@adithorp, @tangowaggon, this is all reminiscent of the early days of disc brakes on road bikes, when manufactures held differing opinions and some people, even a few on here, were quite disparaging about them, and ten years on, look where we are now
And in the last few days, I've had discussions, with some senior people from both brands who hold different views, Salomon new boot is pretty Boa centric, though that is not the main development story, whilst Tecnica said something to me, that later had me jesting with them, in that I asked would their marketing slogan incorporate "Boas are for pussies".
Anyway not going to divulge everything as I'm nose to the grindstone editing and writing it all up, plus I'm seeing my physio this afternoon and have asked her for her take on a couple of things, like why no knee pains with one boot?

@Weathercam, I think the Salomon is a 98 last? Decoy is 99 last. I get on with Tecnica boots but never did with Salomon. Interested in your comparison on fit. I would bet the Decoy is a killer freeride boot at 1700g with all the Zero-G tech. Zero-G Tour Pro at 1300g is already a great boot and mine are still going strong after 5 years and lots of abuse.
Re Black Crows, I heard they are in big financial trouble

Seen this mentioned before on newschoolers, reddit etc plus some key people left last year.

The reality is that I'm probably nowhere near a good enough skier to notice any improvement i ski boot technology

I could be wrong because I haven't tried any, but using bike analogies, I view boa akin to making both brakes operate off one lever to save the weight of a brake lever.

@BobinCH, tell you the truth I was getting so much info thrown at me I was getting slightly bewildered, which I said as much to the International Dude who was explaining all to me, in that there will be different boots for different markets basically.
I have his email and did explain when I came to write it up I'll send him some questions and first draft in case I've messed up.
Both boots had my massive ankle bones screaming by the end of the session, and with the Tecnica's I didn't use my orthotics, thinking that might help my ankles, but that strategy didn't work. I usually have to blow out the size of half a tennis ball, which might prove difficult with the Salomon, maybe due to the shell construction design?
And one question I did ask was why no Boa then?

@tangowaggon, Agree and this is presumably still the current mantra . . . . .however I've been using front BOA since last season and there is a difference, in terms of 'in boot' foot and heel retention (for me at any rate) as the shell closes like a clamshell over the entire forefoot and lower ankle without being uncomfortable (as can occur when cranking up front buckles - hence we don't do it) . . . . . .on this basis would still like to 'feel' the difference with the upper BOA addition . . .

Probably because that boot had some lateral canting built-in to it that (better) suited your alignment etc.

Assuming that you mean the SPro Alpha, Salomon say that the clog buckles greatly reduce/stop and longitudinal separation of the clog when the boot is flexed, compared to having a Boa closure on the clog.

I must confess (other than that I didn't read your title closely enough) that boot reviews are rather moot. I ski the boots that my fitter puts me in ...

@gixxerniknik, I was using Boa's in my snowboard boots back in the 80's before I switched back to skis.
Boa's have also been pretty commonplace on all my cycling shoes in the same period as well.
Though for sure not as exposed as Boas on ski boots, but they are far more substantial.
There's a market for them, but maybe not in ultimate performance "juste réservé aux loisirs"
Personally I would like them on my Rando boots if only for transitions, but as yet don't think they're at the top cuff yet?

 You know it makes sense.

@gixxerniknik, hence they have a lifetime warranty on the Boa element as they don't think they will break!

@Weathercam, so two veery different boots designed for different markets so why compare them??
the salomon is very much an alpine ski boot designed purely for alpine skiing, the tecnica is opening up that back country touring element......
as for stretching the salomon on the medial ankle its even easier than on any other boot as there is no pivot there to get in the way
