Grange Ski. Same as in VDI, you can enjoy a day there and even nip to IT for a coffee
Edit2: I think getting to VDI might be faster than to La Rosiere or very similar indeed.

There isn't any practical way to get between Sainte Foy and either Val d'Isere or La Rosiere unless you have a car. Theoretically, it's possible to take the shuttle bus down to the main road and then a bus up to Val, but the timetables make it pretty pointless. Car or taxi the only sensible ways to do it.
The teams at ZigZags and at SkiSet are super-helpful, but not sure that they offer a specialist bootfitting service.
I personally go to a dude up in Tignes Val Claret.

I can never remember if it's Skimium or Sport 2000 in the centre of VC (there are 2 identical buildings with very similar shops on the corner!). Think it's Skimium.

Thank you - do you have the name of the Bootfitter?
The reason I ask, is I will be in Le Lac with my Daughter, who needs boots. My "go to" Bootfitters have either retired or left Tignes. Tignes Spirit has been recommended, but I always like a backup, if it saves a trip to VDI.

Scratch that, a quick check on Google Streetview and it's actually SkiSet (to be fair, they all have red branding!). This one: https://sportski2100.com/boots-fitting/principe/
The guy's name is Michel Richermoz . Don't hesitate to ask for him if your daughter has major issues, but all his staff are very well-trained.
Had excellent service from him both for myself and a couple of friends. Seen him bin a brand-new set of custom insoles (that he'd already cut and fitted) because he didn't think it was working out best for the customer. Definitely really focussed on getting it right for you.
Be warned though, when you're stood on the heat-moulding platform for half an hour, the TV screen opposite will play "the gallery of horrors" rather than a ski movie or similar!

Yes, the one in the centre by the Hotel Curling. Smell of feet very possible if it's been damp snow and there are many boots on the drier!

You know it makes sense.

@stevomcd, Final questions:
- Can you confirm whether they did a Shell Check - which for me is a "must" and the sign of a Bootfitter that knows what they are doing?
- Is Michael himself the best person to ask for to do the fitting?
Apologies to OP for hijacking the thread.

@Old Fartbag, yes, definitely did a shell check. Michel himself is the man for sure, although, as above, he's got his staff well-trained.
Disclaimer though: I'm a snowboarder! He was still brilliant though, very open about what he could / couldn't do with snowboard boots as opposed to ski boots. Even loaned me a pair of super-soft rental boots to use for a week to let my feet recover enough to go back to my own (super-stiff and newly re-moulded/insoled) boots.

@stevomcd, You have been super helpful
Miss Fartbagette will need to hire until she gets fitted - which hopefully won't be too long.

Thanks all. We will have a car but kids too, so less keen to head for a drive but let's see.
The guys in zigzags were super helpful this year so will check with them too.
Thanks again

I got my first fitted pair circa 10y ago. Was staying in St Foy and headed to Tignes La Lac to JoJo (now retired). For a specialist service would choose a specialist. If your appointment is in the evenning then drive solo to either VDI, Tignes or La Rosiere. If it is in the morning, take your family with you.
While they have their breakfast or ski for an hour or so you will get your boots. An extra 45 min or so driving while you are ao close to experts is nothing. Especially if you need some proper adjustments

12 to15 year investment?
Really?
What about the plastic fatigue reported on other threads?

Used once a year and kept in the dark for the rest of the year - I have found that to be the case. Others may have found different. I believe the composition of modern plastics are also better in this respect.

This may sound extreme but I'd be driving to chamonix, there's several world class boot fitters there, who will get it right. One who posts here regularly, his partner in crime fitted me and my wife, we drove 2hrs from another resort to get fitted, when I've killed these boots off i'll base a ski trip to get fitted by sole lab again.
