Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Italy - Third Party Insurance Compulsory From January 1st

Has anybody looked into the exact requirements in relation to what you need in order to prove you have the liability cover? As I understand it, you need to have proof with you while you are skiing. I’m wondering how this works with travel insurance that comes with a bank account package, such as nationwide or virgin club M. They don’t issue a policy note as such, because you are just covered if you have the relevant bank account. So how do you prove this to an Italian piste cop?

Nationwide had a policy doc and an Insurance Product Information Document. I can’t think the bank package would be allowed to provide any less documentation than any standalone insurer, and given its just badged with the bank but provided by a normal insurer then they will have all the necessaries.

i do not know while skiing, but before many years als they first implemented tihs, they asked us to prove it in Livigno while buying the skipass.
But i had an Insurance from Austria Ski Federation , and as italy implemented this, i was able to download a document where they made exactly for this . I think it was in Germany and Italian.

Surprisingly, Virgin Money Club M doesn't seem to provide any proof of insurance. I can download the travel insurance policy document, and proof of having an account, and that seems to be as close as I can get.

I also have an email from the underwriters, confirming that the liability cover includes winter sports. This is because it wasn't entirely clear that this is the effect of the policy wording. There is a specific section covering winter sports, but it only mentions cover for things like damage to hired equipment and losses due to slope closures. The section of the policy covering liability to others makes no specific mention of winter sports. At the back of the policy there is a list of sports which it says are covered by the policy, which is presumably intended to imply that any other sports are not covered (although it doesn't explicitly say so). Winter sports are not included in this list, so I started to get worried that maybe the liability (and medical expenses) sections did not apply to winter sports, which would have been a ridiculous position for a policy which is marketed as including winter sports. As I'm a careful sort of chap, I wrote to get confirmation.

If you are coming from outside the EU (Uk, USA etc) you will have travel insureance so you are covered..

I haven't checked yet but I don't think my annual travel insurance covers third party liabilities.

This seems to assume everyone from outside the EU has TI. Not true.

I was stopped, well I was trying to pass someone who had been stopped by a Police guy on skis. He asked for proof of it which I had, Italian guy he had originally stopped didn’t and he put his pass number on a list and said he d be stopped next day at the lifts. In Cervinia.

As an aside, I saw quite a few Carabinieri out on the pistes last week in Passo Tonale. While I didn't see them stopping anyone, they had snowmobiles and ski kit. I'd not seem them so visible on previous trips to the resort.

The lift pass office were also pushing the daily 3rd party and helicopter evac insurance.

I also saw one boarder being told to put a helmet on before getting on a chairlift, by a liftie. He had his helmet attached to his belt but the liftie insisted that he put it on before uploading.
