Anyone in Les Arcs next week and want to share a guide?
Alternatively can anyone recommend any off piste course?

A good day today despite the light. Snow is pretty good on and off piste. A perfect opportunity for skiing in the trees around Vallandry and 1600.

@sbooker, Hi, i'm up for sharing a guide or skiing or boarding with others off piste if the snow comes as it should.
Would you be looking to board or ski?

I’m a skier. My lad boards.
I’m not hardcore and can’t do gnarly steeps sorry.

@sbooker, ha, i prefer to board off piste (although i'm a better skier) and am here all season and dont really know all the best off piste routes so happy to join if they do mixed ski and board guides.
Monday or Tuesday or Weds looks good. If you want to get a price, i'll be up for it.

Are you there this week or next? I'll be there next week (21st) with the misses but she doesn't do off piste! I would also be keen to do some back country. Have reciever shovel etc.

@Triggahippy, This week sorry.
@Libertine, I’m babysitting a boarder with a sore head as the result of a crash today. Will be with him taking it easy on piste today. I’ll come back to you for tomorrow if you’re around.

@sbooker, Hardly any new snow in PV, viz was really bad above the tree line and the conditions under Derby on piste were not good. Must have rained more than I thought, so called it a day today going to watch Maverick by the fire !!!. Tomorrow will hopefully have some fresh if you want to meet up. Not sure how the viz will be again though but i'll be out.

Interesting day yesterday, ok in the am, at least on the runs we did from 1800 and across to Vallendry and back, but the afternoon was a complete white out

Area closed at the moment apparently, when do you think it’ll open up today?

You know it makes sense.

@viciousvulture, They normally get some lifts running for usual opening times. I suspect most higher links will be shut, as a load more snow is about to roll in. A good day to ski the trees in 1600 or peisey.

@timlongs, thanks, we were planning on doing the runs in 1600 today as we’ve not done that area yet. I must say it’s been a tough few days for us out in 2000 so far

@viciousvulture, Yep, not a fun place to be when the weather is like this. Jump on the bus to 1600 and lap the Mont Blanc chair (hopefully they open it, it's sometimes a bit slower to open as there is a slope above they do avy control on).

@timlongs, I’m hopeful they’ll open up Comberciere which seems to have remained open throughout the last couple of days.
But without Transarc 2, getting back isnt so fun. Yesterday we had to take the Edelweiss at the top of Carreley which was full on blizzard with 10m visibility! Not sure if there is another way…

@viciousvulture, Comberciere will definitely open first, from there you can ski straight back down to 1600 and do some laps. Fastest way back from 1600 is get on the Arpette chair, and head down from there, take the rope tow and you'll get back to Arcabulle then can ski down from there. May be a bit grim in a whiteout, I'd take the bus!

Gulp - any more info on conditions in PV? Coming out in 4 days - last time wrecked 3 pairs skis on 3 successive days. Surely not like that??? Bottom part of Morey was 'get off & walk' - unless you had a bottomless pocket - or a bucket load of Ptex candles.
I have been watching the ever-decreasing snow forecasts, but had hoped for at least some decent cover/quality even back down to the village.
Any info would be useful - we are already loaded up with kitchen sink, snowshoes &/or ice skates can always be found space for

Loads of bombing this morning, wind has decreased, snow is switching between big flakes and small flurries. Best thing this morning is it's coming straight down not horizontally.
There's loads of snow and more coming

@kapt, Dont worry, Les Arcs has faired pretty well. PV is totally fine to ski back to Peisey or Vallandry, I was just hoping for powder but wasn;t to be yesterday and I dont really enjoy boarding on hard pistes with low viz. Had I been on Ski's it would have been fine. You'll have a great stay, chucking it down with big light snow right now will sort the pistes out with the cold temps too.
I'll be out later once more has fallen in PV as viz still low so better in the trees.

There were some posts on the Tignes thread about picnic rooms around Espace Killy, I was wondering if there are any around les Arcs? Usually I eat a baguette in a scenic area such as top of arpette looking over the 200o bowl but its looking pretty chilly next week when I'm there so thinking any sheltered picnic areas would be handy? Anyone going next week, piste conditions look decent with the recent snow and cold temps

@Minion1980, yes, two excellent picnic rooms, one with a museum of mountain animals for an added bonus. The best one, with the museum, is in the building at the top of the Vallandry gondola. The other is in the building next door to the bottom station of the Marmottes chairlift in Arc 1950. Both get busy during poor weather.

Thank you Rob, I've never been in either building but I know which ones you mean, awesome thank you!

Is there anyone currently in les arcs that can report on the piste conditions? I'm travelling to 1600 next week. I've noticed a thread on "la plagne" is saying all reds not open because of snow coverage!!!! Is this the case in les arcs too? There looks to have been a lot of snow

We had lunch in the Les Coches picnic room today. Nice comfortable facilities.
We’ll check out the Vallandry on over the next few days.

We want to do a day in La Plagne tomorrow. As intermediate piste skiers based in 2000 can someone suggest which areas in La Plagne to go for and how best to get there? Also a nice picnic spot would be great, thanks.

Nice glad it's good. I don't really head to La Plagne much I tend to stay in Les Arcs but good to know.

@viciousvulture, If the reds down the La Roche are now open (Emily & Andre) I suggest heading for Montalbert which will make a grand day out and a nice change from the bleak bowl of Arc 2000.
Plan B would be Champagny via Mont de la Guerre (if open, probably not) or the other fun red les bois I think.
Route finding can be slightly trappy as you ski through Plagne centre but I'm sure you'll work it out. You want to aim for Aime
EDIT - I see on the LP thread that those reds are still shut so scrap the Montalbert suggestion

@red 27, thanks, we’re aiming to do the descent from Roche de Mio to Champagny via les bois. Hopefully all goes well!

@viciousvulture, A superb descent! Enjoy and please report back.
Tight short turns are a good skill to have on the latter section which is narrow and twisting, at good consistent gradient, through outstanding scenery
|
|
|
|
|
|
@viciousvulture, ski Sources from Roche de Mio if you get a chance - it's one of my favourite pistes.
Also enjoy the run down from the top of Arpette, down Pierre Blanches to the VE on the return, that is a great descent.
