Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

All lift access.
Chimgan is 30mins down the road and seems to be undergoing major development. We didn't ride there.

Looks brilliant @hd? Very Happy...Though have I missed what ski area you were actually at?

- How did you find off piste routes?
- Did you use a guide/guides?
- Was it an organised tour once you got there?

A review of the resort at PowderHounds. Says they have gear to hire but it’s quite basic. I can’t ski powder well anyway, if I have to do it with 72mm underfoot I will not make good progress.

@Mike Pow and @mooney058, would love to join and revive my Russian like I did in Georgia, but I struggle to take time off work. Let me know if anything happens!

Edit, links below say maybe there is good stuff available.

Would be very keen, flights look OK. Can also be group’s driver. Would also do 2-3 days in Tashkent before/after the skiing part.

I like Uzbekistan, as a tourist trip with a bit of skiing why not - registan square in the snow is particularly stunning. I'm not sure id get so excited about a tiny resort to fly all the way out there just for skiing though. Especially when you have Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and Kazakhstan all in the region offering far superior skiing.

There's 7 day 1:5 guided ski touring trips in Kyrgyzstan (all meals, transfers, accomodation etc., but not flights) for around €800. Guided cat ski is €120 per person per day. Things are cheap in this part of the world.

@boarder2020 keen to find out more about the (lift served) skiing in the K-stans - any links?

Georgia & Turkey are 1000s of miles away from Uzbekistan Laughing

Agree re current small area vibes but quantity not just quality matters wait until Amirsoy is linked with next door Beldersay snowHead

@hd, I wouldn't really recommend Kazakhstan or kyrgyzstan for lift served. Georgia is the better option.

Although the new lift in Jyrgalan Kyrgyzstan (ala too resort) is just about finished and will open for next season - probably not much smaller than Amirsoy. The plan is to expand and build a huge resort so could be one to look at in future.

There is also a big expansion planned for Shymbulak in Kazakhstan which could also make it a destination resort in future.

If you are open to cat ski rather than lifts Ridder in Kazakhstan is perhaps the best non-touring option in KZ and KG. (Not been personally but talking with others, including guides, seems to be the consensus).

For Kyrgyzstan right now you really need to tour to get the most out of it. But I think that deserted touring experience with great untracked powder is kind of the USP. Also some fun cultural things like horse uplift, backcountry yurts add to the experience.

Edit: of course they are not so close, but if you are flying all the way to central Asia it makes little difference. It's like Colorado and British Columbia are really far apart, but once you decide to fly to n America the distance between the two probably doesn't factor into the decision making which you choose, and both are broadly grouped into the n America discussion.

Just post a few photos without any info and "any questions just ask?" NehNeh

I've written on here enough about kyrgyzstan which is where I'm most familiar with in this region. I'm happy to answer questions, but there's simply not enough interest to bother with a new thread. It's a relatively niche place you have to be into touring and interested in going somewhere off the beaten path.

Besides all these places are hardly unknown anymore. For a real adventure there's a pdf ski guidebook for bamiyan floating around the internet Laughing

We looked at Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan for work. My OH got offered a job in Almaty but there was nothing acceptable for me there at the time. We did a bit of research into skiing there and it looks like there's a lot of investment at the moment to make it a viable alternative to the Alps in coming years seemingly down to reliability of snow.

We decided it would nice to ski if we were local but wouldn't go out of our way to travel there just to ski (yet).

Only disagreement would be re heliskiing - according to Vladimir at Asia Adventures (http://www.asad.uz info@asad.uz) it wasn't available this year and in any case would cost $1k/day per person so not exactly cheap.

On a laptop for the first time today since pic postage so much easier to waffle if required Very Happy
