Similar to yesterday's topic - has anyone recent experience of getting through Innsbruck airport on a Sunday?
In particular, we're arriving 1st March at 2.30, and heading over to the Arlberg. There is a train leaving Innsbruck Hbf at 15.47, so what are the chances of making it through (with luggage to collect, but previously EES'ed) *and* getting into town in time to make that - I'm suspecting I have two Hopes, but would love to hear otherwise.
(Worse case, we would then have a two hour wait for the next direct train, or one hour for one to Landeck, and a bus from there - not exactly the end of the world in either case).

@Pejoli, Wouldn't bother with the bus from Landeck if you miss the 15:47, it takes around 45 minutes or so from Landeck to St Anton so you would only save around 30 minutes for a fair amount of messing around. You can get a ticket covering the whole journey on the VVT app should be about €20 per person. Small tip, it is possible just to book seats without buying a ticket, costs €3 I think. So book seats on both the 15:47 & 17:47 and buy the tickets when you get there, that way you will be covered for all eventualities.

Flew through on Sunday a month ago or so. Absolutely fine. Be aware - the skis came on the belt instead of outside. On the way back it was equally as stress free.

If the bus is outside, then its do-able. If no bus, then its going to be tight.
What is wrong with the 16:17 / 16:47 train with 1 change @ landek but both arrive at the same time.
The EES wont make any difference. There is no seperate queue for anyone already completed EES.
You will queue with everyone else. Will still have your photo taken & passport stamped. Just no finger printing.
I would look at the info to see what other flights arrive around your arrival time. That will give you an idea of how many people need to be processed.
I would book the later train if you are not in a rush & want to go direct . Gives you plenty of time + time to grab some food.

Because that 1 change is onto a bus … the mistake I made when I used train line to check the connections.
Seems like best advice is to try and get on the 15.47, or relax and get the later train - seems fine to me

“Just no finger printing”
Not my experience. They fingerprint you at the computer terminal where you answer the questions about how long you’re staying and whether you’ve a return ticket.
Then you go to passport control and use your fingerprints again - I presume to confirm that the questions answered earlier were answered by you?

Friends visiting us currently arrived on Sunday just gone and we're through in pretty quick time. They were hand luggage only though.
I think you'll be cutting it pretty tight to make the bus at 15.47, but not unthinkable.

That won’t matter. I don’t think I’ve ever waited for luggage at Innsbruck, it’s always just been there when I’ve walked into the hall. The bottleneck will most likely be the immigration queue, which looked horrendous at New Year, but they might have got their act together by now.

If you do end up missing the train there are plenty of lockers to put luggage in and the Galway Bay pub is a short walk and a pleasant spot for a beer or two (reputably the best bar in Innsbruck!).

@Pejoli, Ahh didnt realise it was a bus transfer.
I just checked our booking times for our recent trip.
Flew into Innsbruck on a Saturday a few weeks ago.
There was a train leaving in 1hr 15 after our expected arrival time & the next 3hr 15
Not sure if we landed a little early or not!
Took about 45mins from landing to getting through ESS, collecting bags & getting outside.
Public Bus was outside - no wait! So purchased the bus ticket from the machine (you cant pay the driver).
We could have just made the train scheduled 1hr 15mins after our scheduled arrival had we known exactly where we were going & what platform we needed to be on.
I saw the 1hr 15 pull away, so would have had a few mins to spare, but we had already choosen to book the later train, as it aligned with check-in time for our hotel!
If the bus had not been outside, then there would have been no chance in making the eariler train option

Thanks all. Havent been to Innsbruck for two or three years (Mayrhofen trip i think). Whats the setup for getting from the plane to terminal - bus or a walk? (Im assuming not airbridge). Just wondering how much getting seats up front will give me an edge.
And when I get through, where do I go to get the bus to Hbf - is it obvious ? Are taxis a viable/better option if time is tight ?
@munich_irish, Thanks for the all-important tip on the lockers and bar!

Just checked Sunday 15th Arrivals
London flight at 2.30pm (Madrid flight arrival 5mins before, thats it)
Bristol 2pm
LHR 4.25pm
So not like when I arrived & 3 plane load of people departed from outside the EU all arriving within 5 mins of each other.
May cut down the ESS depending on how many are staffing it.

Saturday before New Year, immigration took about 40 minutes (the end of the queue was outside and onto the tarmac) but that was 3 UK flights arriving about the same time. Baggage arrived after a further 10 minutes or so, and the skis were all outside by then.

Brilliant - thanks for that!
It's slowly coming back to me now - i have to buy a ticket for the bus from the machine, don't I (I seem to remember the driver being a bit annoyed I didn't know this).

If you are so inclined you can get the ÖBB app on your phone and buy all tickets and see times etc on the app. I find it makes travel in Austria so easy.

At the end of Jan. there was no delay getting through INN at all. Took about 10-15 mins to get through immigration and our bags were waiting. You can get a bus ticket on the app or at the machine near the bus stop

@Pejoli, Dont buy a seperate ticket for the bus just buy the journey on the app, one ticket covers both bus & train (& second bus if needed). In Germany, Austria & Switzerland (elsewhere too I assume) there are apps which cover all journeys on public transport, no need for buying separate tickets at all. Apps are in English too. https://www.oebb.at/en/tickets-kundenkarten/online-mobile-ticketing/oebb-app . There will be a 5 minute faff to setup a credit / debit card and that's it.

Better and better - I'll get on that.
But do i have to buy a ticket for a specific train - if it's touch-and-go whether we'll make the 15.47, and I miss it for example, will I need to buy another one for the next train (it's only ~E40 for the two of us I know).
Edit: I see on the app I can get a flexible ticket for another Euro - sorted!

@Pejoli, As I said above you can book seats without buying a ticket. Book seats for both trains and then buy the tickets when you know what you are doing. Much easier and more flexible than in the UK! I get an oldies discount so the most I can pay for a one way trip in Tirol (eg St Anton to Kufstein) is €13.40. The tickets are valid for a two hour time slot.

@munich_irish, sorry missed that point - makes perfect sense now.
Bit odd on the OBB app though - when I look at booking flughafen -> St Anton, it says the ticket is only valid for the train portion, ie not the airport bus - am I missing something?
Edit: Also if I try and select Flughafen -> zürs, the buses at either end aren’t covered. same on the VVT app (looks like it uses the OBB interface anyway). On there I can at least get an Innsbruck Einzelticket - would that get me to Hbf without having to use the machine ?
Edit 2: Further playing around - this only seems to happen on Sundays, if I want a ticket any other day of the week, the buses are covered.

A recent arrival through Innsbruck: one aircraft, fingerprints and photos being taken by the border gusrd; enough booths open to allow everyone through within 20 mins or so. The only seperate queue was for EU passports, which had only a handful of people going through in moments. All very efficient and organised. Luggage and skis already on the carousels when we left the border check area.
If you're pushed for time, instead of the F line bus, share a taxi to the station - it's not that far or expensive. If you haven't got yopur tickets for the train, just uses the OBB app and book just before.

Innsbruck seems very hit and miss with the ESS thing. When we arrived at the end of Jan, there was no ESS being done on entry - we were the only flight arriving at that time, sailed through immigration and were in baggage reclaim within minutes of getting off the bus.
On the way OUT of Innsbruck, it was a lottery depending on which queue you were in. There were 3 flights to the UK leaving within a relatively short space of time (so needing to go through the passport gates at the end of the terminal). Some of the immigration people WERE doing ESS and some weren't. So it was pot luck depending on which desk you were queued in front of. We were in a slow queue with ESS being done, and thought we may as well bite the bullet and do it, but it was getting close to gate closing time, so we hopped over to the fast moving queue at the next desk and went through without it.

@Pejoli, I just checked my app and journeys to Zürs are a bit more expensive (it is in Vorarlberg so that means not covered by a Tirol fare) but it does cover everything, no idea why Sunday would be different, I had no issues with the train from St Anton to Kufstein last Sunday.

@munich_irish, thanks for checking - I think there might be some weirdness with the Sunday schedule set up. If I just try to book a bus from flughafen to Hbf for this Sunday 22nd, it’s shows up a 15.13 bus FX (that’s the one the full trip selects) - but as unavailable - but there is a 15.10 F that I can buy.
Not sure how to get round that - so may just have to buy them separately - or just assume it will work (it’s the same price for a later one where the buses do seem to be covered)

@Pejoli, I've just checked your journey on my app, and it looks like the airport bus is different on Sundays – it is bus FX and not operated by VVT, which is why their tickets aren't valid. It's probably a private operator, just franchised on Sundays. The rest of the week, it is VVT bus F and tickets are valid as normal. I'd probably try and pay cash to the driver, unless the airport ticket machine tickets are preferred (check for Sunday validity when you're there).

Thanks @Scarlet, makes sense now.
The other good news is @Gored was right(ish) after all - there is a 16.47 train option too - I didn’t see it because it goes to Langen, but we can get the zürs bus from there just as easily - so only an hours extra wait, rather than two.
Think we can put this one to bed, so thanks very much all. I’ll report back on my transfer experience to close the loop!

Well that was easy!
It helped the flight was early, but from landing at 2.10, we were bussed and through passports in twelve minutes - a quick scan of fingers and face at the booth, and straight through, and i still had to run to grab my luggage before it finished the first loop of the conveyor belt!
The mysterious FX bus turns out to be an express, no stops until hbf. It’s a bit more expensive ar €6.90 than the standard bus, but only takes 10 mins. Theres a qr code on the bus door ypu can use to buy the ticket from the ivb tickets website.
We walked into the station at 14.48, and as luck would have it, the 14.47 to langen was five mins late - so just managed to scramble on.
A pretty good start to the holiday then - flying out of Luton was a breeze, definitely a far, far better experience than our usual LGW/GVA jaunts.
