Roc des Blanchets - good value plat du jour.
Le Sauget - cosy spot with a fire.
Le Forperet - nice grub near Montalbert.
I love an omelette frites, and a pint of 1664 at les inversens. Especially after a day of powder laps over on the runs off the glacier.

Planning first ski hol back to La Plagne, last time I went there was 1990... wonder if it's changed much! Have previously stayed in Belle Plagne and Bellecotte, but this time we're looking at Plagne Centre. Would be interested if anyone has any view on these places to stay ... Hôtel Belambra - Terra Nova and the Odelays apartments le Pelvoux ?
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Stayed in the Terra Nova last winter. It is in a good position and truly ski-in ski-out. Ski-hire shop in the basement if you need it. Rooms getting a bit tired. I thought the food was fine, but others were less satisfied. (Starters, desserts, breakfasts similar every day).
Thanks for the info. It's difficult to know from reviews on Trip Advisor when they are so contrasting. It certainly looks well placed in the resort.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Stayed in Terra Nova a number of years backs and would echo Ecureuil's comments.
Location unparalled for ease of access to slopes, rooms basic but functional, buffet meals again adequate but uninspiring.
When we stayed there we got an excellent price (<£700 per person for a week half board if I recall), obviously prices have gone up since then but having stayed in a couple of these belambra club hotels I'm unsure how enthusiastic I'd be to repeat at the prices I see for them now.
thanks, good point about the price. Although maybe tempting to have HB set up, with the rest on top it becomes too expensive for what it is.

we stayed at this hotel 2 years ago. We travelled with Sunweb and we were half board. the rooms are very basic but fit for purpose, the food was great, usuallly steak every night and breakfast was enough to fill you. It is located in a good place for ski in ski out although it does get bottle necked at the Bergerie lift at peak times (we went 5 March) It was very icy when we were there and conditions werent that great from lack of snow. The bar was a nice place to have a drink, there was a pool table and a big screen and they often had football on.
here is a link from my unlisted holiday vlog which shows the hotel, the food options and the proximity to the slopes if you are interested. This was our second time in La Plagne, the first time we stayed at Club Med in Aime La Plagne (which is where the fireworks are in the video).
@bornio, we stayed in the Terra Nova a couple of years ago. I think the was it's first year as a Belambra, so reviews of the service offering before then probably aren't relevant.
It's in a great location. While Bergerie can get busy, you've got the alternative option of dropping down into 1800 and up from there.
Our room was good, with a beautiful view across the valley and the mountains.
The buffet breakfast was fine, but more plagued that other HB hotels I've stayed in by people taking large amounts of baguette to make their lunches, so often leaving none for people having their breakfast. (Why do people think it's acceptable to take food out of a buffet for another meal?!)
Of the Belambras I've stayed in, it was probably my least favourite in terms of the dinners. Possibly due to the layout, the main course wasn't buffet service and you had to order from a server. As others have mentioned, the choices were quite samey and repeated more than once during a week's stay. There was still a salad bar and cold meats etc as in other Belambras. And, as usual in Belambras, there was red and white wine on tap, although getting that could be a challenge as they seemed to be very short of carafes.
Overall, for the price and location I thought it was good value but would choose the (considerably cheaper) Aguie Rouge in Arc 2000 over it if given the choice (possibly even if they came in at the same price).

Thanks for the video link, that's brilliant. Looks pretty good to be fair, location, food and drink and rooms look fine to me . Given me a bit of food for thought !

Newsflash!!!! Both mont de la guerre and le bois runs down into Champagny were officially open today for the first time this season. Le bois was open last week and it was the first time I have seen the green light on the MdlG piste on the map at the top of Champagny gondola. Avalanche risk level is down to 2 for the first time in weeks so could well explain it.
Looks like it could be another quiet week as there was still a lot of accommodation available for this coming week in Champagny which is usually a good sign. It is only Zone C on holiday in France this week, so Paris, Toulouse and Montpelier areas. People we know from the Herault region are going to the Pyrenees this season so hopefully more space up here for us regulars.
Hardly anybody out on the slopes today, a massive difference to last weekend.

Thanks @skichampcouk! I'm wondering, how is snow across the resort holding up after the sunshine of the past week?
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Well noticed @skichampcouk.
Let's hope they are both still open next week . . .
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Brilliant! (not). According to YUGE today: Les Bois is open, but Mont de la guerre is not
However, YUGE is not always reliable.
Back in early February we noticed Mont de la guere listed on YUGE as open, but when we got there it had a barrier across the entry "road" and a sign stating "Avalanche Risk".
We did see a number of skiers whizzing past the sign, but we played safe and sadly turned away.
You know it makes sense.

@Jonpim, the sun has been so bright this weekend in Edinburgh it’s been almost blinding Never seen so many French in one place outside of France. Still smiling most of them too. Great weekend.

Coming to La Plagne on the 15th
Any recommendations for mountain restaurants that sell baguettes - I’m not one for a full meal or even a burger at lunchtime but getting a bit long in the tooth for picnics on the slope

@ScaredySki, Depends where you are staying, I assume you mean filled baguettes rather than just a bread stick...
Buy baguettes in the indoor shopping mall in Plagne Centre and eat out on the piste or one of the picnic rooms.
Most of the villages have a Spar shop or similar selling filled baguettes

Hi - I was meaning a Jambon et Fromage baguette, some mountain restaurants have a "snack" bar as well as a restaurant so I was just wondering if anyone knows which ones in La Plagne.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@ScaredySki, Croq Neige in Plagne Centre sell baguettes and Paninis with various fillings.
We used to eat our baguettes from the sandwich shop / bar in the Plagne centre shopping mall sat on the benches near to the telemetro entrance.
Roc des Blanchets on the Champagny side also has a snack bar. They have numerous deck chairs outside where you can eat your lunch, ideal for a sunny day.
Nice bit of snow coverage imminent this weekend.
Hoping these cold temperature stick around for the start of Easter week, don't mind having to wrap up rather than sweating like a hog

Has anyone here skied at all in Pralagnon, and if so would you recommend it just for a day (specifically next week)?
It looks fairly small but that might be ideal for one day and the bus from Champagny isn't long.

Heading to La Plagne (1800) from 21st for a week, flying solo at the moment if anyone fancies a slide about or a beer give me a shout!

Ruswit, Pralognan-la-Vanoise is definitely fun for a day.
Different from La Plagne. Tight little village - a bit like Champagny.
Decent mountain restaurant. Long quiet runs. Can be rather windy.

How late do the links from Champagny over to Plagne Centre and Bellecote stay open towards the end of the season? I’ve stopped in Belle Plagne a number of times now but considering a late season long weekend basing myself in Champigny 17-21 April, but obviously if the links are closed or there’s now way of getting back to download to the village it would be a waste of a weekend.

@bigtuboflard, last day Champagny is open in Saturday 18th.
Ruswit, don't know about lockers.
Suggest you contact the Tourist Office.

@Jonpim, Yeah I've already contacted them, and apparently there are none which is a shame. I'll see if any of the ski rental shops will do us a favour.

Ruswit, hope you manage to sort something out.
Meantime it started snowing this morning around 7am, and its been snowing steadily ever since.
Trees are all white, but the roads have stayed clear. Until now. With the temperature dropping roads also turning white.
Anyone coming up later this evening will probably be fine on the main road, but will need care on the side roads, and around 1800.

Sounds good - heading up tomorrow, hope we don’t need the chains (we have all weather tyres so fingers crossed)
Looks like a nice top-up of snow going your way the webcams. Did much settles in the lower parts like Montchavin?
Less than two weeks to go until we're there. Very much looking forward to it
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Specialman, the snow did get down to Montalbert and Montchavin.
We've skied down to both yesterday and today.
In fact yesterday there were more runs open that i can recall all season. Even Rochu and Bellecote (off Glacier 3000), Le Bois (red down to Champagny) and all the blacks from the ridge fed by the Becoin chair. Only Mont de la Guerre was shut.
But the weather is warming up.
Today both Bellecote and Les Bois are shut (not surprised at all about Les Bois: the bottom third was all about dodging the muddy bits yesterday).
We tried Palsembleu today (lowest of the blacks off the Becoin ridge. Can't say we really skied it, but we survived. Won't be trying again until the savage moguls have been reduced a bit.
But all the runs down to La Roche were a delight - Edmond Blanchoz included.
Sun and clouds for the rest of the week. The snow forecast for Saturday has disappeared.
@Jonpim, the blacks off Becoin interest me (or rather, they interest my 16yo who want to drag me down them) and the ones downunbder Roche are some that I can't recall skiing on previous visits. Maybe I did, it was 2007 last time I was in La Plagne. Definitely looking forwar to Champagne side, even if we don't get all the way down to the village - I can recall runs being really good fun that side, and less busy.
The kids are eying up the Rider's Nation park; it looks pretty amazing up there, so many features and so much space

Skied down to Les Cloches today - snow all ok except the last 200m - thick sugary like snow dome snow. The slope back to La Plagne at 3pm from top of Bijolin to Salles was horrible - heavy snow and lots of moguls not to mention being human soup - I struggled especially trying to turn with “experts” flying past me - shame cos it was lovely over there but don’t fancy repeating that - I got down, but it wasn’t pretty

My one fear about us going later this month is the amount of bodies on the slopes - sound like even on an 'off peak' week it's still busy, or is it just key areas that are vital to link people back to the main accomodation areas.?
