Poster: A snowHead

I've been offered well priced deals to Les Orres, Crest Volland, Notre Dame, Valloire and Brides Le Bains for the w/e of 26/27 March, direct from Belfast. Its not often you get cut price deals from here - you 'mainlanders' don't know how lucky you are!! I know nothing of any of these resorts & would be particularily concerned about lack of snow at that time of year. I'm a confident(?!) red run skier & desperately want to squeeze another week in this season. All help/opinion gratefully received.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Les Orres is pretty far south and you might find the snow conditions poor in late March, a friend of mine who lives in Provence and skis some of the smaller stations within a couple of hours drive, has told me that the snow has been melting very quickly lately. Don't know Crest Volland or Notre Dame but Bride Les Bains is a small town at the bottom of the Trois Vallees. Ther's a gondola from there to Meribel, I think, it's about a 20 minute journey and you'd have to take it to get back. If you don't minc that inconvenience I'd say that would give you the best skiing and because you're in a valley town your eating/drinking expenses would be less. You could check out the French Tourist Office website they have a list of resorts that you've never heard of,

Search this forum for a thread called Crest Valonde in the Resorts section. Max altitude is 1600m so I wouldn't have thought it's what you're after

Valloire is a nice resort linked to Valmenier. Skied it at Xmas and the link between the two resorts was a real pain because of lack of snow....chair down hill, chair down and up valley, chair up other side - good half an hour! I would think that that might be a problem at the other end of the year too but if the snow is good it'd be worth a visit, small resort but quite nice.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

The only thing I know about Notre Dame is that it's a popular destination for school trips. My daughter went there last year and reckoned it was a little down at heel and dull - but that is probably more to do a teenager's outlook on things to be honest.

From Brides you can get by bubble all the way to the top of Tougnette and thus access all the 3 Vallees high stuff. It would be around half an hour's trip, but the day is long in March. You can also get up Saulire from Meribel.
Should be plenty of snow left.
