I think ski width is a factor which Carv doesn’t seem to take into account ?
I was a 144 on my narrow slalom skis (volkl racetiger SC , 68 mm wide , 165 cm long) but on my nordica navigator 85 mm , 179 cm I have this week only managed a 134 despite feeling like I am lower to the snow.
Might be worth updating the leaderboard with ski width / length ?

Edged up a couple of points to 135 -carving- yesterday …helped by superb “ego snow” up in VT.

@sheffskibod, don't think Carv cares about ski width, the score is the score, the tools you use to get a score are up to you.

@spacetrucker, not too dissimilar to how CARV would suggest their users are. A bell curve shape, only it dips in the middle, but we have nowhere near enough users to map it out effectively.
Interesting to see it in that format.

Jumped on Carv for a few days this season. I have to say I felt a bit bruised when it had downgraded me from 154 last season to 142 for this! Last season it seemed to rather like precise turns on gentle blues. Not so for the new algorithm which seems to need more of a steep pitch and more dynamic turns. I actually think that is a more accurate assessment of skier level. The problem is the steeper pistes around here seem to be pretty bumpy and ridged, even in the mornings and Carv really doesn't like that! Still been hitting plenty of high 140s and got a best of 151 today. With a bit of luck I might actually find a nicely groomed red or black before the end of my break! Anyhow, do I need to DM KenX to go on the leader board? Cheers all.

Not quite sure if this post should live here but as this group is probably heavily technique focussed it may be of interest.
Myself and another snowhead are attending a piste performance technique camp on April 20th for 5 days (plus some skiing either side) in Cervinia with an Aussie outfit. I skied with them in January and it was excellent and I felt offered something different from other camps I've attended such as pre trip video call analysing video of your skiing, gym prep routines from physio, 5 days of 9-4/5 ski coaching, multiple video captures per day of both drills and skiing in action, daily evening reviews of the skiing vids via take away videos, a biomechanics evening, a ski tune evening and other stuff (3 months of webinars post trip) ... so basically everything you could ask of a camp. We covered carving in the morning, then short turns or moguls depending on the conditions in the afternoon. We were all using Carv because we all loved technique, but it wasn't a Carv camp per se but it was definitely Carv friendly. The coaches were L4 qualified or ex world cup skier.
So, purpose of the post is to say there is one place available we are trying to fill to take the group from 4 of us to the max size of 5. We are skiing out of Cervinia and flying into a mix of Milan, Turin and Geneva arriving from the Friday to the Sunday before the 20th and staying at the Sertorelli hotel. It's also the most expensive camp I've been on so it depends on your desire to really improve on technique, but having done the January camp I think it's worth it.
Our ski levels range from Ski IQ low 140s to high 150s and we're all fit skiers looking for long days on the slopes.
If you are interested then PM me.

@KenX,
Reached 131 today - not bad for an octogenarian with two artificial knees. Been stuck around 125-130 and can’t seem to get any higher.

Nice conditions yesterday and managed to nudge up to 153 carving with quite a few 150 runs. I think to make meaningful improvements now I am going to need a friend or coach with a video camera as I am struggling to make much progress from feel alone. Maybe I will treat myself to some instruction next year!

@KenX,
Last season I had one lucky 137 but that seemed like an anomaly as it was rounded down to 131 with the new algorithm.
On my first trip in Jan to Alpe d'Huez I was consistently hitting low 130s but not really getting any higher.
Just back from a week in Tignes with lovely conditions and managed to make it back up to 137 carving down Double-M in lovely conditions. I had hired a set of Fischer CURV GTX which were absolutely amazing, loved them and think they helped me get my top score back. I used the train feature in the Carv app with a variety of skills and found it really useful. Now returning a score of around 135 most days with that 137 being a high point.
Had hoped to make it to 140 by end of week but got sick instead and spent the last few days meandering around the resort enjoying the scenery.
I am very much low-to-mid pack compared to the others on here but pleased enough. Just hoping any updates to the algorithm don't round down my progress again!

I had my last day on the mountains on Saturday. My top score reached 135 this season, but in the last couple of weeks-in good snow and with great grooming, I seemed able to be quite consistent hitting top 120s and 130+. After a poor early January, this season felt one of the best for a long time in terms or snowfall and temperatures keeping the snow in good condition, so it seemed very odd to "end" my season skiing fresh snow down to 1400m! If @NoMapNoCompass, is low-to-mid pack, then I am low-to-low-to-mid pack!
I know Carv is said to take into account gender and weight, but I do wonder if it's harder for us gals to reach the higher scores because we lack the "grunt" of the chaps -for example-to create the same level of G force (Lindsay Vonn etc excepted!)

So guys, which is your preferred mode while skiing? I'm mostly in just Track, ie Ski:IQ read out after every stop, but have dabbled with the others, mostly Active Coach which I was using today and really helped my turn shape!
|
|
|
|
|
|

@KenX, I'm always in track mode, and a lot of the time don't even have the sound on. I might check on the lift if I think I could have got a good score.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Same - I put it on track, no sound, and will have a look on the lift.
Last day of the season on Sunday pushed my top score +1 to a 149
Hitting lots of 150+ turns on review, just not enough in the same sequence!
150's will have to wait for next season, although I guess the algorithm will get another update?!

Finally managed to regain my Grim Ripper!!!
Been a long slog this season, the new algorithm not really liking my style.....
Found that my best scores were on short turns or tight parallels on a steeper ~28degree slope so concentrated on that, parallel giving higher scores, I think because the bar for edge angle/g-force is lower, my weak points! (57 degrees/1.7g)
It's been a matter of principle, 4 years in a row with Grim Ripper and now in my 70th year

Dunno if this link is viewable to all (It's in the Carv Facebook group). But a classic example I think of someone chasing a high score and achieving a 143 but with some pretty bad skiing and some huge fundamental and basic issues that an instructor would have spotted and fixed!
I really hope they manage to tune the algorithm for cases like this - I suspect high edge angle and a reasonably steep slope allows for the high score.

Hi Brothers & Sisters in Carv,
I'm sure I had an email in the last few days from carv saying there was an "update".
I'm running 9.12.1-9969
Is that upto date? I cant find the email and I can't see anything in the app to update software.

Ha, yes, my best 'powder' scores are actually on piste in afternoon spring conditions, same run was scored for moguls as well.

I should get a good powder score next week in the afternoon at Val Thorens then.
It will almost certainly be a slush fest down to the lift home to Oxalys.

Really struggling to pass the 150 mark, a few individual turns above 150.
Another 147 for moguls this week and a 144 for carving, which isn't too shabby, considering how rough the pistes are and it's on 110mm offpiste skis
