Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Japan 25/26

Was it in Japan a few years ago there were trucks driving through canyons cut through the snow? Like 8m deep or more? Some unbelievable pics.

You might be thinking of this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tateyama_Kurobe_Alpine_Route

It's famous for the snow corridor that's cut through certain sections of the route.

A lot of people seem to do well in lift accessed areas though, so possibly I've just been badly timed...

I think it depends on your definition of “well”. Easily accessed lift served lines get tracked out quickly in all the Japanese resorts I’ve visited as there are so many good young snowboarders, and Niseko is the worst as it’s also rammed full of tourists. And even if it snows 20 or 30cm overnight it’s so light that the next day you are going through to the old tracked out base again.

On the other hand, so few people are touring that even a couple of days after snow, especially in the sheltered forests protected from the wind, you can ski deep untracked lines all day. And a 20cm top up on a lightly skied base fills it up so the next day is bottomless again. Of course you need to put in the effort to make the skin track and you’re talking 3 to 5 300m laps rather than lots of lift served laps, but if you’re more into quality than quantity this is the best way to really experience the legendary Japow.

Sunshine today. Forecasted snow for tonight into Friday. Finally saw Mt. Yotei after 6 days here in Niseko.

Everyone was hiking today.

Beautiful in central Hokkaido today too (that's Furano resort in the background)

I took this from the top of Tokachi-dake at 2077m, almost double the altitude of the top lifts at Furano!

First day in 18 days that I haven’t been ripping around in freshies, and instead spent the whole day lapping perfect cord with nobody around under a blue sky - northern Hokkaido delivered today.

It's worth noting for Furano that anyone can sign up to the Seibu Prince Global Rewards app for free, it takes 5 minutes. Then you can get a discount on a day pass at Furano for 6600 Yen instead of 8000 Yen.

Most people seem to be unaware of this and the staff are happily charging people 8000 Yen * x number of days.

It also means the hotel lift pass discount is redundant as it's a smaller discount.

Left Niseko on Friday morning while it was dumping out. I tried not to think about it.

12 hours later and made it to Nozawa Onsen where it was snowing as well pulled up to our lodging.

A light bit of snow overnight and left the trees looking frosted.

Had some fun poking around in the trees. There's a bit of a crust underneath the new fallen snow. Hopefully the storm coming in Sunday morning will start to cover that layer up.
