Is the porta vescovo cable car out of Arabba working this winter following the accident in March last year?

Is there anybody on the ground in the Dollies? What are the piste conditions like, I'm coming on Saturday and just wondering which ski to pack.... 76s for 'perfect' pistes or 92s for porridge?

All quiet on Dolomites front ?
Few more weeks before we are hoping to hit the spring skiing in Dolomites, slight concern is that warmer temperatures might ruin what's left of a decent (season average) base ? All my previous trips were in January and lately it is getting bit thin ... figured why not try Dolomites in late March, great deals on lodging/passes/rentals/lessons ... ?
How are the "blues" of Alta Badia holding up, my spouse and younger daughter are mostly interested in blues but we are staying in Selva ... Plan (de Gralba) might work, with decent snow even Alpe de Suisi would be a nice place for them but if weather turns to warm and wet that might shut down first ...
Older daughter would be happy anywhere as long as there is snow
I will just tag along
For the first time we'll be driving from Venice and finally I was able to get one of those that almost sound mythical rental car rates - €180 luxury SUV from Avis (whatever that means ?). Drove in Italy (winter and summer) before and would not describe it as my favorite experience but it makes sense this time.
Any advice on the best and fastest route with least mountain road twists and turns ? Autostrada to Bolzano/Bozen and on to Val Gardena ? 3-4hrs ?
Thanks all, not a bad season so far, of course it could always be better but still glad to enjoy skiing (and everything that goes with it) in Dolomites.

I'm here now, just sat on Bar Peter after a great day, albeit tiring and it's snowing.
It's our second day after arriving feom Manchester to Venice on Saturday.
Yesterday was warm and the temps were >+5 in the valleys with strong sun. We skied Alta Badia, around Corvara and the Forcelles runs. Corvara village near the boret and boe station was very wet.
Today is much cooler as the sun isn't out. We've did the Ronda clockwise. Early doors great conditions on the north facing slopes over Arabba, by 12 and around Rodella, Gralba and into St Christina... proper mush. The 22 from the top of Boa have been horrendous on both days.... but it's been 3 o'clock ish.
Let's see what tomorrow brings..... I think the sun is forecast to come out.....

Can I ask, we usually go to France in march and it never really seems too slushy, well not like april, Does italy skiing differ so much more in march?

Have been to the Dollies in March for a few years now. Pistes generally really good but can be a bit like wet sugar late afternoons.
Arriving this Saturday - still room on our transfer bus from Venice to Badia.

@polo99, don't think it's italy specifically with slush issues, although the Dolomites is known to be sunny.
Slush depends on how warm it is. That's influenced by altitude, and also slope orientation, so the higher and more north facing the better.
Looks like most of the alps is warm at the moment.

Thank you. Fingers crossed for a cooler time in 2 weeks. Although I will take slushy over icy any day

Stayed high for most of the day over on the Portavescovo side. Some really good conditions after the dusting over night. The sun didn't really make the forecasted appearance yesterday, which was good as the temps were down on the day before.
We went over the Burz for a late lunch as there's not much over on PV. All the runs on Burz and Becs were very chopped (mainly SR runs though)
When the sun did peep though later in the afternoon it was very warm again >+5
So far I'm coming to the same conclusion, that March is not the best anymore for the Dollies.... pre half term for me now.

Heading to Madonna on Saturday and it looks pretty warm.
What skis should I pack ?
Narrow 68 mm race skis or 85 mm all mountains ??
(No room for both)

Another day in Arabba.
Different all together. Went over to Marmolada and then onto Belvedere over the top of Pardoi... Great day all round and the conditions were excellent. There were a few bumps on the way back at 3 from Pardoi but nowhere near as bad as the previous days, in fact the snow was starting to freeze by 4 ish.
For those who are higher intermediate and can cope with the more difficult reds and Blacks the Vescovo and Belvedre are North facing and really good. Alta Badia is struggling though

In addition to my notes above. As usual the Ronda run are the worst, especially south facing, low and in the sun. Get away from the SR and they're all ok

Spent the day in Saiser Alm. Bulletproof slopes first thing, the mostly north facing runs off of Panorama, Lauren and Paradiso held up really well with great conditions in 8 degree sunshine up until we headed back towards Ortisei at 3.30. One south facing slope we had to navigate on the way back was lumpy porridge, but an otherwise great day. The difference in slope conditions according to orientation is stark.

@NJ, @Gaz_H, thanks for the updates. Sounds like some good skiing to be had despite the warms temps. Looks like a slight cool down might be on the cards from Sunday.
Crossing off the hours now till I come out on Saturday.

@slider24, today I decided we ski from Arabba to Selva and do the runs above Plan Gralba. It took us about q.5 hours to get there. The runs over the top of Ciampinoi weren't great
Very busy and awful conditions... so much so that we headed through to Rodello and onto Belvedere again..... over Pardoi and onto Vescovo at about 2.30..3.00
Vescovo runs are the best by a long way. I wasn't impressed with the selva runs at all.
Tomorrow is my last day and we're staying over in PV to Padon.
The area around Burz is becoming very brown... snow is needed... I really hope it cools down.
To summarise..... PortaVescovo and Belvedere are by far the best of the SR areas. I haven't been over to Alba, Hidden Valley or Ortesei

@Gaz_H, cheers gaz. I'm staying in Santa Cristina so will hit those slopes early if conditions not good later. The alpha, bravo and Charlie runs in val g are north facing and shaded I think so hope they stay in good shape.

I just spent a couple of days in the Dolomites - first time and loved it the scenery but as others have said there is an enormous difference between north and south facing slopes. The red down to Alta Badia car park at about 1000m was absolutely great even at the end of the day because it gets no sun. Other exposed pistes even above 2000m were a choppy mess by 11am. I struggle on moguls and they weren’t fun at all! I think I’ll come back in Jan next time

@robinsrule, Very much so. A good example of a plumb south facer is on La Longia. Most of the 10.5km run is either East facing or shaded. There's a sharpish left halfway down which puts you on a steepish south facer right in the sun. If hit at speed it's 'hold on' slush puppy time! Get the tails swinging before those nice formed beauties have you over.

Likewise in the val di fassa -- Alba black is always in good nick ; north facing and tree lined - the Vulcano above Pozza less so... (south and west facing)

Done now and all packed ready for the 6.30 drive down to VCE. Not lot more to report really other than today was the warmest day of the week.
We had another great day over at Portavescovo and on up to Padon. The red down from Padon towards the Arabba side has been awesome this week. We did the black 3 Fodoma as the last run of the hols and it was in great shape at 3pm........ proper good black.
On to next season now.....

Just caught up with today’s downhill from passo san pellegrino. I have never been to the area but from the tele the whole resort looks really nice. They used La volata for the competion, is it really a black run? It looks quite easy but I know the tv shots could be misleading . Also wished Crystal would consider Moena as a new destination, it is a while since they added new Dollies destinations.
