Here's the carte for the Chez Simon on-piste café/restaurant up the mountain on the LTZ side of the Savoleyres sector. My favourite is the croute aux champignons at CHF 20 / £18 - that's two thick slices of toast knee-deep in a rich mushroom sauce that's about 14.5x10⁶ calories. They also do a 6-course meal, pre-booked or if you're staying overnight for CHF 68 / £61 plus air ambulance evacuation after the likely subsequent heart failure.
I suspect that the Le Pub bar and creperie is likely to be a bit cheaper than the rather more up-market Le Blanc. But I can't find any prices on their web page. The bar is by the ice-rink in the main square, underneath the Hotel de la Poste. Looks like it's closed mondays and tuesdays.
The Papill'on is a bistro so the drinks list is more oriented to those dining there.
The Auberge La Tzoumaz is a nice restaurant but does also do a take-away menu. The wine list reflects that this is a 'proper' restaurant, albeit unpretentious.
Somewhat hidden underneath the Papill'on restaurant is the Pascal Traiteur shop, which when we were there last season, did very reasonable take-away pizzas and pre-cooked meals. It's also a retail grocery shop specialising in local produce and wines. I think that some of the chalets direct clients there for providing pre-ordered catered meals.

@BbqBob Take a look at the MeteoSwiss site or app and enter your destination name or postcode. The forecast only goes as far as +5 days. For La Tzoumaz (Post code ‘1810’) at 1500m it’s forecast to get colder with some snow: Night/day on Monday -3°/+1° with 21mm snow, Tuesday -3C°/0°C and 11mm snow. Both site and app have a weather animation but only 48h ahead. Higher up the pattern is similar but a bit colder but if you take Zermatt as an example, not as much snow for some reason (17mm Sunday through Tuesday).
For your trip, I'd say it's worth downloading the MeteoSwiss app before you go and then you can get it to give you alerts as well. I find the 48hr animated snow forecast is useful in giving a better idea of the direction and strength of any snowfalls.

@BobinCH some advice please, we’re in the PdS for a few days next week and we might venture out to Verbier for a day if we get a break in the weather. We have a car. Is parking at Le Chable our best option? Thank you.

@franga, having skied Verbier last year, yes Le Chable is best, as that is the car park AND the bubble up, which if you have skis and have a pass you can then go direct to the slopes.

|
|
|
@franga, there is, I am sure, a lift pass office at le Chable, and it is definitely a good plan.

@franga, yep there is a big, free car park in Le Châble, next to the gondola, with overflow up the valley. If you have an old Verbier pass you can charge it up online. Otherwise there is a lift pass office there. I would imagine it will be much less busy next week but if it’s a bluebird, powder day don’t be surprised if the car park fills up quickly!

@franga Here's the Le Chable car park and associated SBB rail station and télépherique up to Verbier.
If coming from Martigny, you'll arrive on the road on the bottom right, and go across the roundabout down to the complex, which includes an SBB railway station and bus stops (gosh, an integrated public transport system!). This image is a bit out of date, as the rail platforms are now inside their own building so passengers can transfer under cover. Inside the round building there are gondolas going in opposite directions: up to Médran in Verbier and opposite, up to the Bruson ski slopes. The round building also contains the Mt. Fort Lodge hostel which you may have seen referenced on other threads. The Verbier lift runs until quite late in the evening.
If you are in Verbier on a busy day and the pistes get too congested in the afternoon, you might consider coming back down and going across to the Bruson sector, which is quite pleasant and often quieter. Most people who've taken the trouble to drive/train to Le Chable will - as you'd expect - go up to Verbier.

Our last day of a week long break.
Amidst all the Doom Gloom coverage in the press and TV it has got to be said that Televerbier have once again done an incredible job.
Pistes are perfectly good from Top to Bottom.
The only lift I can think of that's not running is Le Rouge, but even that has snow to ski down, just none on the drag track to go up.
Purists may not like a base of man made, but it does the job and with only a cm or two of fresh on top it is fun all day.
Off piste is not so good obviously, but still some fun to be had in many of the usual spots.
I believe that next week should see some reasonable amounts of fresh which will be most welcome.
If you are agonizing about coming or.not...come.

What a day. Started snowing in Nendaz at 7.30 and is still snowing now, big flakes. Will make a massive difference, obviously, as below about 2000 metres yesterday it was a bit sketchy. The only concern is it’s a bit mild still - it was -1 at Plan de Fou at 4pm when we were coming home. Great short trip.

I can confirm that it was indeed!!
Fresh tracks this morning in 30ish cm....it was great!! Got tracked out pretty quickly tho but this morning was really enjoyable.
@BobinCH : forecast is for another 20cm tonight...would you still be suggesting Bruson for tmrw? (never been over there) or get up to Mt Fort as early as we can from LA Tzoumaz and then try the freeride itineraries if they're open? It would be 1 skiier and 3 boarders exploring...

It’s getting colder and I think the snow is coming with wind in which case the trees will be better and Bruson would be a great shout. There are lots of routes through the trees which all end up on the fire trail which brings you back to the piste - don’t go below it unless you know where you are going!

@BobInCH In imgur you can also select [Sizes: Original ● Small Square ● ...... ● Large Thumbnail ● Huge Thumbnail] at the bottom of the image viewer before you [Copy] the BBCode link. Selecting the Large or Huge Thumbnail usually gives a reasonable sized image. Malheuresement, the SnowHeads software platform is not as sophisticated as more modern ones that re-scale pictures in proportion to the device and viewing frame in use.

Random question on lift passes, do they 'start' later the day before i.e. if I want to sneak out for a couple of runs when i arrive in the afternoon but my pass doesn't start until the next day does it let you on for a couple of hours ? Some places do and not been to verbier forever (and looking forward to it). Equally if anyone wants a beer the week of the 22nd I am there solo on a course.
EDIT: I've found a statement that says "Passes of 3 days or more are valid from 3PM the day before your start date." - anyone confirm this ?

@orange, Must confess I've never heard of anywhere that allowed that? And valid from 3pm doesn't give you a lot of time to do anything. I suspect if true, it's to facilitate transport of late afternoon arrivals up from Le Chable?

Yeah it's actually quite common if you go digging, i'd get 75 mins which would be enough to shake out the legs and check a couple of things - I'm trying to ski in a new set of Zipfits !
