Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Transfer to les saisies

I have been pricing a private transfer from Geneva to les saisies on 8 March to 15 March and best I can find is about £450. Wondering if anyone can advise on the going rate please?

Sorry I should have said. That is for 2 people. Total price is £450

You could get a bus to Megeve then a shorter taxi drive. If that's each way £225 for the two of you, that's probably as good as it gets. It's a 3 hour round trip for a Geneva based taxi. Where are you staying? It's possible that a rental car would be useful. Good week to go!

we priced the transfers with jamtransfer.com and the place we are looking at is le sherpa https://www.booking.com/Share-89nmCqN
Some report it is 200m from the slope but it looks right next to the chernavelle blue run, although I dont know if you would be able to exit the slope at where that parking bit is or if you would have to ski through the tunnel down to the bottom of the slope. not sure how much of a hike it would be back to the apartment if you couldnt just exit off side of the chernavelle piste. i am also not sure how far it would be to join the run either.

we have also been looking at Italy. I really love Les Saisies as it fits my cruisy blue "pootling" about from side to side with nothing too crazy but really want to try Italy as we havent been, but I am not sure about the snow there at the minute.

@polo99, I think the only direct shared transfers to Les Saisies are from Lyon airport on a Saturday.

@polo99, I think you'd have to go to the bottom of the Chenavelle piste then use the tunnel which is the only way for a skier to get (skis on) from the Chenavelle to the Route de la Traie). Because there's a road in between, of course.

Going out in the morning I think you'd generally walk down (carrying skis) to the bottom of the Carrets lift and either up that lift or down to the bottom of the Legette.

But I'm out of touch with the details! @rjs might have much better info.

The only time we went to Les Saisies without taking our own car we took the train to Annecy and hired a car from Europcar there. I expect it would be cheapest for you to hire a car.

@Origen, I just looked up the bus timetable when there was a thread a while ago about someone doing a few days in Beaufort then a week in Les Saisies.

Suffice to say getting to and from the slopes from that Chalet should not be a problem for averagely fit skiers! But it's a bit out on a limb from the centre, for apres ski activities. There are busses - and they come and go via the big bus place down by Les Carrets.

thanks for the replies everyone. just shows you that what looks like on Google maps isnt always the case. Hubby wont drive unfortunately. I think we are still going to hold out and go for a last minute based on the snow, but I know I am risking it with availability. Is there a good site you can book apartments? I have just been looking at booking.com or looking on google. the place we stayed at last time in Les Saisies doesnt appear to be there anymore or has turned into residential (Village des lapons). Wouldnt mind staying in Crest Voland too as have stayed there before. Would Flumet be too low to ski back down to first week of March?

 You know it makes sense.
You know it makes sense.
Flumet can be too low for enjoyable ski conditions at any time in the season, alas. A whole section of the resort has been abandoned for good as of this winter, and the resort is really out on a limb of the Espace Diamant skiing area. Last but not least, there's nothing at the lift base, and there's a lot of traffic in the nearby town.

This Chalet le Sherpa that you found really doesn't look that far from the center of Les Saisies, anyway.

thank you. My main concern isn't how far it is out from the Centre, I agree it doesnt "look" that far lol. The main concern is that we are going to have to walk back uphill with ski boots on carrying our skis. Can we exit from the bottom of the Chernavelle blue run where the red arrow is then walk along the yellow highlight to the apartment (and vice versa to join in the morning)?

No, I don't think that would work. To get up the bank beside the main road and join the piste part way up (or go down at the end of the day) would be an adventurous scramble for a couple of teenagers in July. And steep. Impossible in the snow for a family in boots and carrying skis, I'd say.

Your route into, and home from, the ski area would be via Les Carrets, from where lifts take you in either direction (using the new tunnel under the road between them). There's no great difference in altitude between the Route de la Traie and the Les Carrets car park. It's not a steep walk. Loads of people use various cut throughs - after big snow it's more difficult till the paths have been trampled again.

For Village des Lapons see https://www.lagrange-holidays.co.uk/holidays-rental-sea-mountain,accommodation-alps-savoie,les-saisies-hauteluce-SAISIE-L-LAPO-residence.html

That's probably a better location. Yes, forget Flumet.

The best bet for accommodation is the Les Saisies website. But that week is the first after the French school hols and very popular for that reason (best week of the season, you've chosen well). Good accommodation won't be cheap.

Ah thats it! thank you Pam! My memory is a little rusty as it was a long time ago since we were there but it is good to know that it is available the week we are thinking. We havent booked flights yet, as we are still toying with the idea of Italy although it is coming out a lot more expensive as you can imagine. Hubby wanted to go somewhere we havent been (even though he doesnt recognise one piste from the next!). going to hold tight for 2 more weeks and see what happens with the snow and the forecast. we are thinking about Corvara or at a last resort, Les Arcs (we have been to La Plagne twice but never made it across the mountain to Les Arcs). I just love Les Saisies because it is soooo good for cruising and gaining confidence which was totally wiped out on our last holiday to La Plagne! thank you for confirming about the shortcut on the map, I dont think that apartment would be a good shout. IT is funny you mention that week being the first after the school holidays. we went this time last year to La Plagne and it was super super busy. I wonder if it would be worth waiting until the week after? (14th)

Actually, yes, the following week might well be better from the point of view of busyness. I noticed when I looked at the Les Saisies website that they do have a "Sunday to Sunday" option, as well as Sat/Sat. Goodness knows how many apartments would come up if you put that in, but it might be worth having a go.

I don't see that Italy need be a lot more expensive. Would recommend Pila, very easily accessible from Turin, where flights will often be cheaper than Gva. Driving from Turin airport to Aosta (from where there is a gondola up to Pila) is very easy. Motorway, down in valley, exceedingly unlikely to be any snow. And rental car from Turin is cheap. There are lots of posts about Pila on Snowheads.

Generally, I suspect that La Plagne is likely to be busier than Saisies, whatever week you choose. Saisies isn't bad outside the French school holidays.

Thank you, we have narrowed down 2 holidays. One to les saisies and one to Corvara (w/c 14th). flying from Newcastle so flights limited. ITaly works out about £500 more (although we are looking at half board hotel there and with Les Saisies it would be self catering so if you add on what you would spend on meals then its probably the same. Just convincing hubby that a shared transfer will be ok. we are a bit traumatised following a holiday with Crystal where we got a shared transfer and by the time they picked us up, they had to put all our luggage in the toilet! I think at the minute the snow is pretty similar in both these areas so I think we should be ok whatever we chose. I did look at pila but there doesnt seem to be many blue runs. This holiday is about building my self confidence and deleting the video on my phone of me crying on the last day saying how much I hated it. I did the blues while the instructor took the group down the blue because I ended up so scared (after 20 years of skiing!). I have since lost nearly 6 stone so feel much fitter. I am challenging myself to at least go on a red run as if we go to Corvara I really want to do that run that goes to Armentolla and get the carriage pull back to town.

@polo99, I don't think you'll find shared transfers to Les Saisies. Probably a straightforward taxi. Corvara has lots of nice blue runs but some hotels are not that close to lifts. The scenery is lovely.

Snow conditions now are pretty irrelevant, to be honest.
