Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@Roscoe, certainly feel like I have unfinished business, so will have a look and see if March is generally better, wind wise.

I went in March last year and there was only one windy day and that only really impacted you while on the lifts and on the highest ridges. The rest of the time it was blue bird days (apart from a snowy first day). I'm more worried about the weather being too good and ruining the slopes by lunch time.

@Roscoe, that's true. To be fair though, we had very spring like weather in Ste Foy last year (mid/end March) and in was only really the last couple of hundred meters that were chopped up/slush fest late on. Higher up stayed remarkably good.

Did you manage to ski the Fontaine Froide red run down to Ecudets? I didn't get round to it last year but wondering if it was in good condition as it descents to 1,190m.

Sadly not, though it looked like a great option with the high winds, it wasn't open. Checking the app now, it's still not open.

Strange given the amount of snow that it’s still not opening. From a quick YouTube search of the run, it looks like it might be enjoyable in sections.

For sure, especially after it snowed quite a bit after we left, certainly down to well below the 1200 mark. Maybe it needs a good accumulation, so better later in the season?

Yeah might be that. I’ll keep an eye on its daily status to see if/when it’s open. Though going late March/early April, I don’t hold much hope it will be open that late.

@Roscoe, certainly keen to hear how the resort is that late. It could well be that the wind is much kinder to you.

A few more dumps, and I can't think why that red wouldn't be open.

Have never managed to ski Fontaine Froide in the last couple of years of visiting in March (but then the snow has been very poor). It's on the sunny side and loses accumulations very quickly. They do seem to cannon it (at least, piles of artificial evident) but could also be snow farming so people can ski onto Ecudets. The little chalet at the bottom is one of the loveliest places to eat/have a drink in the Alps!

I suppose that's the whole downfall for a south facing mountain in spring. Would be good to visit that chalet and now feels like a something I need to do lol!

This was open over the weekend, assuming due to the epic dump of snow backend of last week. Closed again today but as is much of the resort with the second dump of snow!

Just over 3 weeks to go! This is the last time I book an Easter trip!! Just feels too long to wait! lol

Anyone in La Rosiere with a boots on the ground snow condition report? With all this sunshine and higher than normal temps, I'm assuming ice cream slopes by lunch time?

Most of La Ros is south facing, so not ideal for easter, but much of La Thuile is north facing, so I'd be heading for that side for most of the day if I were you. Added bonus of Italian food / coffee quality and prices.

I was there this time last year (with 5 blue bird days) and the slopes held up ok in the morning but weren't enjoyable after lunch. Popped over to Italy a couple of times but didn't think the conditions were that remarkedly better, though was skiing that in the mornings too, so didn't have the comparison of afternoon vs afternoon in each.

Looks like there will be a nice 40cm+ snowfall over this weekend. If it repeats that next weekend, it will set the Easter trip up perfectly!

Yep, looks like you could be in for a good one.

Looking at Valloire for next Easter, though I really enjoyed La Ros this year, the wind really put me off returning.

We only had one windy day this time last year but I know that it can be susceptible to strong winds.

We're heading across the valley to Les Arc next Feb half term so should benefit from the north facing mountain and going in the heart of winter.

Anyone in La Rosiere know why the Fontaine Froide red piste is closed again today as it was yesterday? Assuming there is plenty of snow down to Ecudets? Plus the Ecudets lift is still running, so assume its only for downloading with the run closed?

The snow goods have answered my prayers! Over 40cm+ coming in over the next two days with further dustings until we arrive on Saturday! Then a blue bird week forecast after a little more snow on Sunday morning. Couldn't have wished for better conditions!

It was due to coverage, the run hadn't been pisted and there were some sun exposed sections which had taken a beating. Did it the day before it closed and there were various stretches of rock and mud dodging. Think it's only 1100m at the bottom, on the sunny side.

Thanks for the update. I was hoping to get down it and to the restaurant at the bottom (been told its pretty good). Maybe the snow over the next few days might open it up again ahead of my first days skiing on Sunday.

Looks possible as snow falling to low levels if the forecast to be believed. They seem to be mainly doing a snack service at the moment (panini etc) but would definitely recommend both the piste and the hut - extremely charming little wooden chalet.

Over in la thuile would also recommend O Punto Gi if you are carnivorous!

Snow was actually very good when we were there last week and was freezing quite hard overnight so not getting as porridge as you might expect. There is also loads of it, especially on north facing slopes where it has held on better. With fresh snow due this weekend you should be well set up for a great week.

I'll give O Punto Gi a look, sounds right up my street!

The run was closed all week last year so I now want to tick of off the list, so hopefully there is enough snow to that level.

Forecast suggests a cold week with it only really picking up in the last few days (Thurs & Fri) so conditions should be great.

Heading out to La Rosière on Saturday. First time visit. Google tells me there is no public swimming pool. Does anyone know if any of the hotels with pools allow non guest (including kids) access for a fee? Just wandering whether it's worth packing swim gear.

That said if current weather forecast holds think we'll be skiing all day. Looks like it could be a lovely spring week after yesterday/today's snow top up.

We head out to La Ros on Sunday for a week. It's the kids first time. We're staying at CM for their first time so it's all very straightforward and easy for them. Maximise tuition for all of us. We're all very excited. But some more than others Very Happy

Tax year is effectively done so can finally relax and enjoy a week without my laptop for a change. Two more sleeps............

I'm sure you can buy day passes at Club Med. However, they are ridiculously expensive IMO. I think I saw 100 euros for adults Shocked no idea if you can just pay for a few hours

Been a great week in La Rosiere. After the snow and white out at the start of the week, followed by 4/5 glorious days of perfect pistes and weather! Skiing done for the week but some final day apres on the cards tonight before a flight home tomorrow. Looking forward to being back across the valley in Les Arc 1800 next year.

We got back Sunday. Had a great time. Still plenty of snow but wasn't much fun in the afternoons. When people are sunbathing by the outdoor pool, you know it's not terribly conducive to skiing! I think it was getting a bit colder again this week but haven't checked again now we're back
